How often do you buy used game?

I have never bought a used game.

However, I have sold my games to others to afford more NEW games, but I don't buy my games at release so much I wait until its cheap.

dito, there are so many games out there, that I also play older games first and wait till the new ones get old...
 
If I buy older ps1 or ps2 games that are out of print, they're propably used. I don't give a shit about collecting sealed games. I buy them to play them. :I
 
I always enter a store with the intention of buying new, but if I see it used for cheaper, I'll buy that instead.

Unless the difference in price is tiny.

I haven't found my grabber title of the generation. One that keeps me enthralled for hundreds of hours, closest I can say is NSMBW.

Last gen it was KotOR. I put hundreds and hundreds of hours into it every chance I got.

I've loved a lot of games this gen, but none have gotten a hold on me like KotOR did last gen. Something about it made RPG's click for me.
 
Only when it's not available new. I'll buy old out-of-print games used, but other than that, I want a new copy. In case of severe price differences, I'll import.

Got a nice Italian Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance here, for instance. The game is a PAL-5 disk, meaning that the English version is also there, but the box and manual are Italian. Thankfully, the game had a pretty decent Guide built in. Half price of what it'd cost locally. The EU can be handy some times.

A few games, I'll never buy used, mostly DS games since a few have one-time only events per cart. Like Pokémon Ranger and the Manaphy event.
 
Not really sure how often, but generally if the games out of print, I'll go used. Sometimes I'll go for a used 1 over a "greatest hits/platinum" version just don't like the covers.
 
Often.

Unless it's some multiplayer centric game that I need to grab at launch, I rarely by full-priced new games.

Occasionally you can grab games on sale a few months later, in which case I'll buy new. But generally I just go for the cheapest option.
 
Never... the only 2 used games I have for this generation are the one that Game sent me without specifying that they were used... asswipes

Sadly, that game would have been WoW for me this generation.
 
I have primarily bought used as far back as I can remember. It has always been a rare occasion to get a game the day it comes out for me. Almost every PS2 game I have ever owned was either bought used or came free from somebody else (keep in mind, however, that I didn't buy my first PS2 until 2006 - incidentally, that same PS2 just died a month ago).

It's never been about "getting a new game for $10 cheaper" for me, it's always about "I missed it the first time and now it's years later so I might as well buy used".

The only brand new games I get these days are review copies, and those are very much few and far between.
 
I buy used ALOT. Probably...70% of the time. I don't buy at Gamestop though, always Amazon. Never had a problem.

It's more because right now I've been buying games I missed (I was kinda out of gaming for about a year and half), not that I don't wanna buy new.

Metroid Other M and Halo Reach and all the new stuff this fall will be bought new, for example.
 
Usually when I find a game I want but for cheaper used..

Usually off Amazon, but I have found a few gems in my local gamestation
 
Cheaper, out of print, in good condition (the latter is surprisingly common at local GS stores.) Most of my stuff is brand-new.

Of course... I get a lot of stuff for review these days, too... so the ratio has swung quite a bit. But even before I started in on that, that was pretty much my M.O.

Not so much when I was making half as much as I do now and just starting out. Then, the pendulum was definitely the other way.
 
Not much any more I pick up most things new now, last gen I think most of my games were used unless I bought them when they had just come out.
 
Rarely. If I want to play a game that is a few years old and don't want to spend much I'll usually just go grab a copy at GS for $15.
 
Only games I have bought used were Final Fantasy 7, and Zone of the Enders: The Second Runner.



Other then that, maybe a GBA game for a road trip...
 
Well I import almost all of my games so it's new for me!

With the games that I do get domestically, I prefer to get them new unless I can't find it anywhere. Stuff that I buy from previous generations is obviously used though.
 
Very rarely. Have traded for a few on Goozex but never bought any games used.

Did my first trade-in yesterday though. Amazon gave me 28$ for FIFA 10. Considering that I bought it from them new at 35$ (last Black Friday I think), couldn't resist.

So... I have fed the machine. :lol
 
Only for old ass games that are hard to find. When I bought my 360 for the first time a couple months ago, a bunch of games I wanted were long out of print so I had to hunt down used copies. Even then I was super careful about the condition of the used games I was buying when doing so, buying from ebay/amazon marketplace.
 
I rarely buy used games. I do however buy most of my new games at discounted prices, since there aren't any games I need day 1 anymore.
 
Pretty much never for current gen stuff but I mostly buy PC games so....

All of the games I buy for older systems are second hand of course.
 
I used to buy a lot of used games for my PS2 but I barely play it nowadays. Now all of my gaming is done on the PC, and there are few used games offered for it, so I just get them off Steam at used game prices.
 
I always buy the newer games I want on day 1. Like 4-5 a year. Next up is NHL 11.

Over the past year I have been buying cheap, used, and easy achievement and trophy games in the hopes of playing them. I have a backlog of about 10-15 I need to go through.

Only once and that's because the brand new copy (which was more than a year old) was the same price as a brand new game.
 
The only time I buy used games is for old stuff I can't track down. Most of the time I buy the games I want day one or otherwise watch the Steam/Canada sales threads to see if something I want less goes down. I would probably buy used games more if I had an easy way to monitor used game prices.

