How does PS4 video capture work, it seems to be delayed?

Point is, had a bomb-ass Killzone streak that was absolutely GOD tier, hit share immediately after I died, looked for the clip, nothing. Plus the sharing menu is really damn slow for whatever reason in the middle of a match, so its not like I wanna screw around in there and lose.

I have no edit functions at all. All I see is "log into Facebook", which I won't do. I just want to view the video, chop out 10 seconds, and keep that. Is that not possible? I don't want to send video across the internet.

Yes. As soon as you hit share, it stores the footage on your system. You don't have to do anything with it just then, and you can have as much as your hard drive can hold.

Oh so every time you hit share it saves the 15 minutes that has elapsed? Is that why some people have a lot of videos on their HDD?

Do they get deleted after a while?

You can just go in manually and delete it. If you trim it, it'll separate the trim from the original, and you can just get rid of the original.

Right it worked cause the second you start the game it starts to record so the first 15 minutes of play is for sure going to be there, So that was your first clip.

You hit the share button meaning it will automatically start a new 15 minute clip, so that was your second video.

If you had started the game and never hit share until say an hour in your PS4 would have a random 15 minute clip.

Are you sure about that? That sounds wrong

Yeah, the same problem happened to me. I had an awesome crash in Need For Speed and right after it happened, I hit the Share Button. Unfortunately, the crash wasn't captured. It was video from quite a long time before that, and that 15 minutes of video ended well before the crash occurred in the game. Bummed out as I really wanted to show some friends the insane stuff that happened. I hope they fix it soon.

Hit a game winning shot in NBA2K14 against my buddy. Wanted to talk trash by posting it on Facebook for all our buddies to see. Could not find clip to share. Sadness.

Hit SHARE > Go to clip > Go to END of clip > Work your way BACK > Trim off excess footage > DONE.

The console records the last 15 minutes, which means you need to go to the end to find your most recent footage, not that difficult.

I think i may have found a fix. Do you guys have A LOT of vids in your share folder? I had near 6GBs! Deleted them all and it's been fine ever since.

Nice! You seem to be the only one figuring some of these mysteries. If this is indeed the case for others, kudos to you, sir! :)

Hmm... I can't seem to replicate this bug. I tried several times with multiple games and I always get the full 15 minutes (or at least within a few seconds) leading right up to when I hit the button.

Hopefully they can get it sorted for everyone in the first post-launch patch.

Tried it a few more times tonight and it never worked once. Clips it produced were over 30 minutes old in all cases, sometimes over an hour old. 2/3 people in my regular group have it not working, while one claims it works.

It's pretty weird. It's like it bugs out and "forgets" to keep recording when it's in its little 15 minute recording cycle.

Double tap the share button before each match and you'll be sure to get it.
Not necessarily true. For me doing this will record the first 15 minutes then stop. So if the match is longer than 15 minutes he could be screwed still.

Based on some things after re-reading the thread, I might check and see in the morning if it has anything to do with going to the dash after the game has started. The system doesn't let you record at the PDM. Maybe when you go back into the game it gets confused. It must be either that or a more generic bug where it just stops recording.

Right, but since the 15 minute limit is always there no matter if you start the recording, or depend on the "previous 15 minute" feature, the best option for MP matches is to start recording right at the start of the match, that way you know it will work, and if the match goes long you can stop the recording and restart it during a down moment.

Yeah the best thing to do is test everything, try to narrow the problem down to a specific action causing the recording to malfunction or a random bug.

Yes, if you do it manually it technically should work for now. Basically I was saying it it will be a PITA. Anyways, I'll check later to see if anyone finds the culprit before I do. Probably will be a while until I get around to it in a conclusive way.

What exactly are you doing. The way to test this is to start a new game And DO NOT hit share or go into the PSN menu. Leave it for say 25 minutes and hit share, your last few minutes won't be recorded.

Hmmm .. that is what the Giant Bomb people thought at first too.

It looks like they were taken to the XMB menu, and when he chose Madden 25 it shows the clips from madden 25 they had available.

It is the understand that the system is ALWAYS recording. So when you hit share, there should never be " nothing " saved.

I've done this countless times (the last time I waited nearly an hour) and it always gives me the last 15 minutes of footage right up to when I push the button.

I can't help but chuckle that you seem to think that just because it's happening to you, it must be happening to everyone.

Hope it gets sorted for you soon.

