How does a Power Rangers movie sound?

I don't know why goofy and dark/gritty are suddenly mutually exclusive. They COULD do something like a super robot version of TMNT, for instance (although I doubt they'd ever go quite that dark).

Also, a reboot could be good without going dark at all. I'm thinking along the lines of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann or the Wachowski's Speed Racer.

What do all of these things have in common? Fun. Power Rangers can be a lot of things, but it needs fun.

Also, I'd love one of those hoodies minus the bracer designs.

Just want to pop in this thread to say that original Green Power ranger is still the best ranger, with original white following him and lightspeed rescue red in third.

No. Fuck Tommy.

First, he upstaged Jason by becoming the broken N+1 (green) ranger in Mighty Morphin. Then he does it again when he becomes the broken N+1 (white) ranger. Then when Jason comes back as the broken N+1 (gold) ranger, and it's Jason's time to shine? Tommy still hogs the spotlight and stays as team leader.

Finally, Dino Thunder. I was ready to forgive him when he started out the series by taking on the Zordon role for a new group of rangers. I thought that was pretty cool: an old veteran helping the new generation. But then Tommy fucking became the broken N+1 (black) ranger again!

Seriously, the dude does not know how to share the spotlight. So fuck him and his awesome dragon zord, his talking tiger sword, and his PhD. in paleontology! Grumble, grumble...

Honestly with the success of the Transformer movies I'm surprised they haven't made a big budget, more serious Power Rangers movies like they did with Transformers. Maybe it a few more years.

Man, ain't nobody trying to rep Jason. Dude is weaksauce, through and through.

"bu bu but he fought goldar with no morpher"

No, he ran away for 2 episodes and 10 commercial breaks until he got a break and had TOMMY distract Goldar so he could escape.

Tommy swag > Jason lameness.

Jason beat Tommy in the REAL fight. The first time Tommy just took them by surprise.

But Tommy is awesome too, remember when he fought Lord Zedd? Oh and Tommy's Red Battle Zeozord > Dragonzord.

But, Rocky is the best Ranger. He was also smart enough to BAIL THE FUCK OUT when Turbo started.

Dino Thunder's the only season where I actually kinda like him. He doesn't really take too much attention from the core team and works well in the mentor/support Ranger role.

Edit: Tommy get's swag points for fighting Lord Zedd though.

Dragon zord is best zord. Tommy himself is alright, I liked him until I learned about the whole behind the scenes incident. That kind of soured things.

Make a very evil Lord Zedd...no restrictions.

david yost and jason david frank appeared in a panel together a year or two ago. yost seemed to be relatively okay. jason david frank looked embarrassed when yost would bring up some of the stuff frank did.

Because most people stopped watching the show after that, so it's all they know.

Pretty much this, after the first season of Power rangers the only ones I remember watching were Wild Force, a bit of Time Force, SPD, and Dino Thunder.

Do you have a link to this?

I saw it until Lost Galaxy.

I have memories of some of the series between Wild Force and MMPR, but it was a long time ago. I remember though that I watched Dino Thunder because of Tommy and SPD just because it had been so long since I had watched a Power Rangers show. I stopped there but I also remember seeing a commercial for the magic one where everybody had accents and it was terrible.

EDIT: I don't remember the order of the series but it felt like forever since Power Rangers aired when SPD came around. I don't know why.

Fake edit: Searched it up and SPD came right after Dino Thunder. Didn't completely finish Dino thunder so it's probably why it felt like it had been a while since I saw power rangers. I was also mad that there was no green ranger, all the series without a green ranger are automatically get negative points.

I watched all of MMPR when it came back to Netflix and the later portion (When Tommy is White Ranger, the three new Rangers appear, and Zedd is there) are much better. The Zedd portion has more arcs, where as S1 is just mostly monster of the week.

Best thing about Dino Thunder is the yellow ranger.

The actress was also in Hellcats, the show about cheerleaders and that's all I remember about it. That and the fact that it was cancelled :(.

I remember Zed, I think he used to scare me as a child he looks creepy as fuck for a children's show.

I feel like with Hollywood's love of taking old children's things and giving them big budget, "mature" adaptions (Transformers, GI Joe, etc), it's going to happen soon with Power Rangers.

Also, Michael Cera will be the red ranger.

In terms of MMPR, I like each subsequent season less. Bigger stories doesn't really mean much with the level of writing in the show, and there's a marked decline in the quality of the action when they stop using Japanese footage (or, in the case of the Zord fights for the first half of season two, start stitching it together from two different source materials).

Because it stopped being good after the original. :(

or maybe I just grew up

MMPR was pretty bad, though. Later series improved upon the show a lot (it had ups and downs though).

That's not even talking about the source material, which is all kinds of awesome.

Then again, I didn't grow up with Power Rangers, so it may be harder for one who did to get used to the idea that Power Rangers doesn't only mean Dinosaurs and a big floating head.

A Power Rangers reboot would have been best when RPM ended, and Bandai started selling those MMPR-redux toys. There was no show airing, and Bandai was banking on MMPR nostalgia.

But now that the series was already rebooted (and made popular again), Saban may be less inclined to go the big-budget movie route when it's cheaper to just continue on with what he has.

Pretty much. RPM was set in a post-apocalyptic world where people had to live in a dome. You can't exactly go back now that the Samurai rangers met one of the RPM rangers. You would also recant the Ninja Storm and Dino Thunder since Tommy was a Dino Thunder ranger. Not to mention the awesome Ninja Storm vs. Dino Thunder battle.

While I have fond memories of the older seasons (pretty much the first all the way up to In Space, where I think I did end up outgrowing the series), they are laughably bad. Bogus plots, shoddy acting, the works. It gets outright hilarious at times.

But the only seasons I can actually call "good" not merely in a nostalgic sense are probably Time Force, SPD, and surprisingly RPM.

Wanna know what happened to Tommy?
He went into MMA and apparently EVERY tattoo parlor he ever found.

His debut in 2010

From what I've seen hes fast (duh...has been since his muay thai days), but he has the worst defense versus takedowns I've ever seen. Everyone plants him including the boxing blob from his debut. Also that left arm tat of Jesus Didn't Tap. My childhood is reeling here.
