How does the Wii Classic Controller Pro compare with the Wii U Pro Controller?

My friend and I currently play Injustice on Wii U a lot (and sometimes Tekken), so I was considering buying a second Pro Controller. The Gamepad's less than stellar battery life means that eventually we end up having to plug it into the wall socket. This isn't much of an issue when it's the two of us, but when more people are involved it can be annoying.

Right now, I also have 2 regular Classic Controllers, but we don't like using them because of the positioning of the ZL/ZR buttons.

So I'm wondering if I should just get a Classic Controller Pro since it's cheaper than a Pro Controller. (We don't mind that it has to connect to a wiimote) I've never used a CCP so I'm wondering what people think about it.

Wii U Pro Controller is significantly better in every regard (battery life, ergonomics, sticks, etc)

If you want to use it for Wii games, take the Classic Controller, if you want to use it for WiiU games, take the Pro Controller.
As a controller, the Pro Controller is a lot better. The battery Life is insane, it has rumble, the sticks are clickable. It's all around better than the classic, but you can't use it for Wii Mode.

he was specifically asking about the Classic Controller Pro... not the Classic Controller.

but yeah I agree.. for VC games the Classic Controller (non-pro) is awesome.

but for everything, the WUPC is in every way better than the Classic Controller Pro.

Hate the thing, purely because of how it plugs into the Wiimote rather than being stand-alone. With that not being an issue, it's still slightly worse than the Wii U Pro Controller, but not a huge margin so it would depend on the price disparity.

It's the only way to really play Smash Bros. Brawl for me on a Wii U though. RIP Gamecube ports.

Yep. U Pro is more comfortable too. Battery lasts a ton too. If you're in the US and there's a Best Buy close by, they might still have some of the white ones for $10 - $20.

Ergonomically, I prefer the Classic Controller Pro. While I can get used to it, I think the analog stick and button layout on the Wii U Pro Controller is inferior in just about every regard.

The Wii U Pro Controller feels a little more solidly built though, and it still works quite well.

Yeah I like the Pro Controller overall (minor issue being the D-pad and face buttons feel slightly too close to each other).

Well it seems I should just get another one :)

I like the feel of the older classic controller better. It feels like a really sturdy SNES controller with dual sticks and triggers. I like the stick/button placement better too.
Wii U pro controller buttons are too loose feeling, and the stick placement is just weird.

Wii Classic Pro is great imho. I have three of them and I'll not buy a Wii U Pro controller.
But if you have to buy a brand new one, considering the battery life, the rumble and the complete compatibiity with all the Wii U library (not guaranteed for the Classic Pro) go with the new one*

*keep in mind that obviously the Wii U Pro controller is useless if you plan to play Wii games.

I enjoy the classic controller pro more, not sure why, maybe playing brawl/project m for 1500 hours has made me really accustomed to it.

Yeh, I have 2 regular CC's for Wii games and I doubt I'd ever need more. I suppose the Pro Controller is the obvious choice - I was just trying to be cheap I guess

Pro controller is the best controller on the market, period. That includes my hands on time with the DS4. No U owner should hesitate in grabbing one, and I say that as someone who loves the gamepad.

Wii U Pro is my favorite controller of all time. CCP is very comfortable as well. I love how, for some games, I have the option to choose which controller I want to use. An amazing freedom to have.

eh, I actually disagree slightly. I just did a whole gaming session on my DS4 last night and the DS4 wins by a small amount.

But yes, DS4 and WUPC are far above both 360 and DS3 controllers, and way beyond most everything else. I retired my 360 controller from my PC permanently 3 months ago and couldn't possibly be happier about it. WUPC has been awesome on the PC (as well as Wii U obviously)

Like everyone else, I think they're both very good controllers. The Wii U Pro makes a lot of sense and it feels great in the hands, even if it looks a bit backward. You should have a CCP anyway if you want to play some older Wii games, like Smash Bros or something.

I think both controllers' L and R buttons are uncomfortable to use, and I favor the zL and zR buttons. I swap them whenever I can.

Does it just pair up as a regular Bluetooth device? Is it a pain to configure for XInput-compatible games (which is pretty much everything these days)?

I thought they were almost exactly on par, but what swayed the Pro for me was that it feels a lot more solid in the hands. And I think that while the DS4 triggers are a definite improvement over the DS3, and there's nothing wrong with them at all, I still felt that the Pro's were more solidly implemented, and gave a better tactile sensation.

I can see preferring the button placement on the DS4 though. I find myself mapping a lot of things on the Pro to X & A as opposed to the usual Y & B for the most common actions.

They're both god tier though, I have nothing bad to say about the DS4. I haven't actually tried the Xbone controller yet, but it looks good.

The CC Pro is absolutely terrible if you have to use the sticks, and fantastic if you're using the dpad. U Pro is great for everything, with the best stick placement of any contemporary controller.

I agree. It's pretty crazy how no one had tried this stick layout before. I prefer it to anything else.

The Classic Controller is better for SNES VC games, but the Pro Controller is better for pretty much anything else. If the face buttons had been in the more standard spot, it would've been the best controller ever, in my opinion.

You need a dongle that is supported by the Toshiba bluetooth stack, and another program to map the controller to xinput how you want it to. Both are one time fire and forget things. After that, it works perfectly with Xinput.

DS4 pairs up to bluetooth natively. You have to force the DS4 into pairing mode (or use it wired). Button mapping isn't 100% perfect 1:1 to 360, but all buttons and sticks are available in Xinput. Obviously not the touchpad or gyro/motion stuff.

At this point, I wouldn't waste the money on a classic controller pro. Someday you're probably going to want a Wii U Pro controller, and you just spent $25 or whatever on a different controller that could have went towards the WIIUP

Generally my thoughts:
-CC for VC games. It's excellent for 2D stuff.
-CCPro is more all-range, it can do both but doesn't quite have the best feel for either.
-WUCP is for 3D games, it's not built for heavy d-pad/cross button use, it's built more for FPSs and things that are very stick and shoulder button heavy.

CC is discontinued, CCPro is the cheapest, WUCP is more expensive but doesn't need a Wiimote to tether to and has insane battery life.

Can the Wii U Pro be used as a Classic Controller for Wii games or does it lack support? I'm about to start Xenoblade and I hate how the wiimote+nunchuck control.

No, unfortunately it can't, but the classic controller pro is pretty great for Xenoblade.

I like the Pro better than the CCP for everything now. I used to like the CCP better for VC, but not anymore. The Pro controller is just too comfy. Playing with the CCP's d-pad feels a little weird now. I think the position of the d-pad actually feels better on the Wii U Pro controller.

But if you're playing fighting games, I recommend getting a Tatsunoko VS Capcom or Tekken Tag Tournament 2 stick from Mad Catz.

Wii U Pro controller has become my favorite "classic-style" controller. Ergonomics, buttons, d-pad, sticks, battery life... it's great and feels even better.

I only wish Nintendo had included analog triggers and gyroscope/motion sensors so it would have better/bigger/universal compatibility (plus, gyro aiming is great).
