I'll start paying next year, I am seriously considering just paying it all away with my savings instead of slowly nudging it away forever despite the low rate of interest. 8000 euros / Finland

Grats, OP.

I've still got about $35,000 to go from my original $60,000+ I graduated with, but for the last 2 years I've been paying an extra $150/month and I'm ahead by about 12 months on one loan and a few months on the other. I hope to be free too in a few years.

German here, we don't need to do student loans ... I'm thinking of doing one so I can live better and enjoy my student years more, but reading the horror stories of Americans kinda scares me off that

Congrats OP! I'll be paying mine until the 2020's, and that's if I don't have any big financial setbacks between now and then.

Congratulations !

Though I can't say I shared your pain as devilish European socialism made my college education almost free.

I totally missed this.

You should get a form in the mail every year telling you how much interest you paid, and yes, there is a credit you should be filling out on your return for it. It's nothing huge, though. I think we got about $400 back this year for it (out of the thousands paid in interest).
I haven't paid any of it back, so it's just accumulating.

I don't think I got anything from it last year, though I did get one for my tuition from my university.

Congratulations OP.

I have to say, I'm jealous. Unless bankruptcy protection is reinstated for student loans I'll never pay mine off. It feels as miserable as it sounds.
