If BOTW had trophies/achievements..

If Zelda had trophies I would legit buy a Switch right now but welp, will play it on PC instead. Your loss Nintendo.

If it had trophies though it will easily fill 60 trophies like:
  • Story trophies
  • Side quest trophies
  • Combat trophies
  • Collectables trophies
  • Misc. trophies like flying x distance, climbing set amount, running set miles, etc.

It's still worth your time.

Also how are some of you finding so few Korok seeds? They are everywhere, I have about 50 after 10 hours.

Equally confused. They are everywhere. Anything that looks like a designer spent a few more moments making something look unique is usually a dead give away, and those can be seen quite frequently.

900 korok seeds and 120 shrines still turn it into a bit of checklist. I mean 95% of all the suspicious things in the world or strange detours lead into those two things. Hell, a large bulk of the story essentially comes in the form of a checklist.

Edit: forgot the compendium which is an even worse offender.
the game specifically does not tell you those numbers though (and I actually don't like knowing them), so although there's still a goal of finding/collecting all of them, there's a massive difference in how that's framed versus a literal item in a list telling you exactly how many of x item exist in the world and how close you are to finding them. I dunno in my mind at least that's one of the things that makes the game's works feel so nice and natural, these things are there for you to find but there's no looming pressure of "there are still 72 more shrines to complete, go find them!" Obviously this is going to be different for each player and people are going to react in different ways and find out information from different sources in any case, but forcing every game to have an achievement system, especially depending on how it has to work, how many you have to have, point values, etc. is a making a fairly significant game design decision for every single game, which USD essentially the same as taking that decision away from the developers. For things like shrines and seeds, the developers of Breath of the Wild made the decision not to put those things in the form of an ever-present checklist with a progress meter for you to look at (unless that's something that comes up later that I haven't gotten to yet (and don't tell me if it is!)) and I think the game is better of dirt that decision to not have been pushed one way or another because of a system external to the game itself.

It's always funny how much salt people who don't like achievements being into these threads. If they were in Breath of the Wild, it would be nice to have them for visiting lots of the cool vistas and then doing all of the shrines.

Damn...i was thinking this too. Its crazy. I like trophies but i played games for a long time without them and its definitely better with. How can it not be? Its just there and doesnt bother you if you dont care about them. And if you do its another few challenges for a game you already beat that had little replay value otherwise. Sounds like people have some low levels of completion and it bothers them.

...it would be a worse game (to me) because it'd become a checklist of predefined things to accomplish and then your're done, rather than an open-ended adventure where you can explore with essentially no guidance or direction. Breath of the Wild is the ultimate example of why achievement lists shouldn't be strictly mandated by hardware manufacturers.

(also I know this is really dumb and minor but I really wish the number of Korok seeds had been spoiler tagged!!!)

I like when games have achievements (even though I'm not a trophy hunter, I just like it), but I perfectly understand your point.

They should add some hard (or time consuming) trophies for Zelda Maniacs.
know myself, I wouldn't do it

1. Find 900 Seeds (there would be three different trophies, 100 seeds, 450 seeds, 900 seeds)

2. Get special reward from every Statue in the world. (missable if you aren't being careful enough)

3. Find 120 Shrines (20 Shrines, 60 Shrines, 120 Shrines)

4. Beat Ganon with three hearts

Fuck trophies it would dictate the direction of play. I don't like the idea of it in a game like this in less they unlock after beating it.

Nintendo will not add achievements. They just don't agree with them.

That isn't true as Xenoblade Chronicles and Smash Bros series have in game achievements, with the latter being a better system as it gave you in-game rewards my unlocking new stages, musics or characters.

Heck some Nintendo Wii U games used stamps as an achievements.

They really want the players to focus on the game it's self. I get it but I think that after the whole game is done the achievements give more to the game.

They really don't, all they add is an artificial way of extending the gameplay without adding new content to the games.

Sooo you aren't getting a Switch because it doesn't have trophies but yet you're okay playing on PC, and I do hope it's via emulation with a legal copy rather than a pirated copy, despite the fact it doesn't have trophies.

Your logic doesn't make any sense.

