I have been using my index finger on W, in WASD

How would you jump while moving right?

Tip hand right to hit space with that big thumb joint

Tip hand left and flick space bar with ring finger nail after curling it way under

Looking more closely at the second one, it looks like you have an usually high range of motion in your lower thumb joints. I doubt many people can extend the lowest (wrist attaching) one like that while also flexing the next one to that degree. Did you ever break that hand? It might just be the result of building flexibility at that position over time, or just genetics if your right thumb is the same.

That's OK, keyboards are terrible for video games anyway. Actually your standard Keyboard is terrible in general. Carpal Tunnel, key layout designed to prevent old timey typewriter jams so it slows you down. Personally i don't use WASD i use QWSD.

oh god. I learned to drive with my arms criss-crossed and only just now learned to hold the steering wheel normally. I was just spinning my entire body in a circle when I wanted to turn.

This sounds incredibly dangerous. How did you pass your drivers tests?

If it was the truth you wouldn't have to rebind your keys in literally every PC game.

WASD is life because I'm not a hipster

Lol, I'm not a hipster. I do know how to properly type on a keyboard though. ESDF matches the actual proper hand position and reaches used when typing. More keys are accessible, and I know them by heart.

Seems WASD became popular because one dude's config got passed around in the 90s. No thought or fucks were given to how little sense it made compared to ESDF. I guess the vast majority of players don't actually know how to type.

What's wrong with you OP?

Also, ESDF, really? So stupid, seems like those viral facebook posts that tell invented stories. Reminds me of people peeling bananas the wrong way because of some idiot stating that monkeys began eating them before (which is obviously fake, as anyone that knows the history of bananas will tell you).

Just some insecure shit, right here.

And I thought I was strange for using my ring finger on W hah.

Well, you probably know how to type, right? I took a keyboarding class in high school. Afterwards, got my first PC, tried my first shooter, and thought "W for forward? Ring finger is really the key movement finger? WTF?" Then I realized the intention was to offset the left hand, using middle finger on W. Decided that was weird and pointless, marveled that every single dev for years and years set default controls this way, set ESDF for myself because it felt natural and made sense, and that's all she wrote.

I would be more comfortable with ESDF as well but I'm just too used to my ways now.

It's also kind of insane that posters here are calling people stupid and their ways incorrect. Reminds me of how angry some people get over Inverted / Normal axis. Grow up.

I cross my hands over to the other side of every controller I use quite regularly, but it feels fine and normal to me. Not as awkward as what it seems you are doing but still if it works and feels OK and doesn't impede you I don't see the problem.

I do that too, I prefer using my thumb to hit the lower movement keys and have easier access to ctrl for crouching. It also allowed me to sooner move the jump/space button to the side mouse button, which is unequivocally better for competitive gameplay.

oh god. I have played PC games for years, since like 2005/6 and done it the wrong way. Been playing a lot of fps games too like BF3,4BC2, Titanfall and SP ones like Bioshock, Singulariy, Half-Life games list goes on forever etc etc

MMOs too, hell any WASD game. I have been using index for W/S and thumb for D,e,r,f,v,c and space. Middle on A. Ring finger on shift for sprint.

I can force myself to use it the right way I am sure but man even typing feels weird now.
I am the only one?
