I'd recommend subscribing to both Important If True and Idle Thumbs still. Our plan for Important If True is not really to be a "what have you been watching/playing/reading/whatever" podcast. That stuff might come up but it won't be the focus. I think you're more likely to hear game talk on Idle Thumbs, even if episodes don't come out every week.

Ok, got it. Thanks for clearing that up.

Oh man the return of the Puffins voice. New show instantly a classic.

Also has the Idle Thumbs Patreon always existed? Or did I just miss a recent announcement?

Great first ep. Since the format seems to focus on external media, I wonder if the show notes will evolve into linking all of it or there be some sort of reference somewhere.

Would probably be best to have it in the show notes, so you know what they're talking about as you listen. They way I will in a couple hourse, thanks to you.

Also, the way the Nat Geo video is edited gives me a headache.

Yeah we will get better about this going forward. Especially now that most all major podcast listening apps support full markup/links in episode descriptions.

Edit: Chris added links to the description! Hallowed be thy name.

I just want to say sincere thanks to all the thumbs! 300+ awesome episodes over the years, and far more out of my Kickstarter dollars than I ever thought would happen.

Really looking forward to listening to Important If True!

We were flip flopping or a while there but more Idle Thumbs are also coming (next ep in two weeks). They won't be as meaty and will definitely not be as frequent, but it seemed like a waste to put a full stop to it.

I was relieved when I heard this towards the start of the episode. Doesn't make sense to get rid of it completely, just when you guys feel there's enough stuff to talk about. Just as long as you don't avoid morphing from game talk to ridiculous talk that'd otherwise be kept to IIT.

Listened to Important if True fully expecting to hate it, but ended up loving it. The brisk run time combined with the semi-focused topic selection makes for some satisfying listening.

Great first episode, you guys! This shouldn't be surprising, but it felt a lot like Thumbs without the video game wrapper. I think it'll be agood format change. I'm looking forward to weekly episodes and monthly postcards. Or maybe you said monthly episodes and weekly postcards. Yes, that was it. Weekly hand-drawn Olly Moss postcards. Very excited about those!

I feel bad for saying this at the risk that it makes it not happen, but I'm looking forward to every one of Nick's endorsements being fully Goldblum'd. Also I endorse Jake's endorsement because I literally had the same thought process and rewound the cast immediately.

Basically what I'm saying is this pod has been well casted.

Oh my.

2:21:00 on episode 300: Years before Firewatch was even a figment in the mind of the Thumbs, Chris Remo already had its perfect music in mind for random anecdotes.

Just catching up on my podcasts and listening to ep300. Almost lost it when Chris talked about those magic eye 3D pics and shitting himself.

I'm so so glad he said that. I was not expecting it at all, and obviously neither was Steve.

Honestly this turn of Idle Thumbs was handled so perfectly.

I got the nostalgic look at the last 8+ years with the hilarious cuts, and it made me sad that the podcast I loved was over....

....and then the new show starts immediately and it's like reuniting with old friends after something I loved ended.

I still hope someday someone does a Best Of the new Idle Thumbs (and the backer casts, and the dani era, and the last era) as well. I loved that Best Of for the first run.

I'd volunteer but a) it's never going to happen and b) I'm already trying to do the Beastcast Best-of in my off time

As someone who probably only been subbed to Idle Thumbs for maybe 3 years at most, the podcast was indeed a treat to have on a weekly basis. Subbed to Important but True and am looking forward to your future endeavors.

P.S. Episode 300 was great but the supercut of the 8 year run of the show really drives home how many inside jokes went over my head. Also holy moly I didn't know the theme song changed that many times over the years!

man you probably don't even know the joys of dwarf sex (the infamous lost episode they buried because, uh, like 40% of it was about dwarf sex)

/edit wow I found a remix of Space Asshole someone made because apparently Space Asshole got really popular in the Space Station 13 community

I just finished the first commute of my work week so I've gotten through about a third of the mega bag so far and I'm exactly the same as Chris in regard to the trend of multiplayer games having some kind of progression system of unlocks, I just bounce off them immediately. The last Call of Duty game I played was 4, and it was one of the rare few games I actually sold off. I remember having both it and Halo 3 at the time, COD4 was bringing out its map packs and I was level 16 or something, and really just wanted to use the P90, which I found would take me until somewhere in the level 40s to unlock. So, I made the break and got rid of COD4 and stuck to Halo 3 instead.

Since then I've pretty much ignored games that tie non-trivial things in multiplayer to some time investment progression. It's made it easy to avoid a lot of games in the past handful of years.

That's not a remix, that's the newer recording I did for the vinyl release.

For the Thumbs completionist in your family, we've made public the eighteen Kickstarter Progresscast episodes from 2012 - https://www.idlethumbs.net/kickstarter-progresscast . They're probably about 1/3 about the Idle Thumbs Kickstarter and 2/3 "lost" Idle Thumbs episodes from the Chris/Sean/Jake era. They're often much shorter than main Thumbs episodes, and the recording quality varies (especially early on when we were recording in our living room, or when we had the studio but it was an empty room with a microphone on a chair), but by the end things are just fully up and running like normal.

PS: that Kickstarter campaign celebrates its fifth birthday tomorrow. Thanks again to all of you who backed us back then and have stuck around this whole time. We're all old now! We did it!

It's still mind boggling to me that the *kickstarter* was five years ago. I was a baby when I started listening in 2008.

Oh, man. I had forgotten about the amazing Kickstarter video where it looked like you were having a really hard time keeping yourself from laughing.

By the end of that fucking thing I think we were having a really hard time keeping ourselves from ripping each other's heads off. It took us an entire day, and we had already thrown away a much higher-concept version of a video that we shot a bunch of.

(We then repeated this on a much smaller scale last week when we made the Important If True teaser, which had a script that was much longer than what shipped, which took us many takes to get through straight, and then in editing I threw almost all of it away because five years later we're still all terrible at canned delivery.)

Thanks for putting them up - I somehow missed/neglected the kickstarter but have been listening from the start. I even did a full re-listen of the pre-kickstarter episode run during that period before you restarted. To my mind it's the golden era of idle thumbs. Also, you played games back then (BOOM!)

Pretty sure Green Lantern is the Blindfolded Fool was the first episode I listened to so that was a fun callback.
I'm the lame person who would skip through the Thumbs intros so I loved the weird monstrosity.
Also did I miss the intro of the conf grenade where Steve was talking about how he had "news arm" and the paper was soo heavy? This is a terrible description but I swear this is real. I think it was from the same conference as the ep with the sassy and saucy emperor.

Jake looks like he's trying his hardest to hold it together in that Kickstarter vid.
