[IGN First] Assassin's Creed Syndicate New Gameplay

"You can't draw conclusions about the current version of the game from current footage" defies logic, I agree.
So what's your aim here exactly? Are you insinuating that the game is gonna be downgraded or that Ubisoft, ton of journalists, and the thousands of fans, the numerous LP'ers, who've played the game so far are lying about having played the PS4 version? Or that a game s gonna be changed heavily visually one month from release. In a series where that has never occurred ever, not to mention how they've been incredibly transparent about the development of the game compared to previous entries. So I ask, what exactly is the aim here? "B-b-but they demoed that one game on PC, never insinuated that it was console footage, and told people about it when asked but still it was on pc and not console but still I assumed it was console footage" isn't exactly a compelling reason to believe that this isn't PS4 footage, especially when compared to the logic of the bolded.

I have no "aim". I'm simply saying that pre-release footage -- as in, any pre-release footage of any game -- shouldn't be considered gospel and no conclusions should be made vis-a-vis the final product until there is actually footage of the final product. That isn't a notion you ought to find offensive.

Edit:

Oh, please. There's no need to be condescending; I've not shown you even a sliver of indecency. If that's the way you want to behave -- framing me as an stammering idiot because we don't agree on something -- I think we're done here.

To be honest, I lost a lot of my excitement for the AC series after they fucked up and quit doing the present day storyline. That was the original thing that got me into the series because I found the whole setup very interesting... and I actually liked the present day characters (even Desmond). The idea that it was eventually going to lead into a present day AC game with Desmond as the main character was pretty exciting for me, but they clearly gave up on that. It's a shame because it had such potential had they not decided to milk the series into an annual thing.

I know a lot of people hated the present day stuff, but I loved it. Or.. at least the idea of it. They never executed it quite right though.

I also really enjoyed it. For me it's been on a downhill since they lost the modern plot line.

BF was good fun despite the poor plot. Kenway was a likeable character and the ship combat was decent. I couldn't get into Unity at all though. Tried again recently after a trip to Paris. While it looks great, I just can't get into the story at all. Don't think it performs all that well, don't like the multiplayer element and the modern plot line is rubbish/non-existent. Oh and the collectables....

I admit I was more irate than I usually am with that post. And for that I apologize, I do not consider you to be an idiot at all. But the point is, the game is a little over a month before release. If the game was still half a year-->several years and anywhere in-between before the expected the release I'd agree with you. A few months ago I actually agreed with your notion when the game looked like this when it was first announced, as in, it looked vastly inferior to the footage we have now.

I understand that you've "enjoyed" a history of people dismissing and mocking your posts because of your enthusiasm for Ubisoft's catalogue, but when we started this back-and-forth I categorically stated that using the PC version for early footage is common practice among publishers, so you shouldn't have inferred that I was in here to shit up the thread about how Ubisoft is evil and untrustworthy.

I agree that it's unlikely the game will prove to be dramatically different this close to release. I just think it's best to exercise some degree of caution.

I still honest to God don't understand the appeal of this series.

It's fun to jump around in exceedingly well-realised recreations of historical periods. I'd even be perfectly happy with an AssCreed game that was all collectables and no story. ;) I, for one, am glad that Ubi didn't go ahead with an AssCreed game set primarily in the modern world.

Why does Ubisoft now treat the modern day timeline like a bad smell?

Is it because some vocal minority bitched about it back in AssCreed 1, 2 and spinoff days?

What the fuck is the narrative point of these games if the modern timeline goes absolutely nowhere. I don't think I'll be interested much in AC until the form a coherent plot there.

I feel like I've been denied any payoff after being quite invested in that aspect of the game.

Yes publishers have a tendency to be misleading, but I tend to have the benefit of the doubt, (Batman Arkham Knight reportedly ran terribly on ps4 at a preview event apparently, so showing it on pc doesn't bother me since the actual game was fixed), some more than others once the realities of development set in after a vertical slice or in-engine tech demo. It was mainly the pc thing that bothered me since the Sony marketing is pretty obvious with each demo being shown on ps4. Story is a big factor with this series so I certainly wouldn't purchase one with no story.

