how relevant would a Switch MARIO GOLF game be for you?

You're right, I don't care for a 3DS like one for more than £20. Put in an RPG mode and I will really, REALLY care though.

With Everybody's Golf on the way I can't say I'd care that much about a new Mario Golf. Although if it had the RPG elements of the GBA version I'd buy it on day one.

I'd rather nintendo concentrated on New IP, sure fire hits..or at least have Mario doing something different...... than new iterations of Mario Tennis or Golf. I'd be fine if they skipped Mario party for a generation as well.

I just feel there's little new they can do with those titles. They have been done to death.

I actually wonder if an IP like Splatoon or Pikmin might be better used if they want to do a tennis or golf game. Ink on the ground could alter ball movement in interesting ways in a Splatoon sports game..or you could physically hit Pikmin instead of golf balls/tennis balls with the type of Pikmin used altering how the game plays.

the 3DS Mario Golf kind of bombed. i don't see a future for that sport unless they make a bigger sequel to Mario Sports Superstars and expand each individual sport so that it's as big as they were on individual releases (that game felt like a demo for each sport)

they can still sell some sports standalone such as Soccer but Golf seems like it doesn't sell enough to release on its own. a pack with Tennis+Golf+Baseball with all 3 sports as packed as in their most content packed installments (RPG modes for Tennis and Golf and career mode like in the Mario Baseball games for GC and Wii) would be a decent way to sell them (it's not like Baseball and Tennis need that many level design and character models can be reused for all 3)

Mario Golf on 3ds was pretty great, the course designs were a lot better than the realistic take they went for with the Gamecube courses.

Golf doesn't need a story mode as much as Tennis does since you have so many possible game modes, I spent countless hours on Mario Golf 64 and that doesn't have any form of story, but unlocking characters and chasing Birdie Badges was a great time.

So if Golf was announced I would be in, Tennis on the other hand needs more convincing if there isn't any Story Mode.

Not much. I wasn't very good at Mario Golf 64, so I never bothered with the sequels.

I'd much prefer a new Mario Tennis with as much to do as Mario Power Tennis. Sadly, Nintendo doesn't agree and instead gives us hollow shells like Mario Tennis Open and Ultra Smash.

The old Mario Gold and Tennis and Golden Sun were so good. What happened to Camelot?

I know, the 3DS games are not bad, but they aren't fantastic either like the stuff in the past. They all felt rushed, especially the Wii U game.

Extremely relevant to my interests.

Specifically a new version of 3DS's Mario Golf: World Tour with improved online simultaneous tournament play. It was truly well made for 3DS and they could definitely improve it for Switch.

The 3DS Mario Golf looked good, was as fun as it always is, and had a lot of courses (especially with the DLC).

But I definitely preferred playing the GBA one with the great RPG mode. Since with was Camelot and used their Golden Sun engine, it felt and sounded like I was playing a new Golden Sun game, just with golfing instead of battling. (I played it a long time after it came out so it felt really good to play something in the Golden Sun engine)

Those are the only two Nintendo Sport games I've played, so I always look for them to have a deep single player before buying them (Mario Gold was part of that Humble bundle I think, I wouldn't have gotten it otherwise). I'd probably just end up buying Mario Tennis GBA or the GBC games instead of getting any modern Mario Sport games if they keep leaving out meaty single player content.

That Golf RPG that's coming out on the Switch looks pretty solid. Another case of indie devs filling the void Nintendo leaves when they don't make stuff a chunk of their audience wants (Axiom Verge with the lack of Metroid, an ever increasing amount of futuristic racers with no F-Zero, etc.)

If it's at least as good as World Tour, I'd bite. I'd love for the RPG mode to return, but I'm not as attached to it as some others, since there's still a ton of content.

Seems like the Mario sports games have gotten progressively more hollow after the Gamecube/GBA games. I really wish we'd get another installment like the GBA/GBC Mario Golf/Tennis games, complete with a story mode. I have little interest in the games otherwise.

Very relevant...an RPG mode would be great. Mario Golf 3DS was a hidden gem on that platform, I totally agree with the OP. It had tournaments and online play and it did all of them very well, while getting no credit for it. I'm in on Mario Golf Switch.

I have 0 faith in Camelot anymore. The games have been the bare minimum at most.

what exact camelot games have been disappointing in the last 5 or so years?

I often read they've lost their edge but the last camelot game I played was Mario golf 3DS (hence, the thread) and I think they are as good as ever.

It's one of the things I'm looking forward to most.

I never played any of the other Mario Golf games prior to the 3DS so I don't have dogs in that particular hunt, but the 3DS version is one of my favourite 'kill 5 minute' games.

It's one of the few titles that I've bought DLC for as I really felt I got my money's worth with the extra courses.

Plus its one of the only competitive games where I've enjoyed anything close to success!

Honestly, I also want to see a new Wii Golf motion control version using the joycons!

They should be using those resources for Mario Strikers 3 instead.

Agree.

Nice work!

Not at all.

But I don't play golf or sport games so that's a given.

There was a time I did play some golf games but it was simmy pc games.

World Tour was an amazing game - loved the DLC packs, too.

Would kill for a similarly content-rich Switch Mario Golf.

I'd rather see Nintendo let Camelot do something of their own with a decent budget and actual time to make it. Having the guy who directed Golden Sun and Shining Force II make something as bad as Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash is a tragedy.

3DS iteration was fantastic, with a great Season Pass, I think I may have even listed it as my GOTY. Would love a Switch iteration.

Love Mario Golf, Tennis and Strikers.

I'd be down with turning Wii Sports into Mii Sports and then releasing a Mario Sports Compilation with deeper games. I might even get over my disappointment at not getting a proper FIFA.

Not very. I'm not as interested in playing the whole breadth of Nintendo's output like I was on the Wii/DS and WiiU/3DS so I'll probably only be buying the really big stuff like Mario Odyssey, Kirby, etc and the fresh stuff like ARMS and Splatoon. Mario Sports and the like I'd probably pass on. Hell, I probably won't even grab the next Smash unless Simon makes it in.

Mario Golf 3ds is decent, but it's way, way too barebones without the DLC. It's a really poor package without it, feels like content was stripped from the game. And as for the gameplay, the putting is just too easy. Everybody's Golf is a significantly better game.

But I love these games in general, so I'd be there day 1 if there was enough content. Stop it with the gimmick 9-hole courses and make proper 18 hole ones like the DLC was.

GIMME! Love Mario golf. If they improve on the 3DS version, even better. I might be mis-remembering it, the 3DS one had good online features but the solo/story mode was really short.
