It's a shame really because RE5 could have been much better, I really think the demo is going to hurt their sales (similarly to how Lost Planet hurt their sales).
and yes I know Lost Planet sold well, I'm not predicting RE5 to sell badly just that it would have sold better if the controls were more accessible outside the RE4 audience.
I haven't played the game so I can't argue about where it is set, but this point is little off (and can't let it slide since I'm a demographics/culture boreOldschoolgamer said:For starters, Africa isn't anywhere near 95% black. The actual percentage is in the high 70's IIRC. Sure, SA has the most, but it's juvenile to even begin to say that they only live in SA. I even gave you an example just now. Whatever though.
I refuse to settle for less!Rez>You said:Failure to the nth degree.
They don't need fixing. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Save us the tears.
Rez>You said:That is a bit suspect.
Oh and the article was written by Cam Shea. He's usually not too bad, I remember him from back a loooong time ago in the Nintendo Gamer days (I think it was NG anyway).

Is it so hard to believe that Northern Africa (the area that was scouted by the RE5 team) is ethnically diverse? Considering places like Egypt and Libya are in Northern Africa and other Mediterranean countries within fairly close distance of it; that was a ridiculous point to make.
EDIT: Honestly, i'm a little offended.

The problem with the demo is that it's just that, a demo. You're not given time to really become accustomed to the controls or the somewhat unique play style.shidoshi said:I loved Resident Evil 4. I've loved most of the games in the series (though I don't have the obsession with RE2 that other crazy people do), but I mean I really god-damn loved RE4.
I played the RE5 demo, and was completely baffled. Either something has gone horribly wrong, or I somehow forgave RE4 for having utterly shit control if it at all controlled the same way RE5 does. To be fair, I didn't play the demo for long, but I mean I hated the control to such a point that seriously started to worry, as RE5 is easily one of my most-wanted games for the year.

On the other hand, analog movement has been overdue since REmake, if not earlier. There's no reason to have a "run" button a decade after analog sticks became standard on console controllers.
...
...and my take on the "black zombies" thing: they missed a huge opportunity. The negative publicity would've kicked this game's sales into high gear, a la killing hookers in GTAIII. And they wouldn't even be in the wrong, just like they weren't when it was first shown. Black zombies in Africa is just as okay as Spanish zombies in Spain.
didn't know thatMorph-0 said:ok there wasn't a need for a run button when you have analogue but did IGN realise that you can also run by clicking in the left analogue stick?
Oldschoolgamer said:And besides. Why the hell would I care about the color of the zombies I've been killing. I've been annihilating multicolored zombies since Resident Evil 2.

Playing through the full game could fix this for some, although if you're really worried you could always just rent it and see.![]()

Fair enough. I wouldn't surprised though, what with Capcom's track record.CrushDance said:Just a blog post I came across![]()

Well clearly there must be some reason for the threads constantly getting "shitterized," no? So many people take issue with the controls but they can't possibly be right; Capcom and the RE5 Defense Force know best.Rez>You said:It was a sweeping statement; I'm still bitter from the shitting up of the demo thread and the inevitable shitterizing of the official thread.![]()

1) Inventory System Kinks
(Moving stuff around the grid isn't in the demo from what we can see, but trust us it's in the full game.)
That's good stuff, but there are some small niggles. Let's say you have a green herb in the down position on the grid. Hitting down in the game simply equips it into your hand. Want to use it? You can't once it's in your hand you have the option to either heal your partner or give it to your partner.
Bring back the herbs in all their easy-to-distinguish-colour-coded glory!
2) Running With Scissors
Oh, and while we're on the subject of melee combat Capcom! Where's the intensity? Remember the suplex move from RE4 where you could burst an enemy's head like a ripe melon? Well, there's no sign of anything like that yet in RE5.
3) Enemy Difficulty
Granted, it's about overwhelming numbers more than it's about intelligence, but the enemies in RE5 feel a little watered down next to their more aggressive RE4 brethren.
4) The Run Button
5) Stay True to the Setting
