IGN Lists Top 50 Sci-Fi Shows. Come laugh at #1

Torchwood is WAY too damn high.

Also, you telling me that you're gonna put Transformers, the Jetsons, and Clone Wars on that list, but nothing from the Gundam franchise, the DC Animated Universe (Batman:TAS to Justice League Unlimited), or Samurai Jack?

They didn't even pick the GOOD Clone Wars series.

BSG at its peak is better than any television sci-fi ever made.

But the entire body of work? Probably not. That said, I'm not going to take issue with it being number 1 on some random IGN list.
 
always thought this was a cool show when i was little. not "top 50" material, but fun.

wtf is lost doing in the top ten? i know i said list making is shit but cmon.

also next generation, red dwarf, x-files, and farscape need to be higher

And better than many dramas as well. When it was at peak powers. Sadly, it did not always get the recognition it deserved because it was a sci fi show.
 
I didn't mind the religious overtones in BSG. What bothered me was the terrible execution. The reveal of the opera house was just the icing on top.
 
Firefly and X-Files are 2 of my favorite TV shows ever. I've only seen the Atlantis spin off BS and it did nothing for me. I still need to get around to watching Dr. Who

Atlantis is terrible. Just bad. There were a few decent episodes here and there, but it was just bad.

SG-1 may not be high art or great drama like many other shows on the list, but it was at least consistent in quality for several years. It may not have reached the highs of X-Files, TNG, or BSG, but it kept a pretty consistent level of quality for the first 7 years of its run. The last three years were more off and on.
 
It still amazes me just how right they got everything in STTNG. IMO It is so much better than everything that came before or after.

You really don't remember all the stuff about SETI and messages from space and The Giant and The Black Lodge and time warps and so on?

Watch it again. It is sci-fi as much as it is anything else.

Apparently I didn't update after that. lol. Anyway, S9 and S10 don't deserve the hate they get. There are good episodes in those seasons. An episode I can remember from S10, 200, I'd add to the list of my favorite episodes. Can't remember any from season 9.

I don't remember a message from space, however the black lodge and the giant don't strike me as sci-fi at all, even something like the red room is more magical and fantasy than anything that is pretending to be scientific. Where is the science in this science fiction?

I think my avatar gives away my opinion on what should be number one. I love Battlestar a lot, but I would put Twilight Zone and Star Trek ahead of it. Glad to see Firefly up there, though. Cowboy Bebop is nice to see also.

Yeah, you are being a bit rigid for someone who obviously missed so much.

TP features psychic powers, portals between worlds, time loops, alien intelligence and more.

Also, genre isn't an either/or proposition.
 
Weird list, but it's IGN.

Lost should have been much higher, Star Trek for crying out loud should be higher, Quantum Leap deserves every award it gets, and so on and forth.
 
Even though I loved BSG and will defend it's finale as fantastic television, it did have it's faults when staring the face of the entire series that does put it a few slots down on the list. But yea I would put the Twilight Zone at Number 1, it did so much for television and even film to come after it. Star Trek would be number 2, I'm no trekkie, but it, like the Twilight Zone, did so much more in defining Sci-Fi for everything to come after it.

I dont have issue with XFiles, TNG or Twilight Zone being in the top 5. I LOVE Qunatum Leap, and it is a top 25 show, but maybe not top 5. First seasons of Lost...eh, top 25 again.
 
Top 3 of any sci-fi list would be a combination of Star Trek, Twilight Zone and Doctor Who. No other shows have had a bigger impact on how Sci-Fi is done than these.

This is the truth. Any of those shows in whatever order for the top 3. While I think TNG is better than TOS, TOS is more influential.

And looking back at the list, I am happy to see the original V miniseries at #14.

I'm ashamed to admit I have not watched one second of mystery theatre. I've heard plenty of mixed opinions (from red dwarf fans no less) but yeah, it never aired when I was into Red Dwarf and my bias is almost certainly set.
