If you don't like current Konami, you SHOULD buy MGSV

i wanna boycott because i cant stand metal gear anymore, may change my mind though. Quite's jammy knockers are selling on the game.

Even though everything Konami did Kojima said he and his team still wanted to make a good game for fans. And that's why, out of respect for Kojima and the fact that I do want to experience the last MGS by Kojima, I'll buy Phantom Pain. Enjoy the $60 bucks Konami, it's the last of my money you'll ever see.

I'll just slap this over the cover and forget Konami ever existed.
Kojima is still actively promoting the game. Obviously he wants people to enjoy what he worked so hard on. To boycott this game seems more like a "fuck you" to Kojima and not Konami.

I was gonna check it out on release but after all the Konami BS I can just wait a bit for a sale. I'm not the biggest MGS fan and I'm honestly more interested in the multiplayer.

Ok, but I'm going to buy used anyway.

The CEO and Board made their decision long ago before new vs used factored into the discussion.

I care about my pocket, not theirs. Big Japanese corporation involved in many lines of business doesn't care about me, the American, personally.

However, I'm printing a cover that correctly credits Kojima.

So you obviously care about Kojima given the bolded. Do you think Kojima/KojiPro would rather you buy it new or used?

It doesn't matter. The Publisher funds the Developer. KojiPro is not the publisher.

If Kojima was directly profiting from every copy of Metal Gear Solid 5 sold, your argument would have weight. They are contracted by Konami and Konami is no longer in the games business. Why should I help a defunct publisher who clearly had no respect for their talent?

Let's cut to the chase and stop with this whole charade.

99.9% of people who claim to be boycotting this game won't.

How many examples of failed "boycotts" do we need before everyone realizes this?

I want to play the game, but I don't want Konami to get my money. Buying it used is the perfect solution and it counts as boycott in my eyes.

It doesn't matter how the game sells. Konami is not going to stop being a terrible company. They've been terrible for years now. They cancelled what was probably the most exciting project I've seen in years, because they don't want to bother with the proper video game business anymore. Buying a copy of MGSV isn't going to change that.

I'm not going to say I'm going to boycott MGSV. It looks great, and I really want to play it. I am, however, going to wait until I can buy a used copy, because I'm never giving another dime to Konami. OP, your essentially arguing that we should reward a terrible company for acting like a terrible company, which makes zero sense.

So you obviously care about Kojima given the bolded. Do you think Kojima/KojiPro would rather you buy it new or used?
I'd say they probably don't give a damn either way, since they've all been fired.

Kojima and the team that worked on the game aren't getting a lick of the money made from sales of the game.

I'm not fucking rewarding Konami $60 for acting like monsters.

I'll pick it up used or in a few years when it's bargain bin priced.

If you want to protest them, don't buy whatever new shit they spew out after MGS5 comes out.

Easily done, they don't have shit anymore.

I'm buying MGS5 because it's the last true Metal Gear Solid game. If you want to protest them, don't buy whatever new shit they spew out after MGS5 comes out.

Yeah I'm sure if the game sold 0 copies KojiPro would be fine with it. They got paid and now they're fired. They don't care anymore.

Is anyone actually going to boycott, though?

Yeah I'm sure if the game sold 0 copies KojiPro would be fine with it. They got paid and now they're fired. They don't care anymore.

I really wouldn't be surprised if Konami had an agreement with secondhand shops that included places like Gamestop or Amazon requiring a percentage of their used games sales to go back to Konami.

I don't know if that's the case, but yeah I don't intend on giving 60 dollars to Konami for the way they handled everything.

I don't think that's boycotting so much as simply not buying something because you're not interested in it lol

like I'm not gonna go and buy a Friends dvd box set, not because I'm boycotting it but because I think it's shit

Moshi Moshi? Kochira Yamato, I was the leading and creative director of many successful projects, may I take your message?
*hungs up
Yamato-san: Somebody kill me now or I'll commit sudoku.
The funny thing is that this joke won't work for long because Konami is losing all their talent.

If I buy it new will they bring back Kojima? No? I'm buying used.

If you buy it used will that affect Konami negatively in any way? Other than confirming their doubts about the profitability of console gaming, no.

This is 5 years of passion from Kojima Productions, it would be a bigger statement to Konami when people buy MGSV in droves but the next one, sans Kojima, tanks hard

"I'm mad that Konami is treating Kojima badly so I won't buy Kojima's game even though he wants me to"

My man. Emphasis on the bolded. People are acting like KojiPro doesn't care if the game they've worked hard and passionately for 5+ years sells well because they don't profit from more sales.

This is true. Fans can let Konami know that they don't appreciate the decision when discussions of a new Metal Gear game pop up.

But, that would be applicable if Konami was interested in making videogames anymore.

I never said I wasn't buying the damn game. I said I'll buy it used. Deal with it.

