But apps make or break a tablet. I wasn't convinced that the first gen iPad was worth the 300 bucks I spent, until I got Reeder, Manga Rock Unity, Flipboard and the MyMovies companion app. now I'm using this thing every single day, since I got it in April.

The TouchPad however has nothing.
Not everyone cares about apps.

Trust me people, for $99 you would use this shit every day. It's too convenient for all that you can do.

It's a $399-499 piece of hardware ffs lol.

Even with no apps it's still worth it IMO.

It got flash too! Jesus don't forget that lol... Doubles as a photo frame too..

how is the horsepower in it? if honeycomb ever makes it way to it, will it handle it properly or be a jaggy mess?

Quite a fucking bit slower than Mobile Safari on the iPad 2 and even the poor single core 800MHz iPhone 4. The Javascript performance on this thing is absurdly horrible.

*order canceled*

j/k, but I've been reconsidering ever since I got the confirmation on the order. I hate being so indecisive about shit! If I'm going to give this to someone as a gift, I'd want it to perform well, not have long boot-up times, lag, and no support

I've owned 3 ipads, including an ipad 2.. and I don't think the touchpad's browser is that much slower. Could be because I enabled dev mode and have a lot of performance tweaks enabled and have the tablet running a custom kernel OC'ed to 1.5ghz, though :)

Really? That's all I would want one for. If the browser is slow, then screw that, I'll just keep using my Droid X.

The browser is a bit slower than Honeycomb but it is more stable (but when it does crash, you get the "dead spins" and it reloads the page you are on, whereas on Honeycomb the browser closes suddenly and you lose your place in wherever you were)

I recently reverted my Transformer to HC 3.1 but when I was on 3.2 the browser felt slower (about the same speed as the TouchPad) to be honest (as far as scrolling while the page is loading and seeing the checkerboarding/gray space as it renders)

The TouchPad however has nothing like that, except a browser that is flash capable.

In a broad sense, I agree, but as someone who doesn't currently own a tablet and would just like a cheap web browser to replace (or at least reduce the use of) my netbook, this is a nice buy.

It's the latest generation Qualcomm SOC chip(one of which) Microsoft is working against for developing Windows 8.

It's guaranfuckingteed. Like the HD2 snapdragon.
That would be cool, but someone has to retrofit it.

Will someone take on the project? who knows, mang. I wouldn't simply assume it will happen. But do you. It's a small investment either way...but it's not like the used ones will be more than $100 next year when Win8 is out, you know?

I expect it to happen. Really once the chipset makes it to other tablets, all the low level stuff will make it even more plausible. It's not like it's no name chipset that inside the touchpad.

I'm picking one up tomorrow morning, it'll either be a badass HC or an Windows tablet for $100 or a $100 web browsing tablet. Win/Win

HP: Here are some $100 tablets in case you don't believe us.

like many im tempted to buy at $100, mainly want it for reading, does it allow import of epub and like cbz files?

Dunno about epub. I think there's a homebrew app that supports them but it might be a Mojo app (so it will run in a tiny window). I just bought a comic reader (the only comic reader, actually) for 2 bucks and it doesn't support file management or bookmarking and I have to reboot my TouchPad every time I add a comic to it.

I don't think I can forgive you for this, Coperdickus.

Dunno about epub, but there's a Kindle app, and ComicShelf HD handles .cbr and .cbz files.

Welcome to the future, dream.

I just saw a commercial for Nintendo 3DS for $170.

Surreal.

You'll be able to put Windows 8 on this thing. Buy it.

I kinda doubt it.... if we know I would for sure but it as a windows 8 beta device (don't have a pc with a touchscreen to test w8 on so this would be very interesting to me) but the hardware looks like it would not run w8 very well (if it is even possible).

I didn't even think about putting windows 8 on this ... Interesting. But getting a legit license could be a problem. I doubt that you'll be able to buy the ARM version.

Look, I admit I'm spoiled by the embarrassment of riches that is the iOS App Store. But goddamn am I using some backwards basic bare bones bullshit on my TouchPad. Comic readers that don't bookmark, Google Reader clients that don't mark articles as read...I hate you Coperdickus.

I think your online sarcasm detector is broken...

My Asus 1000H ram windows 7 pretty damn good the day I bought it. I have no doubts that the latest qualcomm chips will run Windows 8 that's optimized for them in an unbelievable manner.

[real talk] I'm not being sarcastic or flippant about putting Windows 8 on the touchpad [/realtalk]

I'm frothing at the mouth. The prospect of walking into a store and picking one of these up tomorrow for a bill is making me salivate profusely.

Considering legacy Mojo apps are basically HTML and Javascript, Palm's inability to fucking pixel double them on the TouchPad shows you how much thought went into this thing.

I am more concerned with the screen resolution (1024x768 will not let you use the snap multitasking... gotta have 1366x768) and ram (1 gig is the min for w8).

I picked one of these up today at the local Staples.. $99 Canadian plus taxes.

Initial thoughts: It's a good device for $99. Not $399.. The browser seems a bit on the sluggish side, but manageable. I really like the card task switching aspect of this.

I figure you can't even get a knock off China made tablet for this price, so why not right?

Managed to play 1080p MOV trailers just fine.

I almost ordered one at giga's link. then I realized I have 2 superior tablets already.

Enjoy guys.

Hmm..didn't think about the resolution. Touchpad has a gig of ram plus flash storage so that should be find. SSD/Flash drive do wonders for W7.

Did you buy anther android tablet to keep your nook company?

=)

I'm almost willing to buy this thing at $100, but then I remember I have an iPad that sits on my office desk collecting dust for months now unless I have to use it for some work related testing. I guess I really have no use for these devices. Still, $100... maybe I can just give it as a present to mu parents or something. Is there a Skype or some of other teleconferencing app for it?

I'm going to best buy when they open in the morning. As a backup plan there is a Staples in the same shopping center. Tech Crunch listed both of these stores as selling for $99 so I hope I can get one :/