Anyone checked with the "can't record" notifications? Maybe it gets into trouble when it hits these restricted bits and doesn't resume properly after you've gone past the bit not allowed for recording

I think you need to log into facebook. You can set it to never post anything to facebook, and you can set it to share videos/photos so only you can see them. So then you can go to your facebook and download them to keep or reupload to youtube.

I've been having issues with the share feature as well, specifically in Killzone (so far it has seemed to work correctly in resogun and AC4). Multiple times over the last few days I have hit the share button once after something cool has happened... I check later and I have no video clip or a clip from a completely different time. There definitely is a bug somewhere.

has this bug been reported to Sony yet? any way to actually submit bugs?

Official forums are probably the best way. I was in there yesterday and went through several pages but didn't see anything about the sharing feature. I'm not sure how widespread this really is and I'd be shocked if they're not already aware but it's certainly worth mentioning. I'd go to either the official forums, or tweet at yosp or the AskPlayStation account.

wow that kind of sucks. how am I supposed to know when I'm in the correct 15 minutes...

well.. usually sharing is usually when u do something awesome in the game and u r like WOW i wish if that is recorded. and its. the last 15 minutes of it.

however. i do hope there is an option in future update to let the user decide if its the last 15 mins or the next 15 mins as i am sure its very easy software thing to do.

all in all. its really better than 5 mins video like the other console is offering. much better. " and i am not posting this as shots fired on xbox one, just honestly in my mind i find 5 mins is not enough. not enough for 1 match in COD online even. "

Oh good, I'm not alone! I was playing KZ for a while, then a friend then joined up. About an hour later, I did something cool in Killzone, so I hit share. The screenshot/preview showed the correct level, however all of the video was from an hour before, when my friend wasn't even playing with me, on a completely different map.

This happened to me in BF4. Not only did it record different footage, but recording seemed to stop entirely. I deleted some videos I didn't want and it seemed to work again. Seems kinda random.

I checked my footage after playing ACIV for over an hour last night and it was the last 15 minutes. This issue seems inconsistent. I wonder if it's a bug with certain games.

Definitely inconsistent for me. It's worked almost every time, but of course, the one time I actually wanted to use it, it didn't work. I was playing Killzone, had a nice moment (in SP) I wanted to rewatch, and it only offered me the initial 15 minutes of play (which at this point was a good 90+ minutes old). That happened to me one other time, I think while playing FIFA.

I'd say it's had an 80% success rate for me.

Has there been any update on this issue? I haven't been able to record the last 15 min of game play for a few days now. It worked fine for the first few days after launch.

This has happened to me a few times now. Do something awesome, hit Share to make sure the video is saved, then when I go back to edit it when I'm finished playing it'll have captured 15 minutes from earlier in the session with the video ending maybe 10 minutes before the point in the gameplay when I hit Share. It happens like that more often than not.

So is there or has there been any acknowledgement on this recording issue by Sony?

Sometimes it seems to work for me, but mostly it doesn't.

The thumbnails seem to be correct but the video sometimes isn't.

I hope they fix this soon.

I thought it was just me going insane. It's clearly a bug. I have many clips that I didn't share and even more that I wanted to see again (with thumbnails of the gameplay I want) that appear to have vanished and/or instead replaced with a completely different clip.

I was playing BF4 the other and took down a chopper with my RPG and I was going to show it to my brother, but when I pressed the share button and checked the video it was showing me 15 minutes from a match I had played over and hour before. Same happened to my brother when he wanted to show me something that happened in one of his matches. Has this happened to any of you guys?

I wanted to show a chopper rpg kill too...my bf4 footage seems to only be a clip from days ago, and I hit the share button all like "wait till people see this!" ..then just a 3 day old clip of the damn menus and loadouts...sigh.

welp, add another PS4 user to the list...

had a great stretch in BF4 recently and hit share like I normally do. only this time the 14:51(?) it recorded was almost 10 minutes of me sitting at the main menu and then the first 4 or so minutes of the match before it stopped. it missed the entire last part of the match up and until the end where I hit the share button.

i've never had this issue before and it clearly missed the last 8 minutes or so prior to the button press. very odd.

yes this is a bug many people are getting, myself included.we have a lengthy thread about this on the official forums but no mod has acknowledged it yet.

Yea I've had that too, It's weird at times it seems to just record random stuff, yesterday I was able to record what I wanted, but I had to close BF4 after the recording, Idk if that made it work right or it was just random.

Share button issues seem to be very well known at this point yet no official response. I know people have posted in official forums and tweeted already, but I'm yet to see a reply.
