Honestly this was a guilty pleasure for me too, I find the game more like a parody/satire of the whole japanese hentai VN stuff than anything else, but of course that's just me.
I've actually never seen the first game lol! I'm so gonna stealth install this on the GFs phone. She's going to love it!
Maybe you'll like Gems of War then - it's also an addictive match-3 game with a gameplay twist (in this case, card battles) but with 100% less ugly porn and bad writing

Something either is a parody/satire or it's not, it can't be different things for different people, that's not how parody and satire work. If you like the game you like the game, but the fact that you're trying to find excuses for it says a lot.

I'm not using an excuse, the game is ridiculous, the writing is bad and the art is mediocre... and I enjoyed that. I can use the "so bad it's good" category if you prefer.

Didn't seem that way when they pitched the first game. They seemed pretty serious about making a quality VN/hentai game.
I mean, the game might be a huge joke, but not deliberately by the devs.
While I don't think this game is a parody or a satire, its just one of those games while having criticism of its trappings. At least from what I've seen, all I did was watch a couple of lets plays when the game first came out on jessie cox's channel. So unless it goes down hill from what I saw, its that.
That said though, you are wrong. People interpretate parodies to not be that all the time, and vice versa. Your statement is ignorant of the interpretation of art in general, and more importantly human nature. This just doesn't apply to parodies, sometimes the whole meaning of movies can be whole sale removed if the audience identifies something else with it, just look at scarface.
The idea that it can be different things for different people is ignore that people are different and the reality that is people not seeing things the way you are. I don't really care what hunniepop is or isn't, frankly I don't care. I just wanted to address this

Regardless, the match 3 aspect of the game was really solid, so they made a quality game in that regard at the very least

If I create something with a genuine belief in the truth and rightness in what I'm doing, someone can't then just decide it's a parody, because it's not. If something isn't created as a satire, it isn't a satire. Like how if something is created as a painting, it isn't then up to someone to decide that to them it's a song.
Where you're getting confused is that this isn't about "interpreting" stuff, it's about what stuff literally is. It's not about what something means, it's about what it is.
Advertisers aren't as interested in videogames because of the people playing them, it has jackshit to do with the content of the games.
The game is also better than Bejeweled.

Hopefully they add more to the story and characters this time. I was promised more a VN with puzzle mechanics and there was really no VN to speak of. The best dialog was in a 2 minute YouTube video that everyone saw.
The game needs to have more of that and if someone just wants the puzzle mode just have that as an option as well.

Yeah, they had an actual writer when they pitched it. But he left and... I'm not sure if the lead dev actually decided to turn everything into a joke or still was trying to be serious, but he was so bad it turned out to be kind of funny.