When JaseC & Crossing Eden start arguing about demo footage, all hope is lost. There are so few Assassin's Creed franchise fans left around here.

I'm excited. And if it was all collectibles in London, I'd be perfectly fine. Jump around, jump around!

The is the first Assassin's Creed game that I don't really care about going in. Usually the series captures my interest and is great like AC II, AC IV or totally flops like III or Unity.

Having just played open world games like Batman Arkham Knight and Metal Gear Solid V. This Assassin's Creed looks extra clunky by comparison.

As per usual, I LOVE the setting. More so this year because it's London which I've been waiting for.

The series needs to piss off for a few years and then come back full of energy.

The amusing thing about Arkham Knight is that the PC version ended up releasing in an absolute mess of a state while the PS4 version is virtually perfect, haha. Something went very wrong in the year between E3 2014 and the game's release.

That's some insane irony. Fuck WB.

It was mainly about semantics, not necessarily about the content of the video itself. This video didn't really tell us anything new about the game besides the fact that they fixed Jacob's animations. The director's commentary implies that we'll see a different version focusing on stealth since this is "the direct approach."

I really enjoyed Unity but I got it when it was much cheaper, patched and with all content released. I imagine I'll do the same with this one.

AC just doesn't excite anymore compared with other releases. I mean I've wanted a Victorian London setting for ages and now it's here I've practically ignored it...

Baha, yeah I know- I'm just joking around. It's a funny thing when you've been a fan from the first title, and have just watched these threads unfold across the years. I think I expect that you'll both be here, and I enjoy that- just because many people here think that the annual release schedule has really stagnated the series. I remember how many were really disappointed by AC3, and then the revival with 4. And since then, those Unity threads were really something else.

I don't know what it is, but I love coming back every year to the franchise. There's a sense of familiarity, a real comfort in attempting to unlock all those chests for no reason other than being an insane collector, and for exploring and traversing beautiful new historic places. I love the edits on the trailers they put out every year, the slightly altered combat, the differences in traversal as the series evolved. I always feel a bit disappointed by the stories in the games, but it's the character movement I really dig- parkour and pretty places, I guess.

In this year's iteration, it looks like the developers were trying to shake it up a bit. I love the setting, love the way Evie's sections will definitely play differently, the fist fighting combat, the grappling- big changes. Some see staleness but I'm so looking forward to exploring London streets. I like my annual AC fix!

I too enjoy iterative titles, although you definitely won't see me complaining when there are complete overhauls to the game systems and engine like with ACRev-3 and AC4-ACU. And this game does seem like a pretty decent shakeup despite obviously running on the same engine as last year's title. Mainly because they don't seem to be taking away, (like how AC4 had way less melee combat options than AC3 and less customization), but because they're adding their own take on existing systems and changing others based on feedback, (like having soft cover instead of hard cover and a much easier window traversal system). People say "other companies are doing the ubisoft thing better," but I always disagree, because the way they build these huge cities and allow us to actually interact directly with the geometry of the world is pretty much unparalleled at this point.

To be honest I only truly enjoyed AC2. The first one was incredibly impressive in terms of graphics and the climbing but the game itself rather boring. Never cared much for Revelations and Brotherhood. 3 was meh, Black Flag had its great things, mostly on sea, cause on land...boy did it become a chore after a while. Franchise fatigue for me kicked in a long time ago.

Ubi should give AC a much needed break and bring Prince of Persia back. But that won't happen, cause Ubi said AC was relevant enough for a yearly release and also that they would be crazy not to release one every year. Sigh.

How come Ezio gets 3 games but Edward only 1?

He's so boring.

More Edward or throw this series in the trash

Ezio was actually the only character that I really liked. He was cool, had charme, and was blessed with the best games in the series. Everything afterwards...look where it brought us^^

I don't even remember who Edward was. Was it the pirate?

The epitome of boredom. Man the series fatigue has hit me hard with this. There was not a single iota in me that was excited for a millisecond.....and this is coming from someone who actually enjoyed unity.

Couldn't agree more.
