there is no brand. Those tubs just appear on the bottom shelves of grocery store freezers across the country. Noone's sure where they come from or even what they're made of.

Sherbert? The fuck you mean, sherbert? Sherbert's a bastardization of sherbet, which is itself a bastardization of sorbet. One corruption of language I can handle, but not two. So either get sherbet or get the fuck out.

Ben and Jerry's Creme Brulee is godly, as is off-brand lime sherbet. There's a time and a place for artificial flavors, and that is exactly it. So good.

The only unusual flavor icecream I ever bought for myself from a grocery store was Ben and Jerry's 'From Russia with Buzz" - Coffee Icecream + Coffee Liqueur + Dark Coffee Icecream + Espresso Fudge Chips.

Unfortunately they discontinued it, so I don't buy icecream anymore unless it's just plain vanilla. Actually I am quite fond of the one someone mentioned earlier; Bryers with the vanilla bean specks. Amazing stuff.

The only other icecream I ever favored was Baskin Robbin's Pumpkin icecream; but it is seasonal so some years I forget about picking some up.

I just went to Walmart to take care of my ice cream sweet tooth and they are selling all Ben and Jerry's pints for $2.50!

I got Americone Dream, Chunky Monkey, Ginger Snap, and Half Baked.

Pro tip: Buy a plastic insulated cup for your ice cream. The good stuff melts faster and you get plenty of time to enjoy it before it melts. :D

The only ice cream even close to blue bell is that moose tracks ice cream from kroger. Ben and Jerry's is ok, but the best flavor they have is oatmeal cookie. That one has a flavor on par with blue bell ice cream as well, but most of there stuff isnt on the same level. It sounds better than it taste.

I've always been partial to Brigham's. It's NEVER on sale, but it's already worth the higher price tag.

Though, Breyers can be pretty good. Their mint chocolate chip is one of the best out there. The chips actually melt and aren't that waxy shit that you see in a lot of other ice creams.

Friendly's is also a winner, since it's always on sale and cheap. I actually prefer their store-bought stuff to the ice cream they serve at their restaurants, which is weird.

Well, if you're in Ohio it's United Dairy Farmer's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.

My first thought when I saw the title was United Dairy Farmers Whopper Ice Cream.

I buy Breyers Mint Chocolate Chip the most though, second would be B&J's Heath Bar Crunch. I really dislike Graeters for some reason, even though its Toffee Chip is what led be too Heath Bar Crunch.

I've had these since I was a kid. Cheap and tasty. Two for five!

Yep. Here in Phoenix they have these things in the Water stores. My wife turned me onto Thrifty.

Their Black Cherry, Chocolate Malted Crunch, and Pecan Pralene are my faves. DA BOMB.

I swear I love you, I really do....but I just picked some of this up and its pretty crappy. The actual vanilla ice cream taste like shit, and its only saving grace are the waffle pieces, as there wasn't enough caramel to do anything to alter the taste. Not even close to any flavor of blue bell Ive ever had, not even almond pistachio.

Blue Bell by a country mile. Nothing else even comes close.

United Dairy Farmers in Ohio does, but Blue Bell is very good.

If we're talking national chains then for cost/taste I'd go with Breyers. I don't like how fake and creamy Edy's is. For pure taste and forgetting cost, I'd say Ben and Jerry's overall. Cookie dough and Strawberry Cheesecake specifically.

Why are some of these other brands so darn expensive(in comparison) when blue bell is so far above them as far as tastes goes? I mean, its the closest any food product Ive had actually come to a real homemade taste. Their vanilla ice cream is insane, especially when considering I'm not even a fan of straight vanilla ice cream and can only really enjoy it if its home made.

"Fake" might be putting it mildly... a number of their products are now labeled as "Frozen Dairy Desserts" because they don't meet FDA requirements for calling them ice cream.

Who has the best standard flavors? You know, chocolate, vanilla, none of this exotic/weird/fruity/extravagant stuff...

I've had Blue Bell, it tasted like generic brand ice cream. I was very disappointed. Most ice cream brands taste significantly worse after the first time you open them, though.

I know it doesn't count as "store bought", but how is Cold Stone ice cream? They started selling it at Tim Horton's around here recently and the fact that you can pick what you want to put in it has me intrigued.

Ben & Jerry's is by far my favorite, with Breyer's & Dreyer's being close seconds.

Have been eating It's-Its since forever and it easily one of my favorite novelty ice creams.

Though best ice cream I've had - and you can go get it in a store (provided you're close to it) - was from the Berkey Creamery at Penn State...amazing stuff.

Im from ohio, and Ive never even had that :^(

Do it today! When my parents from Georgia visit, the first thing my dad asks is if I have some UDF ice cream in the house. And they have Mayfield down there, which is pretty good.

UDF cookie dough is great, and the peanut butter and chip is to die for. Butter pecan is good as well.

Not surprising. When the list of ingredients for ice cream is a paragraph long, there's a problem. I do give original Breyer's credit for being simple and for using real ingredients, and like I said, it's basically my favorite cheap, national brand.

But usually Breyers to save money.

And what is the absolute most heavenly thing to DRINK alongside a bowl of delicious ice cream?

why of course it is

Next time I head back to ohio to visit the family, Ill most certainly be on top of this!

Also, anyone who is a fan of oatmeal cookies(I am!), do yourself a favor and find this

You will not regret it. Its the only Ben and Jerry's I like to be honest, and its one of my favorite ice cream's ever.

graeters-ice-cream.jpg

It's unstoppable. Graeter's is still made fresh in Cincinnati to this day. They hand-drizzle semi-sweet chocalate into their "chip" line and I have gotten chunks of chocolate equal to half a candy-bar in a dip before. Everyone loves the raspberry chip around here. My favorite by far is Buckeye Blitz as described below:

Our premium chocolate ice cream that has been fortified
with our creamy peanut butter flavor and loaded with
peanut butter cookie dough pieces and our signature
chocolate chips.

If you are EVER in Cincinnati, just do yourself a favor and stop for ice cream.

Used to buy oatmeal cookie chunk all the time. Amazing stuff. Can't find it anywhere around here these days. :(
I have to go to an actual ben and jerry's shop in order to get it. Ive never seen it in a store before, but once I do...

Graeters is good, but I've never felt the appeal for it considering how expensive it is. $12 for a half gallon at Kroger? No thanks. I'd rather get UDF, which is also out of Cincinnati and to me tastes just as good.

Haagen Dasz occasionally makes a "Mayan Chocolate" ice cream which is goddamned unbelievable.

I had that stuff. A very dark, but not bitter, chocolate, with a slightly cinnamon taste to it. Its texture was different too, very velvety. Good stuff.

But for Strawberry Cheesecake ice cream, the Breyers brand beats the shit outta B&J.

As for the best ice cream?

02_mic_select_blueberry_cream_pie2.jpg

This shit needs to be regulated. Pie pieces, blueberry swirl in ice cream with cream cheese ice cream swirls.

I'll be back later.

By the way the beer I posted is Bell's Special Double Cream Stout. It's a winter release and just hit stores and I'm completely serious when I say every ice cream lover should give it a try. It is absolutely phenomenal stuff.

And all you fools ignored me...

Unfortunately I haven't had any in 10 years... damn texan only ice cream!

I just had a little Blue Bell ice cream a few minutes ago :)

Vanilla, and I mixed some strawberry preserves into it (and a teaspoon of butter)

fucking delicious.
