Don't get me wrong, I think FH3 is a great game and I like it a lot. And parts of it aren't far from where I live, and they're very similar to rl.
But
Driving lines are the worst thing to happen to racing games, and suck a lot of the fun out of them. It turns racing games into QTE games.

Folks say well if you don't like the driving line, just turn it off!
But that's not how it works. Driving line is part of the design of the game at that point, and devs rely on it too much, then don't really adjust the pov, road layout, etc to provide proper tells on corners.
PGR2 and PGR4 were both better than any Forza Horizon game.

In a game where I can rewind time I don't worry about it much. Horizon series are the only games I leave the racing line on because I'm terrible at referencing the map and when I'm offroad I lose track of where I'm going.

Any track or circuit based game they get turned off, but I welcome them in Forza Horizon.

M1chl thanks for inspiring me to fire up Forza Horizion 2 on XBOX One X yesterday. It took few races to adjust back to 30FPS and few Belgium beers to ignore 1080p resolution. But once I got past that, I truly had a blast playing it. I finished the remaining 6 championships and got to the finals. 3 is still my absolute favorite racing game of all time but it's surprising how good 2 holds up, even without X enhancements. PURE FUN.

I am one of the few people on earth who don't like F Horizon. Tried to get into it with 3 then recently with 4 and it all feels hollow as hell.

The problem i have with it, is that it's not really a game.

It feels like car "experience". I can't have set goal i chase like buying some super-car because gave gives me super-cars like candy. Want to save some money ? Are you stupid ? You want to play game to save money ? have 12 wheel spins which gives you few million "fuck you and your game thank me later !"

FM7 has that problem but it is pretty minimal where in FH it straight up destroys my enjoyment.

It is like you would get Dark Souls game you start game and have every weapon and your character level is 999.

Forza Horizon 1 was an amazing game, I loved it. Forza Horizon 2 was why I bought a Xbox One X, all the magic from the first was gone, leveling up meant shitty RNG wheel spins, the entire thing started feeling like a freemium game. FH 3 was a okish, but the AI does THE EXACT SAME grouping pattern EVER SINGLE RACE the whole "AI of your friends thing" is a stupid lie. FH 3 had so much DLC for it, that it was always just clearly a husk meant to be filled with DLC. FH4 was pretty bland, at this point you don't need to win races to proceed, still the same shitty AI for EVERY RACE.

I played the game on Hard mode with some assists turn off, and still it's too rote, every race is the same the AI groups together the EXACT SAME WAY EVERY RACE, and now there's no reason to win them. The ugly WHEELSPINS as a reward for leveling is pathetic.

Also being able to upgrade ANY CAR to ANY CLASS and the handling feeling almost identical for every car kills the need to try and car.

I loved FH 1, I never got the same feeling ever again from those games though.

TL;DR: Forza Horizon 2,3.4 are DLC HUSKS meant to be filled with extra money, wheelspins are the worst "reward" for leveling.
