How many consoles died on you this generation?

None out of a launch 60GB PS3, a slim PS3, and a 360 (not launch, but not a slim).

My Wii was a casualty to a cat who chewed through the sensor bar wire, so I had to order a new sensor bar. That is the extent of problems this generation.

- DS Lite
- PSP 2000. Techinically it still works but the backlight is broken and I'm too lazy to take it apart and repair it.

My ole phaty 60 GB PS3 bite the dust one year ago. Still tried to revive it but it was just a temporary solution to salvage my save files and to deactivate my accounts. I still have the corpse stored in a closet. I would donate it to an hospital or an institution if the repair was more "definitive"...

I've been lucky I guess and none so far.

I do hate how non chalant the tone of this thread is. It's like halfway this gen it become acceptable that your console could break, lol. It should be flat out unacceptable. If any of my consoles broke I sure as hell wouldn't buy it again.

Nintendo has been good to me recently. I went through 3 GameCubes after they fell, but after my Wii fell once, it wouldn't read many discs very well. Had it fixed and the problems returned, so I've moved on to USB loading to avoid all the issues. But with no account system, I haven't spent more than $5 on anything digital for the Wii.

I don't have a 360,my Wii always worked fine and i have changed my phat PS3 once (YLOD).
Both my DSLite and PSP 2000 still work perfectly.

Is someone tabulating these? It's interesting to see that some people have lost multiple PS3s or 360s.

For my count, I've lost a PS3 (Blu-ray drive died) and my DS Phat (hinge broke).

1 DS Lite and 1 PS3.

never had a console break on me before this gen and i've been gaming since early NES days. even my PS2 still works and i've played the SHIT out of it.

when did they introduce planned obsolescense again?

This gen, nothing.
Still alive: X360, PS3, PS2 slim, PSP-1000, DS Lite, GB Color, GameCube, N64.

Only had a phat PS2 die on me, guess I'm extremely fortunate.

1, my launch 360. After 1-2 years, I dont remember any more.

I dont remember either but since then I've cycled through several 360's over the years (upgrading and such) and never had a problem. So, not bad. I had a 120GB Jasper elite that lasted solidly for at least 4+ years before I sold it to get a slim.

But, speaking of that slim, it has a loud DVD drive and I'm going to send it in for service while it's still under warranty. However, it works fine, so I'm not sure if it should really count as my 2nd defective 360 or just me being picky.

I haven't had a system break down on me, but the 360 I bought was one of the Jasper units that came after the whole RROD fiasco, so that's probably how I avoided that one.

My MGS4 ps3 died about 18 months ago and my launch Wii lasted about 3 years. Ironically my 360 is still going strong - although that could be down to ps3 being my multiplatform console.

Nothing absolutely died on me, but had to do two Wii replacements. The first one was at launch due to regular disc read errors. The second one was due to being unable to read dual layer SSBB disc.

This Wii / DS gen is the first one I feel like Nintendo dropped the ball in terms of hardware quality. DSLs with broken hinges and these Wii issues. Never ever experienced hardware issues from them before.

3 Xbox 360s, all first model. First one broke under warranty (red ring), MS sent me 2 by mistake, and they've both broken since then (one red ring, one GPU failure [I think]).

My PS3, Wii and DSLite are all working normally.

12 Xbox 360's
1 PS3

My first PS3 had a broken blu-ray drive out of the box. I rarely use my PS3 except for the occasionaly blu-ray movie and PS3 exclusive.

I had a launch Xbox 360. I got it on launch day and bought Microsoft's "extended warranty" for $60. I think they quit offering the extended warranty after the RROD "scandal" went widespread. Anyway, they replaced about 8 or 9 Xbox's under the extended warranty. One of the replacement consoles was broken on arrival - the disc drive would not open. Anyway, they kept replacing my launch console with other "refurbished" launch consoles, and well...none of them were really fixed because there was a design flaw (too much heat). But, the patch-jobs didn't last long, so I went through 8 or 9 refurbished consoles over the course of a few months. When the warranty ran out, I bought a new console with the new motherboard, and it lasted a couple of years. Then, I bought an even newer xbox when that one broke, but before the new "S" model Xbox's came out.

Of course, I use the hell out of my 360. I'm just hoping this one lasts until the "new" consoles come out.

...I do most of my gaming on Xbox 360, then on my pc gaming rig, and then on PS3. The Wii only gets a look in for Mario titles and an occasional exclusive.

2 360's. Both in warranty fortunately and the service was pretty good in getting them back. Well, they did send it 300 miles in the wrong direction to Scotland but meh, got it back the next day.

Things which haven't died...yet.

PS3, PSP Go (this gen?), Vita, 3DS, Wii

Xbox 360 Slim's wifi broke down so had to get it repaired, under warranty of course.

Wii and DS Lite worked perfectly for about 4-5 years I owned them.

3DS working like a charm.

3 360's (my 4th one died after I sold it to a friend). My 5th was a Falcon and never had issues, but it was stolen, my 6th (Jasper) never had issues. So all told I had 6 360s...

No other systems died, I did have a 40GB PS3 with a super loud fan, which made watching Blu-Rays unenjoyable.

The old Xbox 360 died on me (it would not read any disc) Bought a Xbox 360 Slim since it's debut and it's running great.

None of my Nintendo consoles/portables have ever had any issue.

well...when I had the old gameboy I had a line of dead pixels. But the system was still functional.

Holy hell at all these 360's. Insane.

I haven't had any die, although I've only had a 360 (phat, going strong since 2008), a DS lite, and a 3DS.

Not sure if it helps, but I am pretty careful with my 360. I always turn it off when I'm not using it, and I have only moved it a couple times in like 4 years. No big deal, but I know a lot of people handle theirs more than that and do stuff like leave it on for days at a time.

My 360 RRoD'd about 3 times and replaced for free 3 times, has been fine for about 2+ years or so now but I don't use it much
My 2007 Wii stopped reading games late 2010. Would have had it sent in and repaired but the Red Wii was coming up and I couldn't resist just replacing it with a superior color :p

That's it. Not too bad
