it was weird how she wanted to rail a cat
NO, it's totally not. That fucking cat was explicitly designed to be a "charming gentle
man [cat]" --- just with the face and body of an upright-cat. Still a bit weird, but honestly I "get it" to some small extent. I'm sure most viewers found him 'charming' (just, y'know, hopefully not wanting to bone a cat).
I mean, look at fucking Simba here, that cool 90's hair wave was totally drawn into his mane to make him 'human appealing' -- I mean he's practically got bangs for chrissake.
It's so weird that animator's do this, but I'm not surprised when people find animal-like characters appealing (and I don't even like 'furries' or any of that). :S
On a semi-related note, great choice to get Cary Elwes for the part (both times).
The title of worst Ghibli movie can only belong to Pom Poko. Even an excellent english dub couldn't save that testicle-tacular train wreck of a film.
Yeah I hated this flick. It felt like it goes on forever, and for the most part the Tanooki are a bunch of assholes. I get their plight, but not really the story I wanted to follow. I liked that 'mockumentary' style it had going for it, but...bleh.
(and yeah, testic--- "pouches"...super distracting, super weird).
Forreeeaal. The Cat Returns is more of a very pleasant distraction than something that I would wholeheartedly urge people to watch, but it's fun and well made.
Among highly rated Ghibli films, I guess I go against the grain on Arietty. It has 95% on RT but I didn't find it all that memorable aside from the great Ghibli production.
Yeah I think "pleasant distraction" is the best way to describe it
I like Arietty, but it's also really tame (despite the major themes behind it), a little slow, and not that much happens. I do think she's one of Ghibli's prettiest leads (and of the rare cases where the lead character doesn't have short hair), and the music is top shelf.
