No, this is pretty off. It's referring to a specific moment in time, basically the early- to mid-00's. This site specifically is just whatever misfit kids with colored hair, so you're kind of on point there, but it's pretty far from the truth to say that "scene" wasn't a thing. It's a very 00's specific thing, and it'll be clearer to all who weren't anywhere near it as time goes on.

It refers to the turning point where peacock haircuts, white belts, tight pants, and terms like "fashioncore" became the most crucial components to a very large, very vacuous punk-related subculture. It's not the first style over substance punk movement, but it was certainly the largest, and it is very much time stamped and not something that will be returned to until the inevitable 10 year time lapse when some of the styles will be re-absorbed by a new generation of misguided teenagers.

This is some pretty good context of what I'm talking about, and where it came from.

I started high school in an Illinois suburb, then sidestepped all this a year and a half in when I moved to a college town (where generally, the youth is a little too culturally savvy to fall into this sort of thing). So I'm very aware of this stuff, and the contrast between various emo/punk/hardcore subcultures, and the "scene" thing.
So then I will have to tell my kids I group up during this scene nonsense. Must have been awesome to grow up during the 60s, 70s, and/or 80s.

at least you won't have to explain to your kids that you actually were DOING IT.

Yeah, GAF. It's cool if we bust their chops because we've allll been there.

Shit, I'm sure we all have some real horror stories, ourselves.

Bring on more! More I say! Their tears...please me...

Yes! Anyone that hasn't definitely should. I love it.

aw shit I really liked the film! The characters were really fun especially Sgt. Hugo Stiglitz lol. Ending was a bitter sweet realization. All these sort of groups really do amount to nothing at the end.

Dear god if I feel this out of touch at 25 then I'll probably feel like I'm living on an alien planet at 65.
