Idiotic things fans say in defense of a game

So some games come out flawed. We all see it happen regularly. The game as a whole could be good... great in fact, but there is one or more glaring issues.

Sometimes you hear a repeated defense of either a flawed system or a contraversal decision that just sounds dumb as fuck.

This is the thread for those defenses and excuses that irk you.

Let's hear them.

"It's all about subverting the player expectations."

"It might be a bad <franchise name> game, but it's a great game on its own."

"That's just a beginner's trap, not a bad design decision."

Someone told me that "you need to play for 30hrs in order for it to get good. "( I think it was for League of legends)

Personally, I am not keen on wasting 30hrs of my life just in the offchance the game gets better.

"You didn't like it because you didn't understand it"

This is specially irritating when the story or any other controversial aspect of the game sucks and even a child would understand it.

Main character looks cool.

10 hours is possible in an RPG (very slow ramp up of skills/abilities).

However, a game getting good after 30 or more hours is ridiculous.

True but my counter point is slow can be good and still engaging. The first 30 hours can be tamer or chill compared to what comes next but still rocks.

The implication I am getting at is people are acknowledging is that the first X amount of hours just isn't good, just bad... but then skyrockets to great.

I am not wasting that time to get to the "good"

Gets better on the second playthrough.

Morons.
I can honestly understand that with Team Ninja Nioh-likes as they hide entire sets of mechanics, sub-stories, and challenges behind New Game +. Also, many difficult games are frustrating the first time around and are approached from the mindset of winning at any cost. Smooth sailing on a second run really allows the player to engage with the mechanics and approach challenges playfully.

Same for me. The idea that a game gets good after some asinine amount of my precious hours. If a game doesn't have a fucking hook within an hour, I'm bored and want to move on.

After playing the RE6 demo "you have to play the whole game to appreciate the sophisticated combat" are you crazy the demo was enough to give me a stomachache 😆

Games with a shitload of combat, probably more than 50% of the game, but hey, people buy this game\genre for other things so combat can suck asses even if you fight every 90 seconds.
Fuck off, if you include so much combat in your game, at least make it decent\good, absolute shit and frequent combat is gonna sour me on the good parts of your game and have the opposite effect.

Hard-hardest mode locked behind finishing the game once or multiple times, but it prolong the life of the game...
Fuck off, let me decide the challenge i want in my first, most significant and probably only run since outside of super mega nerds, majority of people barely finish games once let alone multiple times, this is especially bad when your normal mode is easy as fuck, i'm looking at you square, but they are not the only one who do this shit.

X developer\publisher never made hard games and they are game for childrens.
Fuck off, the devs know that majority of people that buy these games are adults, gimme some challenge instead of making brainless games for retards.

Making ai too smart is not fun, better have absolute retards in 99,99% of games.

Fuck off, games today have 3-4-5-6-7 difficulty modes, leave the retarded ai for the first 6 modes and give me hard ai for the hardest mode.
But gym, what if i want to play on the last mode but still want dumb ai? Well double fuck off because games today let you tailor single parameters like enemy ai, aggression, damage etc. Change the ai to spastic and leave everything else the same, problem solved.
The reality is that developing smart but fair ai is probably super hard and devs don't care at all because we buy all games with retarded ai anyway.

"This game was awesome. If you didn't enjoyed it, you have to be [insert X platform] hater"

Some people are just stupid enough to comprehend not everyone needs to have the same taste as them

One thing that bothers me deeply related to Assassin's Creed Mirage

The game's combat is absolutely terrible, its not even up to debate. Its objectively bad

And many people will use the excuse that you are supposed to use stealth and its not an action game. Seriously?

Making the combat clunky with terrible animations and AI is all made on purpose because you have to use stealth?

Its the most ridiculous excuse many AC fans use to dismiss criticism of the game. Its stupid

"It's fun with friends"

Yeah no shit idiot, everything is fun with friends.

They wouldn't even let her be ugly in a show that takes place after the apocalypse.

How is she ugly in the game but not ugly in that tv show? She looks just the fucking same, you sad sacks.

Man this is the pathetic shit that I have to read? It's like some stupid incel bullshit.

" Nah man she's ugly so the game is gonna be shit "

Who the F cares bro are you jacking off to virtual pixels??? Arent you gonna be looking at her back in a third person game?

Regardless why would I care if a protag is attractive or not? How does that affect your enjoyment of a game ffs.

Mr. A - "X thing in this game is revolutionary"
Mr. B - "I played it and X thing is just average"
Mr. A - "You're lying"

That's fair, I'm just saying that this can literally happen:

the first X amount of hours just isn't good, just bad... but then skyrockets to great.
Because I've encountered it before. Some devs tune RPGs to make things feel too 'weak' or 'off' (like movement being too slow or missing hits) like you're intentionally nerfed until your stats raise to a certain degree, then it suddenly feels normal like other RPGs. And there are some great RPGs that unfortunately do this.

I think the reason I'm discussing it is because it's difficult for me to say it's 100% idiotic when such a thing actually exists. I will agree that it definitely feels like the wrong way to develop a video game though.

Calm your tits.

and if it is that way, that's a badly designed game and shouldn't be bought 🤷
nah

some games are a slow burn or so atypical from what youre used to it takes times getting used to things

thats how morrowind was for me at launch
for a long time, it was a text-heavy, shitty combat, directionless empty world with stupid enemies that kept killing me
knew a lot of people who played it and gave up early
those losers really missed out

Funny thing is I thought about bringing up pre-Skyrim ES games lol, because it's true for those. The protagonist feels like dogshit to play and they die easily until the player reaches a certain moment to where you feel capable.
