If you didn't know modern music is shit already, this is proof.

Article from Star Pulse:

Rebecca Black, a 13-year-old from Orange County, CA, has become an overnight sensation thanks to the music video for her song "Friday," which she filmed and posted on YouTube. The video has been tearing up the the internet and already has a whopping 13 million views and counting.

The downside? The song is terrible; and the majority of the millions of plays it's gotten are from people wanting to see just how bad it is (you can see for yourself below).

The song has met with harsh criticism from both social media and in the mainstream; with sites like Yahoo asking if it's "the worst song ever," and Time magazine's website condemning it to "a whole new level of bad." Adding insult to injury (if that's even possible now) Time also calls it a "train wreck."

And the two biggest music-based publications - Rolling Stone and Billboard - had strong words also. Rolling Stone called it an "unintentional parody of modern pop"; while Billboard scathed, "From the singing straight out of Auto-Tuned hell... and a hilariously bad rap about passing school buses, 'Friday' is something that simply must be seen and heard to be fully appreciated." Ouch.

Rebecca, an eighth grader whose parents financed the recording and the production of her video, recently spoke to website The Daily Beast about the backlash over the song.

"Those hurtful comments really shocked me," she said. "At times, it feels like I'm being cyberbullied."

The song, about teenagers anticipating the weekend and spending time with friends, wasn't even written by Rebecca. In fact, it was part of a package deal her mother paid $2000 to the Ark Music Factory, a small record company in Los Angeles, to produce. After the budding singer passed a casting call she was given the choice between "Friday" and another song, which she felt wasn't relative to her own personality.

"The other song was about adult love–I haven’t experienced that yet," she says.

The company also helped her market her video on YouTube; and after all the negativity the thought of pulling the video did cross her mind. But Rebecca is standing strong and not giving in to "the haters." (We imagine the paycheck after 13 million YouTube views also had something to do with not taking the video down from the site.)

The song is even available on iTunes now.

$2,000.

Well she looked like she was going to break down and cry when the reporter read her the youtube comment.

Package deal for 2000 eh?

"Ok Mrs. Black your daughter gets everything, 4 different sceneries, several of our own kid friends for her to 'party' with. and as a bonus, our songwriter raps for a segment of the song"

I wonder what exactly this means for Ark Music Factory.

Obviously, they're going to get a huge amount of money from the iTunes sales, but it could potentially hurt their bread and butter - naive parents who shell out a couple of grand so their daughters can play pop star. After seeing what Rebecca Black has had to endure, will parents want to potentially put their kids through that?

That said, I do get the impression there are tons of really stupid parents in SoCal who would do anything to get their children famous, so perhaps I'm wrong.

The Temptation of Rebesus?

Having seen part of the GMA interview, this response was hilarious and justifiably angry.
This goes back and forth for awhile, culminating in the reporter asking for the meanest comments Rebecca has received, with the all-important follow up: “Have you cried at all?”

BOOM. Ace FUCKING reporting right there. Anderson Cooper, while you’re getting punched in your pretty boy face, GMA is getting to the bottom of the stories that matter. Think Brian Williams knows how to get the scoop? That suave son of a bitch doesn’t come close to accomplishing the God’s work being done over in this interview.

MUCH worse.....now if only brokencyde would cover it, we truly would have the very worst song of all time.......
Thank god you brought up Brokencyde. I had almost forgotten how absolutely horrible they are.

Okay I'm a bit more calm now, but that quote instantly made me like her better than Bieber (since that's all Bieber tries to sing about).

In fact I feel sorry for Rebecca. Not because she got made fun of (you're going to be made fun of if you post the wrong thing at the wrong time on the internet/YouTube), but because she took it hard and felt really bad about herself (when she's actually a good singer and didn't write the atrocity of a song, like I THINK the My Jeans girl wrote her song).

