How many PS3 games were actually shown in 1080p?

So the games weren't all in 1080p with 120 fps and 4 dimensions?

I'm saying this stuff is not easy for consumers. In fact, it's a clusterfuck.

I agree, i've been following the standards more or less and it's still confusing as hell. I'm going to wait until 2008/9 to buy my next HD set when hopefully, some universal HD standard is set.

Are you serious now? EviLore was replying to GreenNight because he was blaming Sony for his ignorance. How can you spin this discussion like you did is beyond me.

PS. Have you anything to say about Klee's post, because you've been repeating these lies about component input not receiving 1080p all week.

I don't know too many people who have the space for front projectors. Front projectors are unrealistic for 99% of the gaming population.
So start listing Direct view/RPTV HDTV's that accept 1080p over component.

Also, need to clear this up: Rainbow Six Vegas demonstration on the Ubisoft booth was from the PC version with a 360 controller.

I have seen Gametrailers.com give the game best graphics on Xbox 360, while it wasn't even on Xbox 360 on the show floor. Maybe they saw some behind closed door stuff, and I have no doubt it will look gorgeous on 360, but that mega-impressive demo we all saw at the booth, was of the PC version.

Just to clear that up, people seem to misunderstanding, though Ubisoft is guilty of it as well, since the presenter actually said it was Xbox 360, but meaning it's 'also on' Xbox 360, very confusing. I talked to the lead designer and took a look at the demo booth, running on PC confirmed, I suspect the same for Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highwaydemo , by the way, though no one wanted to confirm anything, they kept silent.

Sony did, last year.
I only can remember before the release of the console they said the console would reach the 1080p, not that ALL PS3 will be in 1080p. Or do you have a link?

Yeah, I was like "what? They're removing HDMI from the PS3 in a new SKU?"

The numbers are there and a jump from 720p to 1080p should be noticable, you just need a large screen to notice. I'm guessing a game thats natively rendered at 1080i/p won't be able to show its benefits (over 720p) until you hit a 45"+ Screen. The larger the screen the bigger the contrast will be.

Yeah CNet states over and over in their reviews that on any sub 50" television it would take serious scrutiny to notice a difference between 720p and 1080p signals.

This is an old thread and all, but are they talking about filmed material in that comparison?

I think videogames/graphics are something different. I can definitely tell the difference when my PS3 flicks from, say, the 1080p XMB to a 720p game, just as I can see the difference when I play a PC game at 1280x... vs 1680x... and that's on a relatively tiny monitor (20").

I was wondering how someone can have a $2k 2008 HDTV with no 1080p support.

For film content yes. For videogames it is noticeable. Just think how many of us pumped up the resolution on PC games to 1600x1200 on our smaller PC displays and could still see the improvement.
jimmbow said:
why the hell do so many people think only HDMI can do 1080p?

EDIT: holy butter-fuckers at the necro!!!
1080p over component isn't a widely accepted standard even though there is enough bandwidth for it. I know my HDTV won't accept 1080p over component.

Given that the vast majority of gamers still don't understand how to properly setup HD and use the correct cables, etc, let alone mainstream users and the fact that HDTV owners are a tiny minority, I would say HD gaming is the biggest joke ever perpetrated on the industry.

What a total waste of money and resources.

You have to factor in distance from the screen.

And awareness of the user, too. Some people will be able to notice stuff that many people will not.

Someone who is graphically and video savvy will be able to see the difference.

That is true. Obviously I'm closer with a PC monitor.

But I still don't know if you can weigh up the impact of resolution with rendered graphics in the same way as filmed material. I think you probably hit a point of diminishing returns sooner with filmed material, for a given screen-size/viewing distance.

Film is different. I can't recall exactly why but IIRC it has something to do with video being practically infinitely anti-aliased/smoothed.
