Hi! I left the message below on the news story linked in the OP, but I figured I should leave it here as well:
"I understand why someone would consider what we discussed newsworthy, but this story completely ignores an important piece of context: We didn't trust these sources enough to run a story on IGN."
For the life of me I still can't wrap my head around what the "QoL platform" would even be like.
The information we have doesn't paint a cohesive picture of anything. Nintendo is basically teasing us with The King in Yellow and we're all gonna lose our minds just from trying to figure out what any of this could possibly mean.
- Not a portable.
- Not a wearable.
- Not something that would displace or directly compete the Wii U or 3DS.
- ...But it still has to mesh with the rest of their ecosystem to some extent.
- Implied to have connections to things like health, entertainment, education, exercise, cooking, and domestic stuff.
- Stands on its own enough that it's considered a "platform" and not just a new group of software and peripherals for existing systems.
Don't the current Wii Us have this? Mine does and I know it came out of the box that way...
Okay, that probably narrows the possibilities down to Chii from Chobits, Andrew from Bicentennial Man, or a physical manifestation of Hastur. Maybe it's all three and those are just the different SKUs available at launch.
Nintendo will reveal new hardware at E3, a third-party publishing source has told VideoGamer.com.
Games compatible with the hardware will also be playable at the show, our source says, with the hardware believed to be linked to system specs leaked earlier in the year.
Those specs suggest that the hardware will be formed of two parts - a 'Fusion DS' and a 'Fusion Terminal' - and be a successor to the platform holder's struggling Wii U.
Our source's comments tally with those made by IGN earlier today who revealed that they had "heard rumours that Nintendo might be showing hardware at E3".
"They are absolutely going to show new hardware this year, there is no doubt in my mind..." said IGN's Peer Schneider. "I've heard it from multiple people now. I've heard it from someone who used to be at Nintendo, I've heard it from somebody on the third-party front."
The site then speculates that Nintendo could reveal a new peripheral or hardware revision rather than a new console.
Nintendo told VideoGamer.com that it does not comment on rumour or speculation when contacted about the story earlier today.
The platform holder is set to host its E3 digital event on Tuesday, June 10.

Some news site is gonna post this as real now, hahaha. It's happening.

What's the point? PS4 owners are already enjoying Knack.

Thanks but what I expect from IGN is to hear things like 'Don't expect revisions to 3DS hardware' in the same month the 3DS XL appears.

That's nice but Nintendo does care they're running a business.
If Nintendo is smart they'll stop doing home consoles and handhelds and just have 1 platform a la Android.

Videogamer.com apparently also has a source telling them there will be hardware at E3: http://www.videogamer.com/news/nintendo_will_reveal_new_hardware_at_e3.html
Of course they do. And it will be QoL related.
Contrary to public believe QoL will be gaming related. They statet this multiple times. QoL is set to release later this year or early 2015, so of course they will show it at E3. I am pretty certain the following schedule will be the one we get.
QoL Introduction: E3 2014 (Fitness, education etc will be coming in the next years)
QoL: Release: Late 2014 / early 2015
4DS Introduction: E3 2015
4DS Release: Winter 2015 / Spring 2016
Wii3 Introduction: E3 2016
Wii3 Release: Winter2016 / Spring 2017
You must have some freak ass alien phone home shit fingers and hands going on because while I don't mind it I constantly feel like I am about to snap the analog sticks and holding it comfortably for access to everything takes some prep. The tablet controller?
Hey man, I get it. Sometimes we get it wrong. I'm just making sure folks have full context about what we said on the show.

QoL.

Dang if this is true, Wii U is already on its way out or something. That's a really big blow to people who invested in it. Still, may be a necessary evil considering how poorly it is doing.

I'm only kidding, but if you get any official denials, make sure they're real denials and not just swerving around the question

Jose is trying to blind us!
You are definitely wrong on the hand held and console distinction. I'd bet everything on the next console and hand held launching side by side with unified architecture. Share some type of brand. iPad/iPhone. Game boy/GameCube. The traditional gaming market isn't big enough for Nintendo.
QOL for edutainment and fitness.
Handheld/Console hardwares that play traditional games.

No, the Wii U has some built in flash memory.
flash memory =/= HDD
But I think what he really means by hard drive is "more than 32 GB of space".

What about a cheap Wii U model that includes a balance board and some type of upgraded Fit Meter-type attachment. No gamepad included, one Wiimote, specialized QOL OS.
