How do you afford gaming?

I've noticed that some people here seem to have endless time for gaming, and have amazing HD TVs and every game and console they want!
I ask... how?

I'll be going to uni next month, and it's just occured to me that I probably won't be able to afford any games for 3 years. Thank God I already have a PS3. I'll just live off free demos, and games at Xmas :lol

I just don't buy anything else. And when I was at uni I took out the full student loan even though I was living at home. I may be £9k in the hole but at least I had games :D

Same here but I live away from home at Uni. Same shit anyway, buying games using the loan. Yeh I'm putting myself in debt, but what student isn't? I'm too young to care :lol .

At uni I did a ton of gaming, good housemates with similar interests, shared system/s & games and student loans = fun fun fun

As for now, a job with good pay and better working hours :D

I don't buy that many games, and I still have a slight backlog from last year. Also, I buy budget/GH when I like a game but not enough to sell myself for it.

I got in debt for buying a Neo Geo.

I sold my TV to pay off my debt.

Whenever I get a new TV I'll be able to play my Neo Geo.

Such is life.

i blew hobos in back alleys so i could preorder halo 3: legendary edition

and i havent even got a 360 yet

the struggle continues

Seriously though, this thing called "jobs"

Actually, GameFly is a great alternative for people in this situation.

Otherwise, you do it the normal way: parents, gfs, wives, family, jobs, etc.

Employment, holidays, and the fact that it's really my only true hobby. I just don't spend money on other things beyond food and utilities.

I honeslty cut pretty much anywhere else. I'm not buying sports equipment, only a minimum of clothes and i'm not going out much.
Everything is always just a question of priorities. I also don't watch TV (then saving a bill.) I'm not buying/renting movies nor looking at them at the cinema. I chose to follow the gaming and music industry instead.

Pretty much using my money for personal entertainment solely on gaming related things. I don't use it much on anything else (eating out, drinking out, cell phones, etc.)

Basically, if you get a job and put in the hours, and are smart with how you spend and save, you can afford pretty much anything you want. There's no magic. For some reason, people around here don't understand simple concepts like that.

I work 40 hours a week at my permanent job and will take up second jobs a couple times a year for an additional 10-15 hours per week. But I do tell my employers that I cannot work Sundays because of "religious" reasons so I've almost always had that day free.

I tend to limit my purchases to the must-owns and the over hyped. The over-hyped usually turn out to be trade in fodder for the next must own. Rinse, repeat.

Work. Between the PS3, Wii, DSL, HDTV, and about 15 new release titles, I've probably spent upwards of five grand on gaming so far this year though that certainly doesn't make me unique here.

I've also taken to trade-ins, more so to just get rid of clutter than anything else, but they really barely make a dent.

I have a full time job that pays a good amount of money.

But I don't have time for gaming, especially with a wife and all.

That's probably why I mostly play old 8 and 16 bit games in short bursts on my Wii.

I pira- JUST KIDDING. :P

Surprised no one came in here to get banned and said that though. :lol

I actually tend to be a generation behind, so it's very affordable for me to buy games.

This Christmas is going to hurt though. Badly.

Living with parents, got a job. Part-time, well payed for my standards and age. Took a full student loan for my college this September (have some extra cash there, yeah, I will get myself into debt but whatever) so I have the money.

Yay!

I am too, just a general question but what is the consensus on multiplatform say I went out and BOUGHT say Bioshock LE for the 360, so the developers got there due, but I also wanna PERSONALLY experience it on say the PC,does the line blur?

Work for a living? And don't take off for work for an anticipated game, like some people in this thread.

I make $28 bucks an hour working in a supervisory position in one of the warehouses at Tobyhanna Army Depot, so that's how I afford my shit. Although with all my bills and my girlfriend, it never seems like enough!
