The ignore option gives the person a false sense of "I got the last word in" for almost all those cases.

No one on my official ignore list, but there are a couple of folks I just skip whenever I see their name. One in PoliGAF, a couple of others on wider OT. For my own sanity, mostly, as they are posters of such incredible stupidity that attacking their comments is like trying to wrestle a pile of honey -- no matter how well it goes, you still come out with stupid smeared all over you.

My buddy list was empty, but I'm putting Itxaka there for saying nice things about me.

Its not opinions which are the issue for me, just the attitude. Intelligent conversation can't take place when one person just WANTS to argue. I have nothing to gain. They don't HAVE an opinion. They just say rude shit.

The person I ignored I just noticed was consistently rude to people for no reason. Maybe I'm less evolved for ignoring them, but I don't like to spend my leisure time being annoyed by trolls.

Funny thing is, the person I ignored didn't do/say anything directly to me. I just was sick of their rude comments always popping up.
I gave everyone a fair chance. Its time to start ignoring repeat offenders.

Am I the only person who has used the internet? Every forum has a few people who contribute nothing but flames. They don't have a veiwpoint, just an axe to grind with whoever looks like an easy target. I LOVE debating things with people. I'm fine with that.

I know what you mean, but for me I'd like to believe that those people are going to post something worthwhile and even if they don't, then most people catch unto their behavior and just laugh about it.

I just started using the ignore list relatively recently (within the last year out of being here for ten). Anybody I see blatantly trolling topics goes on there. I've also started throwing anybody who posts spoilers in the Lost thread on ignore. Eleven people on the list now, some of them I admittedly don't remember why. And for the Lost folks, I end up clicking "show post" outside of the Lost thread anyway for the most part. Just don't want to risk seeing any spoilers in that thread, so I ignore anybody who has ignored the rules of the ongoing weekly topics.


Much like the OP, I realized I'm too old for this shit and once I put that first person on the list the next few were easier. I figured I'm already using the feature, may as well make full use of it.

edit: When I say I don't remember why, I mean I don't remember the specific thread that caused me to click the ignore button. I don't really have anybody on my ignore list that has me baffled completely.

Nobody on either. Like others have said, I think it is petty to put people on ignore. I've been tempted, but I believe it is better to learn to deal with people that piss you off rather than building an ignore list in the hundreds. If I could survive HUELEN's tenure without ignoring him, I can't foresee myself ever using the function.

I know I'm on a few ignore lists, but oh well.

As for using the ignore list, I don't have infinite time to waste on GAF, so I'd rather spend what time I have to be reading the posts of people that actually have something worthwhile to say, rather than stirring up shit. I also have a bunch of people who can't form coherant sentences on my ignore list. And add me to the people that have no clue what the buddy list does.
