Was trying frantically for the past couple of weeks to get an Xbox Series X to play Halo Infinite on, but even after following a whole bunch of Twitter restock accounts, the bots always seem to win in the end. Fortunately, I have an Xbox One X and Halo Infinite multiplayer looks fine on it running at 60fps so now I'm not really sweating it much. I think I'll just use the $550 I had set aside to splurge on other things and try again early next year.

Unless you're desperate enough to camp outside retail stores overnight for the Holiday restock events, pay scalper prices ($800+), or are a scalper yourself, there's very little chance of getting either the XSX or PS5 until January or later.

Got an XSX on launch day through Microsoft Store. If I can pass one bit of advice:

If u actually get a console in your cart but can't complete the transaction, just wait for 5 minutes...don't refresh. Never refresh.

The shortage is obvious but it wasn't too bad for me. I grabbed my PS5 when I happened upon it by chance but I would have had other chances in the months after. The S has been more easily available in my country though I've seen it go out of stock a couple of times. I mostly bought it on impulse while I was shopping for other things.

I've never seen an X though.

Got super lucky with the pre order for PS5 last September. I didn't get the first batch but managed to secure on the second, which arrived late December. I love the PS5 but I wouldn't go through it again for it. It was a lot of wait and uncertainty if I would get one or not. I rarely buy consoles on day 1 but couldn't pass up since it launched with Demon's Souls. Now the situation seems even worse than a year ago.

Horrible. I am demoralized and would quit gaming for a bit if i didn't have a backlog, a switch and pc with 3060ti. Can't get a ps5 or oled switch and it makes no sense (especially for the switch as its just a revision. I had no problem getting the last revision. )

REally pissed me off I didn't know sony sent the invitation link to a different email account. I was 2 months too late. I was there on pre-order day only to find it sold out before the start the night before. Then on launch i spent an entire day on walmart and other places having assholes steal from me left and right. In your cart doesn't mean its in your cart.

These places need to fuck over bots and scalpers and sell in store 1 per customer.

And don't give me twitter tracker bs. I've tried the "drops" walmart and best buy always never get to "checkout" as when you push button you get item is no longer in your cart. So some scumbag, asshole, peice of shit garbage steals your item. Fuck them to hellllll!

Only reason i have a 3060ti is due to owning a 2060 and getting on evga step up. Which still took 8 months.,
No way am i paying a asshole scalper.

I don't see how there is this much demand. How do people have the money first off. I remember when ps3 was $500 and it was the laughing stock of the internet. Yet people now pay scalpers $800+?

It also doesn't seem like stock is going anywhere in the last month.

I give up!!!! Someone help!! Please?

The worst part is my ps4 is broken . and I am not replacing that when it cost more than launch to do so. Sony isn't making enough of those either. Plus why do that when i will eventually get a ps5.
My ps3 is broken too, bluetooth and wireless don't work. Have use cord for controllers and wired internet. Pain in the ass, and those are super expensive too. wtf..

Only system i have working is switch, pc, ps2 , ps1 classic, 3ds xl and vita. So got stuff to play but damn does it suck.

I thought about getting a PS5 but I couldnt be bothered to put any more effort in that checking amazon periodically. I never found one so at this point I think I gave up for good. Will just stick with PC gaming and pray we get some of these PS5 exclusives eventually.

Wife bought me a ps5 for launch, bought my series s the day I decided to get one. Was easy peasy... For me, wife had a really tough time getting my ps5 at launch.

I have been extremely lucky. Saw a tweet from Walmart Canada in September saying a new PS5 batch was going to be available the next day at 11am. I finished a work meeting at 11:08, went on to Walmart.ca and managed to preorder a Standard PS5 with an extra controller bundle and picked it up on launch day.

I bought a series X at launch last year. About 3 months ago I got serious about looking for a PS5. Finally snagged one from Sony Direct last week.

Bought one at launch thru Amazon and then I also happened to be lucky af enough to win one thru Burger Kings PS5 Promotion. Gave that one to a friend tho

Went for an ice cream with my daughter in August and randomly walked in a mediamarkt where they had 10 - 15 PS5 bundled with an extra controller and puyo puyo tetris 2.
I could not believe it but I saw a guy grabbing two and going to the cashier so I took one and ran for my life.

Mine was not too bad (still petty tho). Pre-ordered from a local gamestore in April, finally got the PS5 in September (with the official price).

Better than joining the raffles system, I have no luck on that one. I don't wanna give more money to the scalpers. Lol

Try waiting over night when you know theres gonna be an in person drop. My buddy just did this for a halo series x console at best buy and got one. Yeah he had to wait in line overnight for like 12 hours, but he got it

Thanks for the tip, but I don't need one that badly at the moment. Fair play to your mate. I wouldn't have the mental strength to wait in line for 12 hours.

