I deffo need to pick up a good racing sim though, and get a wheel!
If you're after a sim your options are:
- rFactor 2 - brilliant sim with an excellent modding community but not well-optimised and online racing is basically pretty dead. Some tracks are laser-scanned, some are good enough they may as well be, and some are crap.
- Assetto Corsa (original) - Really nice physics, runs well, decent modding scene, not as many races happening online as I'd like. Tracks are decent.
- Assetto Corsa Compet.. the new one - The physics don't feel right to me and performance is an absolute dog. AC1 will run on a rift quite happily with a 970 - I upgraded to a 1660 super for this and it's still dropping frames at times.
- Automobilista 2 - Some beautiful cars and fantastic physics but the tracks are an abomination. (note Automobilista 1 doesn't do VR)
- Project Cars 1/2 - a good fun simcade racer - though I haven't raced online much
- Raceroom Racing Experience - Decent enough - graphics are solid, simulation is solid, it's trying to do the iRacing model but hasn't got the regular scheduled races and practice sessions that make it so awesome.
- iRacing - the simulation is decent enough though it lacks the weather found in other sims. There is AI slowly coming in for single player stuff but you do iRacing for multiplayer. It's awesome. I've raced Max Verstappen, Will Power, Rubens Barriccello, Heikki Kovaleinen, Andy Priaulx and Lando Norris and been beaten by all except Andy Priaulx who's crap. It's expensive, but there's nothing out there that offers racing that clean - in part because of the expense as a gatekeeper and people not wanting to get banned and lose content that cost a shitload. The thing that makes it, I think, is the scheduled racing and practice sessions with other drivers where you can learn so much, and the excellent community in the official forums.
Sounds like a nightmare for someone with severe motion sickness like me.
Weirdly it isn't. Seated experiences don't tend to be so bad unless you reverse. Don't reverse.
EDIT: Added Raceroom and some explanation of iracing stuff.
