How excited are you for No Man's Sky?

I want to be really excited... But I'm scared to go all the way and be depressed if it sucks. Right now I'm in an excitement holding pattern until we get real information.

I'm hyped/interested... But I feel others are setting themselves up for disappointment. It looks great, but I'm keeping my expectations reasonable.

The only way this game would be anything special is if the procedural generation is so insane that basically nothing was similar to each other.

Considering I don't think the tiny no man's sky team is capable of a revolutionary feat that would change game creation forever, I'm going to say that most likely there will be a bunch of similar planets that differ basically only in color and preset biome, a lot of really coincidentally similar enemy and monster types throughout the galaxy, a lot of planets having suspiciously similar ruins, etc

It's just the nature of procedural generation. It's good for some people, but I get bored of it quickly once I see all the content.

I've been losing interest in it.

I'm still gonna get it, but it's been quite a while already since we have last got a big update on the game. We still have no idea when it's susposed to go come out this year either. This is why showing off a game that won't be ready for another 2 years or so is a bad thing and hurts the hype for the game more so than benefit it.

Those guys need to take notes from people at Bethesda for example when it comes to creating and keeping hype. Soon they will announce Fallout 4 and release it later in the same year. Having the audience not wait too long but not too soon either. That's key.

It's been said that pretty much everything you do in game, from cataloging new creatures, piracy, resource mining/trading, etc. will earn you credits.
Now, some may be more time-efficient than others. We don't know how these things are going to be balanced yet. That's the kind of thing nobody's going to know until it's actually out.

The same is true in Elite, but things can still turn into a grind in those games. A lot of the time because of what ship you have.

We already know you can only trade ships in NMS, not upgrade them. You might have a ship geared towards transport that's not great at fighting or exploring, and to afford the one you want you may have to run a trade route a few times or something. But like you said, we don't know how that kind of thing is going to be balanced. Everybody probably isn't going to be able to do everything well with one ship though.

Oh, yeah, that's a given, I think. They've stated how cargo + fuel are the same inventory on ships, and that fighters will likely not have much cargo space. So it makes sense that you'd have to basically "decide" how you wanted to go about making most of your money before you upgrade to a specialized ship. That being said - Animal cataloging is done on foot. So that's still probably an option.either way :)

I'd be surprised if anyone started out with a container ship or anything, for example. I think it's probably just gonna be a shuttlecraft type thing to start with.

I was never all that hyped for it to begin with. Sounds interesting, but I'm not sure how fun it will be. I won't consider buying it until I hear opinions after the game releases and hype dies down a bit, probably after a sale.
