Explain to me why there is no headline of this on Google News' World section?

Hopes no one is hurt or killed.

Boom, fuego, RIP, Gulf, Soul, ACNF". Fuego = Fire. The ACNF stuff, no clue.

Where are you going?

CabbageRed said:Where is the "no press coverage" angle coming from? A quick Google news search for "Caribbean Gulf Petroleum" brings up a ton of results, some from the BBC and CNN. How much coverage is an explosion supposed to garner?
jamesinclair said:Scroll through the thread, it took around 6 hours for an AP wire story to appear.
CabbageRed said:But how many of those are breaking stories like an explosion story would have been? "There has been an explosion and we don't know what's up" doesn't seem like a story that demands news outlets to fire-up the troops. It's visually spectacular, but why is this explosion a pressing news story of global interest?
If anything, I'm glad we avoided the talking heads talking about possible airplanes that might have crashed and unknown death-tolls and eye witness reports of burnt bodies and UFOs.
jamesinclair said:Ive seen "45 houses are under mandatory evacuation".
How is that news?
Yep..under control, in some way..still...original number was 11 out of 40.Drkirby said:Have any other tanks blown since the fire first started, or have they been able to keep it under control?
So, the fire has been going on for a full 24 hours now too I take it?fernoca said:Yep..under control, in some way..still...original number was 11 out of 40.
Last number was between 15 to 18.
From people around he area:
- The fire seems to be more intense now than yesterday (and higher too).
- Small explosions can be heard every now and then.
- The "jet fuel tank" is sill in danger and the one they are trying to protect the most.
- It has been nearly confirmed that it was indeed a criminal attempt rather than an accident.
- There are twice the amount of firefighters, but few were removed from one of the areas because it's expected another tank could explode at any moment.
Yep, and it's expected to last a few more days too...Drkirby said:So, the fire has been going on for a full 24 hours now too I take it?

Its not like its another state in the US so to be so focused on why there was not quicker coverage 2AM in the morning or the fact its not getting as much attention as say a California wild fire is kind of silly. Some it seems want more screaming headlines with scores dead and missing to make this story bigger than what it is. Get a grip.
If we all band together we can put it out with the power of our hope! Grab the guitar, and we shale start a song of hope, to save those grand people in the small commonwealth of Puerto Rico!DarK SouL said:THIS!
Who the fuck cares if the news is on CNN or not? How is that relevant to anything other than being an attention whore? The people that needs to know already know, is not like anyone can do anything to help put out the fire or something...

I just don't know, they should be able to squeeze out a 15-20 minute segment on it. My only guess is that they can't get anyone over there quickly and have no good way to gather information on it.Ether_Snake said:This is like the one that happened in Toronto.
The media would normally be all over this, but they aren't, just like with the Toronto case.
My guess is the media has been over the years asked not to cover such events too much because it may incite some people. There's no reason why this wouldn't be on the news, yet some surfing-squirrel would be.

Talk about irony on the bold part. Disregarding that sad part though, good news! I do hope we get to find out what was the actual cause of this with an official announcement.fernoca said:Well, it's over!
Around a few hours ago they finally controlled the fire, they are still around in case some spark or soemthing else could reignite the fire, but heck there were videos of the inside ..the aftermatch ..and a press conference detailing things about it.
Over 600 people were evacuated, starting tomorrow the yare going to need to go their houses and then see if tehre were any damages to claim..
What is irnoic in all this is that the incident, there were no death or injures..yet, 16 people were killed ..assassinated (drugs, vengeance, random, etc..) during the weekend.
So yeah, everything seems to be back to normal. Now to wait and see what the investigation reveals, as of right now everything's pointing to a criminal attempt and there are tiplines in place and emails just i ncase people know something about it.
