How would you rate the quality of Netflix's library?

It's alright I guess. Whenever I have a craving for a specific movie, 80% of the time they don't have it. Maybe I'm just weird with my movie tastes.

I finally canceled my Netflix account after wringing my hands over its poor selection of quality movies and TV shows. If it was generic or totally forgettable film then you'll most likely find it on Netflix.

I find the quality of their library extremely poor and not worth the ten bucks a month. Maybe I'll try Hulu Plus now.

Most of today's the new movies are generic or totally forgettable, but all the movies they release from the '70s to the '90s are almost always worth the $10/mo alone.

Hulu & Amazon are behind Netflix in that.

Their TV selection is also huge, even if you were to watch just 3 series, it would last you for months, unless you marathon them.

It's decent, but I haven't really been watching much of anything lately, so I might just cancel.

I'm still wondering why they only have up to season 8 of Law and Order :/

There is actually a pretty good selection of independent and foreign films.

It's not just all B movies on Netflix.

It has some good documentaries and stuff, which is what I mostly use it for. I wish it had more of the BBC documentaries about WWII. The Hiroshima and Auschwitz BBC productions were pretty good, but that's all they have. My girlfriend likes it for MST3K and Dinosaurs. I would give it a solid B, I just wish they added stuff more frequently.

And the search function FUCKING SUCKS! They need to update that or something.

I really like it but I'm english and using a US account to catch up on things I missed like the office, breaking bad and parks and rec

I just really wish it had the HBO content

I just wish that I didn't feel so guilty about watching Netflix on my PS3, whereas with XBL it feels that much more exclusive.. Maybe it's a crazy hope and dream, but perhaps the PS4 will pay wall Netflix, it's just too awesome to only pay &5 a lathe.

They obviously won't, because Sony are on a roll, apart from the Vita.

While the selection isn't the best, I don't think it's bad at all. If you want new releases, Netflix's streaming service is not for you.
And their selection of TV shows seems to consist of 90% canceled/failed series and the rest are actually still on the air.
That is hardly true.
Their "High Definition" is somewhere below cable TV quality and I don't see much definition at all.
Also not true. At the highest level, the quality is better than HD cable, at least in my area.

At any given time it has like 10% of the top movies that we're in theaters the last decade. :|

It passes 9$ a month worth of content tho. Bunch of stuff I wouldn't have watched without it.

I've watched the available seasons for all of the following shows:

Terriers
Scrubs
How I Met Your Mother
The Walking Dead
Transformers: Beast Wars
Transformers: Prime
Dawson's Creek
Dollhouse

Plus a bunch of random episodes of a lot of different shows, plus the occasional movie.

The cost for all the DVDs (as in, purchasing them, even used) for all of the above would be significantly greater than the cost I paid for the few years I've had Netflix streaming. So, I'd give it an "A" for now. Totally worth it.

I rate it very high. For what I pay it's an absolute steal. Never understood people who couldn't find anything to watch on there. I have a 150+ queue of shows I want to watch.

I'd give it a B-

For me, I don't tend to use all too much for trying to find movies, but use it more as a means of browsing. They always have things that I may not have been looking to watch, but am interested in watching or have been meaning to see. I also don't follow a lot of current programming (the only shows I tend to follow as they air are Breaking Bad and Walking Dead, but I just catch those on my TV) so them not being as up to date as Hulu doesn't really bother me. It also feels like Hulu's strong suit is their NBC shows, which I don't tend to follow anyway.

As far as TV, Netflix has a lot of my favorites actually: Peep Show, Spaced, Shin Chan, Archer, South Park, Arrested Development, etc. If they managed to get classic Simpsons on there, that'd be great though.

nah it's not just you, this is a running joke between my girlfriend and I; whenever we actually want to watch something specific, Netflix NEVER has it.

Awful. I don't know if there is a significant difference between Netflix Canada and Netflix US, but here in Canada I swear they add like 2 new movies a month.

And yes, 80% of the time netflix does NOT have the movie I'm looking for.

I would rate it 5/10

Selection has gotten much better, but it depends on what you're expecting for such a dirt cheap service. I'd give it a B

I fucking love Netflix! I have seen so many great movies I would have never given a chance. I have been using them for 5 years and still love it. Their new website can suck my balls though.

Netflix Canada is pretty rough. TV selection is decent but movies leaves a lot to be desired. Decent price though, and there doesn't seem to be any better services up here so I'll be sticking with it for the time being.

that's the same position I'm in. I watched season 1-4 of Mad Men, Season 1 of Walking dead and a few other things. Worth it. Only JUST worth it though.

blows my mind that people don't think it's worth the 8 bucks. Just one season of most of the tv shows would cost me more than that. And none of the other streaming services have more content in their library.

An amazon + Netflix combo is also pretty solid.

I really like the selection, but i have fairly wide ranging taste and am willing to try new shows. It has the entire run of Larry Sanders so it's hard to beat that.

It's a shame there aren't more options, but I don't see Hulu or Amazon Prime expanding here any time soon. HBO Go is apparently launching on mobile platforms before the year's end though, so that's something.

