I think Haze will actually fill a much-needed void on PS3

I certainly hope it turns out to be good and a success. It certainly appears to be an interesting idea, but the execution remains to be seen.

as soon as it went ps3 exclusive, xbots started calling it a halo clone. haze's gameplay is anything but generic and it just shows how biased some people can be.
Ah, a reliable source.

I think Haze will fill a much-needed void...

i support this statement ^_^

anyone else actually like that haze video where they injected the ps3?

The sales will tell the story of how well this void was filled (and how big it was in the first place) and unfortunately for Free Radical, I don't think that the void is really that big and by all accounts, Haze won't be the game to do it anyway.

I liked the Timesplitters series, but I feel like Free Radical never figured out that they were making console games because the games were too fast-paced and twitchy for their own good. I never felt like I had full control of my aiming at all times like I do in a Halo or COD. The PS2 controller was partly to blame, but I felt the same about Timesplitters 2/3 on the Xbox. From the videos, it actually looks like they've slowed things down a bit in Haze so it won't have this problem, but they have to seriously overcome the "generic" image this game has (along with Blacksite, TimeShift, etc.).

Good thought, but the PS3 crowd is more likely looking to KZ2 and Resistance 2.

i am looking foward to it, i think it will be a decent game, will definitely fill the ps3 fps void

on a related story i really wanted to play this at pax, went 2 days during the media only time and each time the pr rep just got to me, definitely the low point of my trip

we have a video of it somewhere its funny in retrospect

Ah. Well, we shall all see soon enough. I'm not very hopeful, and I almost think it'd be smartest to release an MP demo as opposed to one with an SP mission. Although I suppose at this point, people might not be too receptive of an MP FPS on any system.

Oh and, Detroit, MI? Was that a stop-over, or are you also stuck in the region of emergent misery?

I didn't like it. But I can still recognize that it was damn good (co)marketing.
Memorable + hammer home your unique selling proposition (Nectar twist) + remind people of the platform you're on + remind people that the platform has a much improved price now

We've seen greater calamities go unchallenged. It's just too cool to want this one to suck.

Yes who are these crazy people? Single player blows but multi is where it's at.

I found the single player campaign to be very powerful. It was certainly a less glorifying look at war than what most shooters offer and the ending was brilliant, in my opinion.

Haze is an FPS in a sea of FPS's. I don't want to rag on the game, but its getting quite absurd in the lack of variety we are getting.

apart from the visuals, haze stands out as one of the more unique titles. everyone screaming "generic" and "halo clone" are only looking skin deep.

Watch the vid. It's a terrific example of why Free Radical make great games, they have a sense of humour and know their stuff.

With that said, I'm really anticipating this as my first online co-op PS3 title. I've been waiting ever since I bought the system, for a game that catered to that particular aspect, and Haze is going to make it happen.

And OMG at the jungle level clip this video shows off.... best lighting ever in one particular scene? Perhaps...

That dude is drinking vodka in his glass.

I get the feeling half the people in this thread didn't even watch the video.

Anyway I liked the self deprecating tone of the whole thing, makes a change from the usual straight faced PR shit

But normally when someone posts a video with comedy elements, there's usually 10 people posting :lol :lol :lol and the same amount saying 'That sucked' 'I want the last 5 minutes of my life back'

..Maybe that's not such a bad thing then.

i watched it and enjoyed it but there were parts that dragged on a bit. i hope haze has some of this humor in it -- i loved the humor in timesplitters.

Is that confirmed though? It was taken down, so it could have just been a tentative date.

No, it's not confirmed. But most people in this thread are taking it as coming out today unless proven otherwise, rather than the more natural other way around.

Looking forward to it, i have liked the look of it from the start. Online co-op is where its at all games need it cod4 would be even more epic with 4 player online co-op.

Nectar disruption. On a fundamental level, it'd seem odd that a large company would allow for this to even be a risk. Humans can be lead and manipulated, but humans also strongly dislike being knowingly tricked and used. Even a slight disruption would be enough to wedge a splinter of doubt into the mind of the soldier. But that's fine, I can accept that as necessary in order to strike a balance between the plausible and the intriguing. But then you have what happens when other soldiers overdose on Nectar. They flip out, commit suicide or attack their own. If it's truly a state of confusion and of not being able to tell one target from the other, it should be a calculated risk of the soldier still attacking opposing forces, and not just their own.

And to be brutally honest, I don't think that what I've seen so far of character animation and interaction is where it needs to be to do the darker side of this much justice. It's work in progress so I won't dog on it too much, but they have shown a few scenes where a Mantel soldier blows himself up following a nectar overdose. And the motion just doesn't look natural enough to really have the impact the action should have.

I think at worst, this will be a good game with excellent MP and the default value added by online co-op, but I'm not so sure that they will hit their more ambitious goals.

That too. Satire seemed like a good fit for a company known for its sense of humor, and for its ability to design and develop characters with real character.

Isn't that exactly why you have Mantel soldiers quitting to become rebels???? Didn't you notice that much of the story is about this...??

I do have to admit that I'm a little bit interested because the Timesplitters series was never one to focus on storylines. That seems to be a big thing with Haze. However their lack of any decent story in the TS series can also cause one to worry if the story in Haze will be good.

I am interested though.

Obviously, but that's not exactly a plausible scenario. It's far too obvious and dangerous of a weakness for a corporation of this size and strength to risk dealing with. But as said, that's not a dealbreaker.

is all the hate for this game cause it went PS3 exclusive?

Wait, it went exclusive? GAF, I'm so behind... :(

Interesting. All I will say is Halo and multicoloured armour. Not plausible, but fun fun fun.

Isn't that limited to multiplayer, though? The story mode does not use coloured armour.

I've been an extreme procrastinator as of late. I should have asked this a long time ago. About two to three days ago I recieved the first issue of the new PlayStation: Official Magazine. Inside, they had a really nice preview for Haze. My question is... Would anyone like to hear about it? :D It is pretty informative and contains some new information. Well, I shouldn't be talking. It seems lately I cannot post anything that is new: all old news. But, hey, I will give this a shot. Just let me know. And if you would like to hear about it, I would prefer if I could type the whole article at once and make it out to be just one really long quote. :lol Would that be legal? I do a horrible job of explaining things.

Well, I never said anything about it not being fun. But FRD is by its own admission aiming for a more thought provoking experience here, and in such cases it's important to have most angles covered. Now, I don't expect people in general to care one way or the other, but I had unrealistically high expectations of this game. I was basically expecting something of Homeland caliber, albeit with a satirical twist.
