How excited are you for No Man's Sky?

Excitement kinda died. Gonna stay realistic and wait for some footage after the game has been released. No need to have too high of an expectation for this game imo, since they've hardly showed any meaningful gameplay.

Not very. It looks like a neat concept, but looks like something I'd bore of quickly. It also looks like it could be a big time sink, and I'm trying to avoid those types of things. With my limited gaming time I try not to play many games longer than 20-30 hours tops as they take me ages to get through and limited the number of games I can play. So something has to be really special to be worth more time than that to me.

I continue to be incredibly excited. 65daysofstatic is my favorite band, and the concept still sounds amazing to me. I will be there Day 1.

Not at all really given their avoidance of showing real gameplay, it's starting to sound like any other survival/exploration game tbh

After the first trailer I was very excited.

Now I'm not bothered. Seems like it'll get boring very quickly. For me anyway. I like having deep quests.

I'm still excited just because it seems it will have an awesome and immersive soundtrack. I'm still hope they will add tons of missions and interesting stuff to do in this infinite world. There's hugeeeeee potential in this game but if it's only going to be exploration from planet to planet just to register it and nothing else, then is not gonna be that memorable IMO. But I'm still excited ya'

I'm not and have been always clueless as to why this community has been so enthusiastic. We've seen next to nothing about the game. We've been told more than we've seen which doesn't breed excitement for visual entertainment.

Not at all excited, honestly I think people who got excited at the beginning where just projecting their own imagination into what it would be. I don't expect this game to be fun to play at all

I dont usually get very excited about upcoming games. I plan on getting nms, though. I dicked around in skyrim for 30 or 40 hours. Skyrim was a poir rpg but a fine and pleasant sandbox. I much prefer a scifi setting, so nms sounds right up my alley.

It's one of my top three most anticipated games of the year.

I've "seen" plenty. In fact, I'm almost of the opinion that they shouldn't have shown some of the stuff that we've seen already. The warp gate mechanic, for example. This is the kind of thing that would have been completely insane to discover on your own. I'm just hoping that they are keeping a few more juicy secrets back for this reason.

It's probably very true, anyway.

Survival doesn't have to be "danger at every step" you will be put in danger unprovoked quite often going by what Sean has been saying on the game. You can be attacked by animals, AI ships, carnivorous plants.

So would you rate Gears of War or Halo or The Order 1886 as survival? I wouldn't. What you described could literally be any game in which the player can die. Survival generally refers to a game like Dead Space or P.T. where the player has limited (or no) resources and is constantly on edge.

lol How is that not also "projecting your own imagination" into what NMS could be?

If it doesn't look interesting to you, cool. Plenty of other stuff out there.

I could not care less about the game.
I dont care about most games untill I get to try them out.
I ve got my eye on it and when it comes out I will check it out and then decide if I am excited or not...

The main point I was getting across at that moment was that there is danger and it's not just an ambient adventure.

I see survival as a more crucial element to this game just because of the punishment of losing all of your resources when you die, and having those resources are crucial to get you through the game. The longer you survive, the more resources you build up. I'd imagine you'd come across a lot of risk vs reward scenarios while straying too far from your ship. The game's portal mechanic is a good example of this.

Very low. I don't have any indication that the exploration will be compelling, and I'm very selective about games I'm going to spend that much time on.

I'm excited about the potential the game has but.. been down that "all encompassing" road before.

I only bring this up since I see you post in the E:D thread, but NMS is what I wish E:D exploration was like. If you want to talk about a watered down experience, "exploring" a planet by stopping next to it and scanning it for a couple seconds is my definition of it.

Your other arguments are on point though. I like the ascetic of having planets close together (what people are calling a "sci-fi book cover" look), but it doesn't seem like much fun to travel if it only takes a couple seconds to get from one planet's surface to another. I hope they at least slow down re-entry to make it feel like a bigger deal. I've accepted that this is a more arcadey title than Elite, and I'm perfectly okay with that. I hope it'll be easier to get friends on board since they're a little intimidated by Elite...

Yeah I don't think anyone in their right mind would defend the mechanics of gathering exploration data in Elite. And it's obviously not complete, it has level1 and 2 inactive. But that's just system data, exploring in Elite is not just about that. And it has an amazing framework which hopefully will be used better and better.

Not at all excited. They're going for an 'arcadey' style which just isn't my thing.

Wow, there's a blast from the past. I remember reading that they eventually patched in all the features that were missing.

Less excited than I used to be. The launch trailer was impressive but since then I don't feel that they've shown anything else to maintain that level of excitement.

Hope to be impressed with the final product though, but I'm keeping my expectations in check.

Quite excited as the game looks to be quite up my alley in terms of the exploration part, since I'm free to set my own pace.

Plus, the performance of 65daysofstatic for the game at PSX has me hyped for the soundtrack (I can actually credit the NMS collaboration for getting me into the band in the first place).

There is no evidence to suggest this No man sky will be a great GAME. It might be great on a technical level but so are a lot of games.

I am mostly excited at the prospect of a lot of angry people on this forum crying and complaining about how disappointed they are.

Hype seems to be down for this game right now because we haven't seen any new footage since VGX. Hype seems to be correlated with PR cycles, especially for a game as unusual as this. I think perceptions are really going to change when ordinary people start streaming this game.

I personally am really excited at the prospect of discovering entire virtual planets no one else has seen before, and that the prospect of essentially infinite terrain to discover and explore. The only big worry I have is that the procedural generation will get repetitive too soon.

I've tried to play some of the Elite games on PC and was pretty blown away at the scale of Frontier. I just can't really handle Frontier's newtonian physics model. Elite: Dangerous looks really cool and will likely get even more amazing once terrain exploration is in. I also hear Star Citizen will eventually feature a procedurlaly-genreated galaxy. I still don't like the prospect of Dangerous being online-only, and I have no idea if I'll be able to run Star Citizen when it's out. If No Man's Sky can become basically a more accessible, easy-to-handle version of Frontier, I'll be satisfied with it.

Not at all. Still don't understand what is supposed to be fun about this game. The small amount of people working out also makes me wonder if there are enough resources behind this idea. I could easily change my mind though.

None at all? Now define what a game should be.

None at all? Now define what a game should be.

All we have seen is shooting holes in asteroids, walking to a spaceship, and getting out of a spaceship after landing. Maybe there is more that has been shown but I don't remember.

I'll be excited when they show more gameplay. Right now, it is all about their planet generation. I would like to see what the game is.

keeping it ultra low until it's officially out...still hoping for an organic evolving story as you explore some worlds, that would be beautiful.

I want to see that talk become visualized, I agree with Lactose above.

I was interested, but then it started to feel like i been waiting for ages..
and after all the shit games we been having for a while now.. doubt is setting in.