One thing this has done is that it's given Ark Music Factory some free publicity. With people hearing that all it takes is a couple grand to get your kid a song and a video with the idea that they could make tons of cash....I have a feeling this isn't the last we've heard from Ark Music Factory.

What I wonder is are there any legitimate acts that have come from them or is it all a bunch of wanna-be-hopefuls who went nowhere?

They just opened up earlier this year or late last year. They have videos for most of their "artists" on their YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/trizzy66

There seems to be a mix between parent paid-for songs/videos and actual acts with performing experience. (Some of the videos will have related videos of the singers performing live at things.) But overall they still appear to all be hopefuls.

ROFL i love the Good morning america interview. All the interview is the bitch reading off mean and hurtful shit from youtube right to her face LOL

Thatgirlinpink's FAQ pierced my hardened internet exterior. She's taken it all in her stride and seems like a really nice girl. Good luck to her I say, awkwardly dance on.

So the producerds told pink girl to act silly and weird

Now we can all agree that the video was intended to be viral and the whole plan was for people to laugh at it and get popular that way!

What if the whole point of the video was to target you.

To subliminally give you a message.

It could be something simple.

But it would grow and multiply, until it consumed your mind.

This idea would dictate the the way you act, what kind of person you grew up to be.

They call it......

Aw I can't hate on the girl in pink now, she seems pretty normal.

Wanted crazed personality to perpetuate this madness :(

Oh God Benni is awesome, I'm in love. In a completely appropriate way of course. (for 5 more years, or 3 in the UK)

ROFL...

My favorite part, other than the bowl of cereal and reminding us the order of days in a week, is when she can't decide where to sit in the car:

Which Seat Can You Take? Just Sit the Fuck Down and Go To School

Black sings about making up her mind in regards to which seat she should sit in when her friend's car pulls up before the bus comes. Did it not occur to the people that produced this damn video that if she's 13 years old, both she and her friends aren't old enough to drive yet? And what kid around the age of 13 owns a convertible? What parent in their right mind even lets a 13-year-old kid drive a convertible to school? Rebecca's hanging out with the wrong crowd! Besides, the kid in the driver's seat looks kind of like Justin Bieber, which means he can't possibly be older than 12.

...

She's Still Wondering Which Seat She Can Take

After that, she once again brings up her indecision about what seat she should take. Ugh, shut up about the seat choices! You're already in a damn seat, Rebecca! Leave it alone! Let's jump to what's going on in the music video during the second chorus. Look, there's a whole block of 13-year-olds who are posing like they all drive and own those cars! That neighborhood is just full of irresponsible parents.

Mindless Behavior - My Girl

I just saw that one Muchmusic. I don't even. What. 1 4 3 isn't just a Cody Sampson thing. All you need is the space Twitter allows you to tell you love someone. What. Ahgfdgdsfgsdf. I listen to shit basement music like the Millionaires but at least they have a schtick, but what.

These girls were actually classmates and friends of my niece last year. All talented and great kids. I'd say the production is the culprit. I too had fun laughing at the train wreck of the video I hope the girls don't take it too hard and do something nice with their new found fame.

So basically this record label will bring any child off the streets and onto the stage as long as their parents have the money eh?

Haha "Friday" Unplugged. Amazing.

Best part of this is the creepy white dude on the left high-fiving someone off camera. That unplugged session must have been a fairly momentous occasion in his life.

That Unplugged version was SUCH A LETDOWN.

I was waiting the whole time for the rapper to barge in and kick his verse only to walk out right after. That would have been epic.

But alas, it never came to fruition :(

Jojo sure was a talent. Whatever happened to her?

made a mixtape last year with a weird experimental single called "in the dark" and she will probably release a proper pop record this year.
she vanished because of problems with her record label

I loved Jojo, and I kind of like that she disappeared as quickly as she came. Makes her talent more special in my opinion, since it wasn't plastered all over everywhere for years and years and years.

But she's got a new album coming out so I'm excited :)
