So they can tell their friends they bought them for 100 off Amazon.

I laughed.

Did anyone get charged by BB.com yet?

They charged me immediately after placing my order (which worryingly was after they went out of stock, but I was already in the checkout process), and order status now says "In Process" and cannot be cancelled.

I took that to mean that they ship it by tomorrow, but I'm slightly worried...

Android manufacturers cannot sell at a loss because everyone buys their apps/games from Google or Amazon. They don't own a store where they can sell stuff to make up the loss. Even then, a customer would need to buy over $300 of apps just for Google to make $100 from it's 30% cut of sales. And most of that money usually goes to upkeep of servers, paying for reviewers, editors' picks, etc.

WAT. Stop the planet, I want off.

I'm surprised that people decided to do the online thing with Best Buy. When I went to Best Buy today, the guy said that it was first come, first serve and online purchases/reservations wouldn't be honored (if you were there to pick it up).

Then again, my Best Buy only had 5 left (I got #4) so maybe it depends on their inventory.

Well, for Amazon and Apple, they review all apps beforehand for bugs, malware, etc. That requires paying staff.

Local CL ad:

Stop selling overpriced HP Touchpads Touchpad

Middle class ripping off the middle class.. No wonder this country is jacked. These units are only worth $50-$99, and an idiot would pay more. For everyone who wants one, wait 6months after the inflated prices reside.

will hp.com orders be honored?

I was going to post this yesterday but couldn't find the link and didn't want to put out incorrect info:

SMB site incorrect on TouchPad inventory. NO stock. #glitch

Last night when BB.com changed their policy on this I got an in-store pickup arranged for a store about 60 minutes roundtrip driving from my house. Got the confirmation email today. Went in to the store and got my 16 GB no problem, discount adjusted and all. Currently setting it up.

Wouldn't have been possible without NeoGAF! Thanks amigos.

It's Sunday though. I'm waiting until end of tomorrow before I give up on my Future Shop order.
I missed every Amazon sale, and I helped my friend obtain one.

Ah well. I suppose I'm too altruistic.

They sure don't mind charging me and submitting my order through. I've seen the order get processed, sent to management and now order going through, with shipping date and everything.

Weird! Mines has been Pending ever since I ordered it. No cancellation emails either. It also says in my order status that it's in process. I feel like it's going to be cancelled.

I still think there's a good chance of them just canceling a ton of orders right before they'd potentially ship them. " Time to ship out these orders.......oh we don't have any cancel cancel cancel"

I am probably going to buy a touchstone full price. If they drop the price, good for me, otherwise no big deal.

Bluetooth kb and custom case will have to wait for a sale.

My wife really wants a Veer, so I hope those get discounted. If Pre 3s ever become available, I will probably pick one up.

They should just put the orders on the next batch if they really don't have them in stock.

too bad having potentially 500k Touchpads thrusted onto the market still probably won't get any Apps made or invested in for all the new owners. :(

HP should have gone the Google route and licensed out WebOS, courted devs to make phones for them for heavily discounted royalties.

Did you get a pick-up available email or did you call after you got the "item not found" email?

Ordered one last night for in-store when it was briefly up at 3am PST and just not an item not found email this morning. >___>
I did get the pick-up available notice. They had them waiting for me when I got to the store :)

The price was already adjusted too, which was nice.

Like I said, I've been charged for three others I also ordered and decided to cancel. When they get my cancellation note, Im sure you will still be able to get one if you got your order in.

Haha - I think we crossed paths this morning. :O

You mean the CC charge is pending? I don't actually know if my card was actually charged or if it was only an authorization hold (my online statement doesn't update in real-time), but I get a txt on my phone once a transaction is initiated and that's what I was referred to. I assumed it was like Amazon, they don't charge or authorize the payment amount on your card until they are ready to ship.

It'd be ironic if BB cancels my orders since I sold the one I got from Amazon :/

Well, there's hope I guess. I hope other people cancelled too.

Hopefully this means everyone gets their tablets.

Nothing charged in my card at all. I paid through Paypal, and they say the order is still Pending.

I went with B&N at full price and hoping for a PM on Monday. Also ordered 2 at HP SBM but no idea if thats going through. My cousin also has 2 from OD, but no confirm yet. I think thats all Im gonna do to cover my bases.

This happened sooner than I thought:

I think HP is taking the android solution for it's rightful inevitable domination a step further. Just give it away both hardware and software.

That has to work right?

That's okay though, just another one one to feed crow to, through my crow feeding webapp that's half html, half flash, and a quarter native code that you will all enjoy on your webOS based devices in 2012.

online purchases/reservations wouldn't be honored

Apparently this is, but obviously shouldn't be legal to do. I wonder how many hundreds or thousands of people tried to go pickup their Touchpad that they ordered and were charged for at Best Buy this morning or afternoon but were rebuffed because Best Buy doesn't care about ethics or their policies or other nonsense like that.

I was trying to just get one of these last night (not trying to flip them for profit that some people are trying to do) and I tried to order on Best Buy's website, said they were available at a store close by to me, but after I ordered I got a email about 15 minutes later saying nahhh bro the website is wrong and there is actually none at that store. THEN Best Buy charges me for $432 for a phantom product I have never seen and that hold won't go away for an entire 8 days unless I waste more of my time and call them so I can sit on hold for however many hours to get it refunded.

I've seen this thread for almost 2 full days now I think, but why is the thread title still wrong? The press release says explicitly "However, HP will keep the WebOS software business." The title could say if nothing else that hardware alone is discontinued, but software side certainty isn't.