Pull your head out of the ground and open your eyes. Konami doesn't care about videogames. Why should I care about Konami?

I mean we're all just giving them more capital for their pachinko machines but it's MGSV. Hard to say no to the end of a series. Well a second end to the series, hopefully a good one this time.

They're already hiring for a MGS reboot or something IIRC
I'm sure everyone would prefer their game be bought new than used (because don't used games not count towards sales numbers? I may be wrong though), but yeah whatever I'm not gonna keep arguing. Sorry if I've been annoying btw :^)

I think the game is going to do great regardless of who is publishing it. Those who enjoy the franchise, go and buy it.

Personally, I do like it, but I am not going to buy it (have only played Ground Zeroes, which was free on PS+, and Peace Walker).

I only have a budget of both time and money (money because I'm waiting for the winter releases) for probably Mad Max. Sure Mad Max is an open world and will take much longer (speculation) to beat, but it provides the GTA effect of just playing one mission (or going on a rampage) without being wholly engrossed in the story.

Why not just send Kojima a C note in the mail? Or better yet, fund his eventual kickstarter?

There's a million ways to thank Kojima & co, now and in the future. A soulless corporation restructuring itself away from console gaming and one by one laying off all our favorite studios isn't going to give a damn either way if you buy it or not. At this point they're just recouping their investment / funding in a business line they no longer will be supporting.

I've been Day 1 for MGS 2, 3, 4, and Peace Walker.

I don't want to support a publisher that doesn't care anymore.

I would hope most people understood that.

MGS is also open world. I have my doubt's about Mad Max being longer. Looks great though.

I'm buying it new, possibly twice, because I love Metal Gear and Kojima's team is pouring their heart into this. Also, crucially, I think I'll enjoy it.

If you like Metal Gear or think you would enjoy the game, but are boycotting, it's time to grow up. The original post nailed this one.

If you don't like MGS, don't buy it.
If you like Kojima and MGS, buy it.

This shouldn't even be a debate, not buying it to spite Konami because of Kojima is stupid.
End of story.

I say people should buy the game simply because Kojima poured his fucking heart into this thing and it seems it'll be the best in the series at least from a gameplay perspective.

I decide to honor Kojima that way. YES Konami may get the profits but I'm sure Kojima would love to see fans of this series buy his finale of the series in droves.

Part of me is conflicted... On one hand I HATE THE WAY Konami handled all of this. The disrespect shown to Kojima is so bad I'll never support this corporation again. On the the other hand, this is Kojima's final Metal Gear, in my opinion so I want to pay my respects.

Buying this game new gives Konami what they want as it boosts their profit margins and helps their financial outlook to analysts. This is a non issue if Konami makes this the final Kojima Metal Gear tour and keeps everything in house. However, they created this problem and deserve punishment from me in some capacity even if it comes in the form of a used sale they do not reap benefit from.

Sales of MGSV will affect nothing. What I would like to confirm though is Webster any of the actual people who worked on the game get bonuses or the like if the game sells well, or if anything happens since Kojimas team was axed after this project right?

Sorry for the stupid question, this whole debacle made me so apathetic towards Konami I stopped trying to keep up with it a while ago.

I want MGSV too much to bother to get it pre-owned. I was fairly happy with just cancelling my Collector's Edition.

Konami will suffer their losses, at least as far as gaming is concerned, without me having to exude any effort. Looking at their track record I am sure about that.

I've never boycotted video games because that is stupid. If I want the game I'll buy it regardless of the publisher behind it. Perceived mistreatment towards Kojima by Konami is far, far down my list of things to give a shit about.

I totally understand that. I'm also a big MGS fan but I can't be bothered to let any moral or ethical stance delay me from playing the game. It just won't make a difference and no message will be received by Konami either way. Why punish myself? If you wish to wait that's your decision. Nothing wrong with that at all. Just a wee bit silly from my perspective as a big fan of the franchise. At least doing it your way, any bugs and issues should be patched by then ;)

Konami doesn't give a shit, they just want this game out, Kojima gone, and to leave the console business so they can focus more on mobile/gambling.

I played Ground Zeroes and loved it, so naturally I've bought The Phantom Pain. I don't like what happened with Kojima and Konami, but it's quite possibly the last Metal Gear ever, and I know it will be great after the shitshow MGS4 was.

With the exception of MGS5 however, I can't remember which was the last Konami title I bought, and I don't plan to support them on mobile, so...

But I haven't liked Konami since the late 90's! And I even bought all the garbage contra games on ps1 just for the potential of a brighter future. And here we are...

Eff Konami.

man i fucking hate those ads on youtube.
now if you will excuse me, i will click on them so they stop bothering me.

This thread is hilarious really

Konami isn't going to care about this "message" you're sending them by not buying
Kojima was paid salary so he won't get a cut
Wtf buying it used is a poor excuse for anything
Konami was leaving the game industry so why continue to keep Kojima on
