I admit it: I suck at FPS

Once upon a time I was halfway decent in the genre. I remember having a good ol' time with my Voodoo2 cards, Quake2, etc. I was even good with the original Battlefield. Then something happened: I slowly started to die more often. I think it happened in Battlefield 3, where I really started to suck. I just can't seem to hold my own anymore. Now I just die left and right.

I'm tempted to buy Titanfall, but I don't know how much fun I'll get out of the game.

I think of myself as a decent FPS player but I'm terrible at BF3 and BF4, might be my habit of being on the move a lot. Just practice, all there is to it.

Try PvsZ garden warfare it has some characters easy to get into.
edit: sorry, thats a third person shooter.

I suck at FPS games using a gamepad, it never feels as natural as mouse and keyboard. Main reason I don't bother anymore with FPS console titles unless its multiplatform.

It can still be fun to suck at an FPS, but less so when a team-mate feels let down by your inadequacy and starts making insinuations about your mother.

i suck at fps, but i hate them so it's cool.

i suck at fightning games too, and that's bad because i like them.

Me too, just don't have the concentration for any fast-paced competitive gaming really. When I do get psyched up to try and win I do ok, but that's like one in a hundred games.

I really don't see how people could suck in something like modern CODs. The mechanics are so easily exploitable that anyone should be able to figure them out, which should in return even the playing field making everyone suck equally but I guess not

Who cares... I suck in Blazblue (although I'm rapidatly getting better) and still continue to lose most of the time.
And btw, I dont think games such as COD show skills, and battlefield 3 is too depended on corporation to reach certain goals

Titanfall sounds like the game you need. That or whatever Call of Duty is releasing later this year.

Very easy to jump in and play.

I'm like your literal opposite.

OP, studying the game, in a sense, can help you. Read up on weapon stats and figure out the way things recoil so that you can apply theory to practice. Learn maps; map control and distance control are everything, and if you know the terrain, you know the game. (This applies even to FPSes with shitty maps, like post-WaW COD.) Secretly, my aiming ability is only somewhat above average and yet I can attain ridiculous success at FPSes just by thinking about their mechanics. I suggest you try the same.

I do too.
Man, I remember when I was in 4th grade I use to be really good at CS 1.6, not I struggle to get one kill in any of the games.

;_; I want to get good again

OP, I just played Titanfall on my PC these past few hours since it unlocked in my country and it was some of the best fun I've had in years. I suck at FPSes, especially multiplayer ones plus I was even playing it using a game pad.

Get it, OP.

I tried Killzone SF for a few hours and dominated my servers. Never tried the game before.

I'm godlike in any FPS without altering any settings or practicing. Just wanted everyone to know.

A lot of FPS these days are effectively instagib-style games of who sees who first among a cluttered dirty battlefield and just LT RTing/M2 M1ing.

Oh, and I uhh, suck at games that have RTS-like unit control.

Learn the map

Learn which weapons are the best

Play like a ninja

Edit: and if youre on pc you better be getting 60fps+ with low ping

You're gonna die no matter how good you are... It's about having fun with the game and not get obsessed with K/D ratios. You're never gonna be a pro, like 99.9% of us.

Yeah, well, being that I suck at FPS was one of the reasons why I skipped B4 this time around. I'll probably pick up Titanfall once it's on sale though.

i suck at modern battlefield games purely because the visuals are too detailed lol. Sometimes i get shot by a guy in front of me because i didn't realize he was a dude >.>"

Sight unseen, I guarantee you are better than me.

Just play with chat off and know you can't be any worse than the AI.

I suck the largest amount of balls at FPSs on consoles/using a controller. I just don't like the aiming or turn speed acceleration.

I'm good to very good with KB/M though.

I used to be at least average in Quake 3, UT or CS but people usually wipe the floor with me in those games now so I don't even try.

I consider myself a bit better at CoD or BF as in I can stack up a lot of kills and sometimes even be in the top 3 players in a match but I run around like an idiot, love to sneak in and flank the enemy so I'm usually the one with most deaths in a team. Especially when you consider stuff like K/D ratio, I suck.

I'm also the shitty Scout in TF2 that rushes the intel all the time by brute force, so there's that.

Tried the Titanfall beta, didn't do very well at all to be honest. Not sure what was it, between being auto-pistoled all the time, the grunts averting my attention from pilots mixed with obviously new maps and new gameplay.

So yeah, I dunno OP, I love FPSs but I feel my MP skills have degraded over the years.

I read the thread title and immediately thought, Titanfall. You should buy the game op, the AI enemy is for people like you who need a boost getting into the fight. Plus if you use a controller on the PC, it'll give you a little advantage on coming to grips until you want to switch to m/kb.

Also, maybe you were approaching BF3 from an arena style? Try being more patient and in cover, if you're not topping the leader board it doesn't mean you suck. Titanfall is gonna have a lot of breathing room, so you should be more at home, but it's the same thing. Arena games let you get tagged while modern games really don't due to the speed difference, so just find cover every time you land.

In BlackOps 2 I stopped using primary weapons and only use the default handgun. I do this because I need a challenge, and yet I still come first place. I don't even try.

That's how good I am. Now send me a TitanFall code for Origin and I'll teach you.

I'm all over the place, it totally depends on the game. A few of the CODs I had a 2.0+ kdr (a few I didn't), but I have probably never won a match the few times I tried to get back to Halo MP. Same goes for PC shooters over the years.

On a slightly related note I don't know if I'm just getting old or what but I used to spend 40 hours a week playing COD or whatever, these days I just want to be left alone and finish offline games haha.

Titanfall is a perfect fit for you. The game is made for casual/low skilled players.

Titanfall is n00b friendly with the bots, so you'll be ok
I hopped on the PC beta and was getting completely wrecked. Like i spawn and die not 15 seconds later. Even when i got my mech they had like 3 just waiting to destroy me. Maybe i just drew the short straw and got put against a super stacked team but i didn't have fun with that.

dude Battlefield 3 was just that kind of game, soulless..It sucks the life out of you.
The next one fixed a good deal of those things but also brought along its own set of problems.

If anything though, the older more twitchy PC FPS's demanded more concentration and skill compared to todays FPS's.

I would suggest getting a headset if you don't have one for PC and finding a group of people to strategize and play with. In my experience it helps break the ice when learning a new game, and just keeps things overall more interesting.
Also try and find a handful of good servers with a decent community and active admins, it helps when servers vary so much.

If that don't work maybe switching over to playing FPS's on consoles will help.
Auto aim, smaller player counts, and what seems to be slower paced gameplay when compared to their PC counterparts could help make for a more embracing reintegration.

You're exactly the kind of player that I love playing with. If you're on my team, awesome, you're competent. If you're on the other team, awesome, I have a challenge.

I like to put analog and mouse sensitivity slightly above average, but I'm not one of those mlg pro kids that sets it to 9 or 10.