Also how are some of you finding so few Korok seeds? They are everywhere, I have about 50 after 10 hours.

It's probably because they don't fully explore everywhere, my little Brother passed by an island that had a lone rock in the middle until I suggested that he should check out the rock lo and behold it had a Korok hiding under it.

Um, I'm okay without them... thanks.

Some gamers have unfortunately been trained to ignore everything unless there's a quest marker blinking over it.

How in the hell are people not finding Korok seeds? I love looking for the bastards and have over 80 now and I am just on like the third main mission.

Why do you want to ruin the best game ever made with such meaningless bullshit?

I never get this. Achievements/Trophies add more value to a game. Now, the value is 100% subjective. It could absolutely worthless to a big reason why you pay a game. But how does having achievements in a game hurt a game or make it worse? Answer, it doesn't.

1. Perform random action x number of times
2. Defeat x number of enemy y with weapon z
3. Complete sidequest x in y amount of time
...etc. etc.
What a fun game it would be if it had these auwsemone echievements!

Korok seeds are one of the best things about the game. I wouldn't go after all 900 but they always put them in places you should be looking. And some neat little things too.

I love em. My favourite collectible without a doubt.

Screw a trophy for that though. I'd like to say I would have disabled the notifications but I probably wouldn't.

Feels more of a pure game without them for some reason.

The seeds are great. They reward exploration. I looked in a hollowed out stump and saw a clay pot. Broke it and there it was. Love that kind of stuff.

They are everywhere, really easy to find once you've seen a couple of them / know what to look for.
Pretty much. These are some of the things I've found to be hints:

- Circles of rocks in the lakes/ponds
- Large low tree stumps with a leaf symbol on them
- Little shiny pinwheels
- Single yellow flowers
- Liftable rocks in weird spots
- Stacks of cubes with one that responds to Magnesis
- Holes in the ground you can plug by rolling a nearby boulder

I'm kind of bummed that the game didn't end up having any My Nintendo integration for earning points outside of getting coins for buying the game. I was hopeful they'd have done something since Mario Run, Miitomo and Fire Emblem Heroes all had integration. Maybe it's something they're only doing for their mobile Apps.

This post makes me about sick to my stomach I have to say. You almost sound addicted and then you seem to imply you are pirating the game because it doesn't have achievements.

Gaming really has been changed to this for some people.

I feel this but the exact opposite.
Achievements would make the game much more enjoyable for me for the exact reasons presented here.

I don't want no guidance or no direction. I need motivation to care more about what I'm doing because while I'm loving the game, I'm not loving how aimless I feel all of the time. Achievements would help lots :)

How about say, uh, actual achievements like
pulling out the master sword
, no extra heart run, or finding every korok seed. A few things you'd get in a course of a game takes you, and most doing something that's actually a challenge

How in the hell are people not finding Korok seeds? I love looking for the bastards and have over 80 now and I am just on like the third main mission.

I've barely advanced the story myself and have been aggressively hunting for seeds for 90% of my playthrough. I have 100 which sounds nice until you realize it's just 1/9 of what I need.

I mean there is no way korok hunting doesn't turn a slog eventually. I'm halfway through the shrines so hopefully that won't be as much of an issue.

People do realize that developers don't make games around trophies right? They are required but you can easily just make progression trophies instead of making it a collectathon. The odd ball developer not liking it doesn't change the flexibility and creativity you can have in making these kinds of things.

Zelda already has the typical template for a trophy guide as do every Nintendo game since they started to make them. Having them in wouldn't have changed anything. Plus it's a new console they could've easily just have a turn off the notification setting.

People against trophies and achievements always confuse me. It's optional to have them and do them but not having them entirely deliberately takes something away from millions of people, who have been enjoying the side activity for a decade now.

Best wishes.

Yeah, I think the same way. This game is very pression free
Why would you let it dictate how you play though? Nintendo could patch in trophies/achievements later on and the game itself would be exactly the same. Like privitsan02 mentioned above here, games arent really made around trophies/achievements, they are added in later on. Personally, i try not to look at the trophy list before i've beaten a game.

Doesn't the post do more imply pirating? Doesn't it confirm that pirating will happen cause Nintendo is not going to release on PC.
