We said the same thing about 1080p last gen, everyone will want 4k next gen as 1080p TVs start getting discontinued.
Not very visible at all, I'd bet. I've never noticed that stuff after months of sitting a metre from my 55" 4K TV playing Pro games. 1080p on Nioh is far worse. I also wonder if these artifacts might be lessened by 60fps.
They are. Less of a difference in temporal data per frame so the artifacts are lessened.Very good point.
1440p is all we need with 60 fps and scaling tech thingy.
As we begin to get a glimpse of what might be achieved with the XB1X and having seen what can be done with PS4 Pro, what would you like to see Sony/MS focus on for their next-gen hardware?
I get the impression that while X1X has been marketed as a 4K machine, well see plenty of compromises and work-arounds as we move forward (some of which weve already seen). Given the huge horsepower behind this console, I have to wonder if the push for native 4K is really worth it.
The difference between 4K and faux-K just isnt that compelling for me (you can try this with WipeOut Omega Collection if you have a PS4 Pro). That considered, rendering at no more than 1440p and using reconstruction to hit a 4K output seems a far more sensible solution. This will leave more hardware overhead to push for higher quality textures (however that might be achieved) and a huge processor boost.
To me, these are far more transformative than an ever so slight increase in image quality.
What do you think, GAF?

Keep those tv marking sheep away from my set. This thread has been brought to you by TV marking sheep.
More dots must mean better graphics.
Framerates, textures, lighting, animation, shaders... Anything but dots.
Even without you saying, I bet these shots are from Watch_Dogs 2, aren't they? I say so because that game has the worst artifacting of any CBR game I've seen. Most implementations are far superior.Had to google it...

Interesting... I'd need to know how visible that would be from my sofa to care though.
So do you think The Tomorrow Children is the best-looking game of all time? I don't believe you could get a ton of people to agree with you...which is why most games prioritize other things, like resolution.Resolution wars are great marketing, but IQ and pixel density is only helping realtime graphics so much. I'd be much more impressed by a comprehensive raytracing/GI solution running at 900p, than current-gen assets running at 8K.
Tmc is a bad example because of the lighting tech being so expensive it made the "play area" super small. So do you think The Tomorrow Children is the best-looking game of all time? So that really does work? That's the logic I was using, but it was just a guess. So if the went with checkerboard 60fps and native 30fps on all titles, everyone could be happy.
