No I mean like going into another forum full of people looking for stuff to latch on to about how shitty the new place will be and making statements like what you made. Maybe wait and observe next time before posting that stuff.

I have no guarantee the new forum will be better...I didn't say it would be.

I just said I'll happily go to any site that provides superior gaming info (if one exists).

I want to use the forum with the best sources and the most news/info. I'll stay on/go to the site that does that...whichever.

The last couple of days, it has been clear that some of the best sources/most prolific news posters have jumped. I either want NeoGAF to jump back to the quality outlet it was for gaming news..or hope this new site takes the crown.

..as it would be a real shame if both NeoGAF and this alternate forum both end up be shadows of what NeoGAF has been as a gaming news source.
 
A ton of people feel the way OP does and don't approve of the way some people account suicided, but can't be bothered to organize their thoughts about the whole thing.

Lots of people are just saying peaceful goodbyes in their community threads. As well as folks just logging out or planning not to visit again without making any deal out of it.

There's also burner accounts around committing account suicide in particularly gross ways that have nothing to do with the group of people that want to distance themselves from EviLore (not that there isn't overlap).

You can't paint with that broad of a brush, and the same goes for the people that are sticking around. I don't begrudge them wanting to see it out even if they continue to unfortunately support EL financially, I just don't feel comfortable with it.

I really enjoyed my time here and loved this community, but mostly lurked. Anyway, I hope tensions cool quickly and everyone, whatever they decide to do, can move forward positively. Good luck to the remaining good faith members of GAF in maintaining the welcoming & progressive atmosphere if that is what you choose to do (I mean that sincerely).
 
The irony of some the vitriol and anger from those upset at what transpired yet posting the most vile shit to get banned. It makes no damn sense.

I have bad news for you then. He requested for his account to be banned. Most content creators and people who actually fostered communities all left.
 
It's kind of sad to see people here hope we can "move on", when that's basically saying "yeah, let's forget the accusation that has happened". Everyone should be interested in having the story actually pan out, and not let it be burried. This isn't to say something happened one way or another, but that anyone should have a genuine interest for the veracity of both sides being checked before hoping that we can "move on". People have a right to be upset, and GAF has a right to ban for it. Posting NSFW stuff and things that people shouldn't have to see is never OK.

For those saying there's a lot of burner accounts suiciding, I'd point to all the legends of GAF that have suicided, too. Are there any big names left?
 
At least the mods aren't hair trigger deleting thoughtful farewell threads now. Not all of them are in spite.

There's a lot of different communities and motives at work here. This site has gained a lot of detractors during it's years. This whole ordeal gave lots of people to finally come in, talk shit and fan the flames of a site they've held a grudge against for so long.

He means when you use Firebug or Chrome developer tools to simply alter the text on a page. You can most likely press ctrl + shift + c and click the text you want to alter in your current browser.

I mean, so many are going to a place that the admins literally blacklisted its name. Also, I think it's pretty bad to think that people have ulterior motives other than proclaim their stance in this case. It trivializes the seriousness of the accusation to an extreme degree.

This post is important to keep in mind for anyone here who is already in the loop and set on migrating.

On the outside, people have absolutely nothing to go on about the new place other than a Twitter hype pic, a few scattered leaks, a bunch of misinformation from people who want to sabotage the move, and a lot of unseen and unfulfilled promises that the bulk of the GAF core is heading over. Until they see some evidence of an alternative going up, and get a sense of what it looks like, they have every reason to believe that nothing else on the Internet is a suitable replacement for what they got out of GAF—which is exactly what drove the people in the loop to set up an alternative in the first place when the whole place went down unannounced over the weekend. And that means they have every reason to buckle down and hope things blow over here, in a place that is familiar. It does not make them abuse enablers or closet trolls.

Those of you reluctant to jump have all kinds of good reasons to be hesitant, I'm sure, ranging from privacy and data security to uneasiness that the new place will just be a toxic anti-GAF hate board. I don't blame you at all for being cautious, and it's up to the new place to prove itself worthy of your attention as a viable successor.

Half and half. Clearly there are outside trolls who always wanted to wreck NeoGAF and are taking advantage of the sudden deficit of moderation here, but there's a lot of resentment from the long-time user base as well that is drawing them into the rioting, where once they might have resisted it to keep their forum running smoothly.

Why would that be the case? People that are leaving GAF probably didn't want to leave. But feel like they can't stay on GAF any longer in good conscious and would prefer to resurrect it elsewhere.

If everyone left GAF and went to the new site, it'd pretty much be the same forum minus Evilore.

ONE PERSON has the 'right' to be upset, the person who confided a traumatic event to people she thought she could trust, which was then used as ammunition for personal vendettas and has had very personal details about her life scutinised.

You're right about this, but I think some people here have trouble believing it because of all the trashing that is going on here and the occasional aggression against users who would rather stay.

Well it trivializes it cause they don't give a crap. A lot of people don't give a shit about the allegations they just saw an opportunity to come in here and revel in the flames. Any new board that springs up from a moving community is going to get the same treatment from these people. They want everything and anything that was related to this board to burn.

You're just continuing to trivialize it. When people that have been here since before 2010, posting an average of 10 posts per day, say they don't wish to continue to support the site, and posting reasons why, etc etc, then it's cherrypicking to talk about those that haven't posted much. There will always be people that haven't used their accounts nor care about their accounts that want to express the disdain they feel. Saying all of those are essentially trolls is further cherrypicking.

The big posters for many years are leaving, and that's more worthy concern than those that haven't contributed and won't contribute.

I guess I'm unclear one what point you're trying to make? I realize there's a lot of good posters and old accounts bailing, I'm one of them. All I said is that just because people are suiciding you can't assume that they're apart of certain group, since there's more than a "us vs them" thing going on here.

There is no "panning out" to be had. The girl who originally posted the story has since moved on and didn't want it to go public in the first place. Each side said their piece about it. There's nothing left to pan because neither of them want any more to do with it.

The only actually panning out to be had is waiting for all the burner accounts and trolling-for-outrage accounts to excuse themself from the forum, which may yet take a while.
 
Why apologize for a bunch of randoms on an internet forum? Some of this exodus is a bunch of upset people who had way too much emotion invested in this forum who used to grovel at EvilLore and the mods feet; almost worshipping them. Who cares where they are or what forum they're on now, you'll never know nor should you care. Again, random people on the internet.. More to worry about in life then what the flavor of the week user is doing with his/her new nickname.