To give an example, in UK;

- Scrubs only has the first three seasons... despite the rest being fairly old and, I imagine, easy to acquire.

- It's not like we have exclusive UK content to brag about; We have the first three series of Doctor Who, while the US have all six current modern series, as well as a huge back catalogue of classic episodes. Same goes for Torchwood.

- The movies are just... well good god, the movies. You have the Disney mockbusters like Finding Fish and Toy Tales, then you have random sequels to films (Iron Man 2) without the original! I mean on what planet is it okay to have Blues Brothers 2000 but not BB? On what unholy, heathen planet?!

- A lot of this is due to licensing deals with TV channels in England, I imagine (How I Met Your Mother for example, is loaned exclusively to E4, though they criminally underuse it)

I don't know how okay it is to talk about VPN changing on GAF, but honestly if you're going to pay £72 a year for a service that promises so much and, in merry old England, delivers so little, you'd be stupid not to.

But it's okay really, because they have the complete 90's animated Spiderman.

<3

The UK selection is awful but I've decided to give it a shot as there are several films I want to watch.

You can get US stuff for free using a DNS changing program. Can't remember the name but ill post it tomorrow.

I'll keep it until I've watched everything I want.

For your info, season 2 of The Walking Dead is being added to the netflix selection on September 30!

Everyone use this to find shit, their primary interface is terrible:

It seems like whenever I think of movie new or old that I want to watch I load up Netflix and it's not there.

I also have Hulu Plus and Amazon Video courtesy of subscribing to Prime. I rate them all about the same. Netflix does have more Movies (mostly B movies though)

In total I pay 15 bucks a month for streaming video services. It's not really too expensive and I enjoy the ease of watching something, when what I want to watch is available.

Netflix Canada is alright. Needs more tv though. You guys are mentioning Terriers, HIMYM, Dr Who. It just got new Community, that was cool.

I really am annoyed that we still only have the first 3 Sherlock episodes.

I think its great. You have to look at it from the right perspective though. You have to look at what they have with an open mind instead of expecting them to have the one movie or show you are looking for at a certain time.

I use it all the time. There's always something to watch. I think you have to love movies, not just blockbusters.

I haven't had Netflix for about six months, but in my previous experience:

If you approach Netflix streaming from the perspective of "I want to watch Movie X," you're inevitably going to be disappointed. There's just no way they could charge 8 bucks for a library with the kind of selection that people expect. But if you approach it from an open perspective and work with what's on there, you'll find countless gems that you probably never expected.

Getting to watch Louie, Breaking Bad and Friday Night Lights made the service worth it for me again after months of disappointment. I noticed they must have worked out some deal with Paramount because a bunch of their movies that were only on Amazon appeared on there. Face/Off, bitches!

I think it's excellent. I guess I don't watch as much TV as most people (a few hours per week, and probably no more than one hour per night), but I have so much shit in my queue that I genuinely want to see. It will take me a long, long time to get through it all — providing, of course, Netflix doesn't remove it first!

Yep, pretty much what I stated earlier as well. I think those that don't like Netflix USA don't like it because they already have a list of films they're wanting to see and are let down that they don't have many of them. If you're willing to just browse their selection I'm sure most people will find a ton of films and shows that they're interested in, but never got around to checking out.

I'd probably use Amazon more for this, too, but their interface on PS3 sucks. Last time I checked they didn't have any real sortable categories, you could only scroll left and right and instead of lumping all seasons of a show under the show's name they'd break them up into individual selections (and most times not even group those selections together). For $8, Netflix is a steal IMO.

Thats how I use it. I go browsing for something interesting, and usually find something I have never heard of and enjoy. Also, I keep it out of loyalty to Netflix, for bringing back Arrested Development. If that turns out even just "good", I will never cancel my account as long as I can afford it.

It's been steadily declining. Seems like I've been having more luck with Prime and my cable's On Demand. I will cancel Netflix before it renews.

Unless they get something big, like an arrangement with HBO, then I think they are doomed to slowly bleed subs to Amazon until they become irrelevant.

The one thing that was very disappointing was how of short time the James Bond library was available (which stopped at Licence to Kill, I believe), but the Bond 50 Blu-ray set is out in less than a week.

Edit: Btw, and I can't believe I forgot this, the fact that the ESPN 30 for 30 catalog is available on there. Goddamn. Even if you aren't into sports, I'm sure you'd find something great in them.

Considering I missed out on like 5 years worth of American TV while I lived in Japan (2005-2010), Netflix streaming is godly for me.

Thanks to Netflix I've gotten caught up on great shows like Doctor Who, Torchwood, Archer, and more.
Plus I actually watched the entire 11 season run of Married...With Children earlier this year which was pretty epic, haha.

I love watching B-movies too so I think all the old sci-fi/horror movies on there are pretty great too.

At $2 a week it deserves an A. And I'm just talking about the TV portion of the catalog.

The service has hoards of great content, Netflix just seems hellbent on forcing user to explore it all in the shittiest ways possible. The website, the IOS & Android apps, the console apps while all usable, feature some scatterbrained design choices. Ass backwards, even.