I've tried a couple of times to get a hold of a PS5 but with no luck. This was part of the reason I quit buying ps games for most of the year but I caved in and bought a couple of games this week.

no luck at all. but then again, I'm only going after one when I heard any leads, so that's probably not helping my luck. I don't mind waiting thou. I would LOVE to have one right now but I've been mostly playing on my PC so I'm holding out just fine.

I started looking for console in Jan randomly checkng online stores. Amazon, BB, Walmart, Costco. One morning I checked Costco in March and stock was there. So I got a Series X. Downside is they force a bundle on you with an additional controller.

I probably would had done better if I signed up for notification alerts at the various stores, but never bothered.

I dont know how true this is, but sometimes people say if you want to score random stock online, do checks at midnight or middle of the night when their inventory system updates. If you wait till morning it might be too late. Worth a try if you are that desperate for a system.

How has my luck been? Un-fucking-believable, is how it's been.

Where I live there are no games or electronics stores - and the only store that sells consoles is a business shop that stocks a couple just for wealthy businessmen who find themselves without a birthday present for little Johnny and need something NOW. For that reason the Switch currently sells in there for $900 - USD. PS4 is still $800 and so on. Not an option.

In April I had to go to the US for work. I had one day off. Pulled up to Best Buy to do some shopping and low and behold they were unloading consoles from a truck. Went inside to the customer help desk and asked if I could get one as soon as they were put in the system. She said that could take hours. I said okay. Left my details.

Came back 5 hours later and an XSX was waiting for me. I had literally one shot in the entire past year and I got it. Unreal luck.

I was very lucky to get a PS5 back in August. I didn't realize how lucky I was until I went to buy a couple of games for it, and the guy behind the desk was like; "PS5, huh? Where the hell did you find one?"

I've still never gotten one from Playstation Direct, but I have managed to get about 15 or so PS5s at this point, mostly from Walmart, but they've been harder lately. I've only gotten a few Xbox's, but just got this one today.

I dont know if it was a nice clerk or a cancelled order, but when I got Xbox One in 2013 where it was impossible to find stock and I just walked into a Best Buy and asked if there were any. There definitely wasnt any on shelves or the locked cage when stores still sold most games as physical discs.

She popped into the online orders stock room and grabbed me one.

Works for me.

I was fortunate to receive an invitation to pre-order a PS5 directly from Sony in September 2020. The periphreals arrived in October and the console arrived on launch day with no shenanigans. Overall it was the best console pre-ordering experience I ever had.

I look out at all the agony many people have gone through trying and failing to get one and I honestly feel bad for all those still struggling a year later, knowing its going to continue. But I can't recommend going through PS direct enough. It was just so smooth and painless like a well-oiled machine.

Just sold my launch XSX to a friend of mine, gave him a discount; got it straight from MS store, msrp.
Sold it cause I got the Halo LE XSX, also through the MS store.

Pretty bad. I have about $240 in a Gamestop trade in/gift card so ideally I want it thru Gamestop. May just give up for now on ps5 or xsx and just try for a switch oled since I am playing so much Diablo 2 on it anyway in handheld mode. Plus it would only be $120 out of pocket compared to $275.

Just got my 2nd PS5, first one had coil whine and I think I'm gonna sell it. XSX was a three week wait to pick it up in store.

Good actually. Went on a PS5 spree in January. Got an additional 5 of them but it was all favors for people I knew well and I sold them at retail.

It's going to be harder between now and Christmas. Scalpers are trying to load up as well but should be better again in January.

Very lucky for me. Managed to get my PS5 on launch day due to pre-ordering it as soon as the price was announced and got my Series X from Amazon in April on a back order which was supposed to be a months wait but it arrived within a fortnight.

Have half heartedly tried to get a PS5 a few times, via checking online a few times a week. At one point had one in my basket but let it back into the wild due to I wasn't flush with money that week. I guess I'm really blasé about it. Can't be bothered, so that's a sign that I'm willing to wait months if not years. If not just flagging it completely. Only thing that will get me to check again is that our PS4 is starting to show its age and sometimes acts up. At this point might just get another PS4 on the cheap and stick with PC/Switch.

I have both, was lucky enough to be online when pre-orders went live and I was able to snag them for delivery on launch day.

BUT my PS5 just died and I'm JUST out of the one year warranty period. I'm trying to decide if I even want to bother replacing it... Especially since they're so hard to find.

Consoles—good. Missed the boat on the Halo Series 2 Elite controller though. I'll probably pay the scalper tax—of which there are TONS—after Christmas.

Pre-ordered and got 2 Series X at launch, scalped one and kept the other. I just see it that my console cost me £250. Took me total of an hour or so to get them.

Less supply low key makes it more fun to shop for a console, second hand market is valued more. The other way would be just getting a McDouble on the spot something Xbox or PlayStation aren't.

I've been able to get 5 PlayStation 5s, 3 Series X, and a Series S so far. Don't worry, not a single one was sold for more then somebody buying me lunch as a thank you.
