i hate this generation

Just because the DS' hinge cracks doesn't mean all is for naught. To paraphrase what someone else said on this forum, just dab a little two-part plastic epoxy into the hinge and wait for it to cure in 24hours- now the rest of your DS will break before that hinge ever does. It's probably best to use this while the crack is still the hairline type to nip the problem in the bud. If it's a clean separation all the way through you might want to use a quick 7-min setting epoxy.

FWIW, I used Loctite plastic epoxy, costs less than $5. Just be careful when using any type of epoxy, of course.

what if my DS' top screen doesn't have any resistance to it? it just sort of flops around like a dead fish and I have to put it on a flat surface to play it? will that fix it?

I edited my previous post, but if you use a quick setting epoxy, you could probably hold the two pieces together for ~10 minutes for the epoxy to set. Though I would wait for someone else to verify this. First time I used epoxy, but it worked like a charm.

Sure, it could be said of the 360. Though that will change in the months to come, just like the other systems.
 
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. If you have a PS2, I definitely recommend picking up a copy of Persona 3 or tackling some of your ps2/PC backlog in the mean time. It isn't a replacement for bioshock/madden/prime 3 but it should hold you over for the time being while your new refurbs ship.

I agree with Halo 3 but umm, Bioshock and Mass Effect? Yeah, okay. They are great games but they're not games that people cannot live without. People can even live without Halo 3.

Y'know... touch wood this doesn't happen and all... but PS3 is still a pretty young machine. It took a year for this whole RROD thing to reach critical mass. And I remember my PS2 DREs all too well.

I officially have no faith in any hardware manufacturer. My Wii has the overheat specks as well :(

RROD was a known and widespread issue just a few short months after the 360 launch. Some chalked it up to rushed launch units, but the problem persisted.

edit: things are going good for me. 360s were failing right out the gate and the problem only got worse, so i never jumped in. there are so many games on the rest of hte platfroms that waiting for 360 to drop in price, fix it's hardware issues, and get some must have titles is effortless.

one question though, when did we decide that the PS3 was more reliable than the Wii? what are we basing that on? i've only heard of sporadic cases of death in both cases. did i miss something?

Yes, you might've missed people having broken Wiis and them sending a PS3 to the surface of the sun and having it come back unscathed...


...and carrying some Carvel Ice Cream.

Seriously, I'm still surprised so many people are willing to throw down 500-600 for a console these days.

I haven't played anything on my 360 since Gears of War. That'll change in like a day when I pick up BioShock, and a few weeks later with Halo 3.

that's incredible.

me, i've got all three systems and haven't had a spot of bother out of any of them... nor do i have any precautions like turning off wii connect 24 or only using my 360 for exclusive titles and all that.

no problems with the ps3's bluetooth, although it's onboard wireless isn't so good... that isn't really a defect and i use the lan port anyway due to the wireless not working in linux either.

that really didn't help did it?

I meant library-wise. But at least DREs didn't totally nerf the console. Hell, you could get by on slow bootups for months or years before it got so bad you had to throw it out.

Regardless of how many titles you have happened to buy through 2007, there's no way to say 'there ain't much to play on it.' There's been at least one tentpole release every month of this year, never mind the 14 months before that.

And having read today someone talking about the expected 199 price tag for the Wii, i wonder how much it would sell if it came out with that one.

I think there's a slight chance that it would sell less because of being too cheap. I dunno, market is crazy!

i already have too much buzz with pc, ps2, psp, ps3, wii, and my ds. i'm good.

if there were must have titles for 360, i'd already have one.

Same could be said of the PS3 since it released for the most part with Resistance, Virtua Fighter 5, MotorStorm, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, WarHawk Beta, Rainbow Six Vegas and all the arcade titles.

My point was that there seems to be a lull on all the consoles right now, and that'll change this fall as each one seems to have some pretty damn fine titles coming out for it.

If you just pick up a PS3 for the first time, you'll have plenty to play.