That being said, I have nothing against the used trade, and I have been trying to offload most of my collection to Gamestop/directly to people over the last few months.
 
current gen games are usually new for me.

LAST gen games I didn't get around to purchasing the first time around (or bought, sold, and now want back) are almost exclusively used, for obvious reasons. Right now my game purchases are split between new stuff and old stuff 50/50 for me.
 
I probably buy around 20 used games a year, depending on the system. Most of what I buy used now are old PS2 and Xbox games I missed out on. I'll buy a handful of used games for the new systems as most stuff I'm really interested in, I'll buy new. Here's a breakdown:

I own:

90 360 games, 19 are used.
85 PS3 games, 14 are used.
35 Wii games, 14 are used.

So a bulk of my games are new, though not all were bought at the original MSRP. Some were greatest hits/platinum buys, others were bombas.

When I have time, I'll count my PS2, Xbox and GC collections but those numbers will be skewed since a bulk of the used games I bought were at the end of system life. Used PS2 games are dirt fucking cheap too.
 
New releases that I'm very excited for I'll buy new, but if a game is six or more months old I tend to buy it used (I'm your traditional broke -art- college student). Yeah, I feel bad if it's a developer I like and would otherwise want to give my money to, but hey, that money I save goes towards, y'know, food and art supplies. So...yeah.

Sometimes if it's a game I'm not crazy excited for but a developer I really respect and want to support I'll still buy it new. ODST was an example of this, not a game I felt was worth $60 but I bought it new simply out of my respect for Bungie.

This is exactly what I do.

Thanks to Amazon I haven't paid $60 for a new game in a long time. They're almost always cheaper by a few dollars, free shipping (love Prime), no tax, and I'm constantly getting $10 and $20 promo credits towards future games.
 
I usually only buy used games when there is some sort of deal attached with them (buy 2 get 1, etc.). Every once in a while I do buy games that I am renting from gamefly because of some of the deals they have so I guess that would count as buying a used game as well.
 
I'm much more than 50% used. I only pay full price for a game when it's released if I know it'll bring me months/years of joy (COD/Halo) or if I'm super excited and it looks awesome (Mirror's Edge).

Everything else can wait; it makes no difference to me if I wait 10 months for a release date and buy day 1 for $60 or wait a few more months and get it super cheap used or new (but still super cheap).

I also like that I can return games that suck if I buy them used. I'm picky...I'm not impressed by much these days and don't have time to play everything that looks ok so I'd rather play and beat the best games for me and return the ones that I don't click with.

So roughly 90% used.
 
In last generation I mostly bought used... now I mostly buy discounted games and such, only NEW game I have bought this gen has been MW2

I would say its about a 50 / 50 split. On the 360 side if it isn't a game I have to buy day one and I buy 6-12 months down the road, then I'm definitely buying it used off eBay or Amazon. Similar situation on the PC side, if it's not day one then I'll wait for a STEAM sale.
 
Very rarely nowadays. I want some of my money to go to the people who created the game.

I bought the PS3 version of RE 5 used from Gamestop and then bought the DLC since the Gold edition was overpriced at $50. (I had already bought it new on the PC for $45 from Steam at launch in September.) I think that's the only current-gen game I've bought used.
 
I buy new, mostly. The ONLY time I buy used is during gamefly sales because they are REALLY good sometimes. Most of the time, I buy day 1 if its a title Im really looking forward to, or I wait until it drops (like Lost Planet 2 - $19.99 at Newegg! and Splinter Cell Conviction $19.99 (15 with Reward Zone coupon) at Best Buy).
 
The only games I buy new are Day1 games, which is about twice a year. Other than that, it's discounted but not new, or 6 months old and used.

Last gen though, a new game everytime.
 
Never. I hate the idea of whoever owned the game before me being some scummy filthy bastard who didn't know how to take care of his shit. My games are in their cases, with their manuals, scratch-free and organized.

The few games I've bought used over the years (probably less than 5) were games that were out of print that I knew probably sucked but wanted to give the benefit of the doubt. For example, Morrowind. Bought it for $5, paid $5 too much. Case was filthy too, so I just threw it away. I don't want that shit scumming up my collection.
 
Personally, barely. I usually buy games new, because I don't like waiting around once they come out. If I say wait a month or two after a game that I'm interested comes out, I'll usually lose interest in it due to something else I'm playing.

That's kind of excessive lol. I have no problem paying the standard $50 for current gen Nintendo games, but I lack the dedication and wallet to buy brand new GC games.:lol

I'd usually buy the GC games used unless they have them at a low enough price in new condition. I think I actually bought quite a few GC games last year that were brand new just so I'd be sure that they wouldn't break midgame.
 
I buy new games from stores and used games from forums. I would never buy used from a store since they cost almost as much as the new ones.
 
On release I always buy games new.

After release I pretty much always buy used.

I also sell every game I buy (only game I've kept besides digital stuff is Demon's Souls).

For the last year or so about 30% of what I buy has been games on release, the rest games considerably after their release date.
