IGN speculates on Wii's price and release date.

Wait, why the hell is everyone saying "2 Wiimotes in a package"?

Why the hell does anyone think Nintendo will do that?

Because Nintendo seem to be stressing the "We" "Wii" aspect...the i's in "Wii" signify 2 Wii controllers...

Lots of the Wii promotional material seems to stress multi-player use...all the Wii Sports titles (except the Airplane), ExciteTruck, even Mario Galaxy has 2 people playing it not one.

It's not that far-fetched once you realize...that there is a possibility that Nintendo is going to be bundling...

i think 230 is definitly pushing it, but it's not a bad enough rip off to make me wait or really make me angry... I was expecting 200.

If they bundle some nice stuff with it, it would be more more acceptable.

ugg just stop using MS overpriced accesories as a justifacation for a $229 gamecube turbo.

DS has wifi in it so I guess the rest of the hardware is $30? :lol

So you agree that a GC turbo should cost $150? So they are charging $80 more than that if this is true.

So for $80 you get:
Wifi
512MB of flash
flash drive
1 speaker
2 motion sensors
sensor bar
All wireless

So classing the Wii as a rip off is a bit premature. When we dont even know if a classic controller will be sold with the Wii.

Well for one it is called "Wii" and because $230 seems much for nothing extra.

It would be retarded to have the name of your console based off of the amount of controllers inside a package.

And $230 sounds good enough for a new videogame console compared to $400 and $600.

Don't a lot of console promotional videos feature multiple people playing on a console? And those Wii E3 videos seemed to promote the idea that it has a broad sense of appeal and anyone can get into it, not "WE HAVE TWO CONTROLLERS."

$230 would be a great price. If it comes w/ 2 wiimotes, that sweetens things quite a bit!! Regardless of price, I'm there day one!

no if you read my other posts in the thread I think $230 is about right (if it comes with 2 controllers)

MSFT is perfectly reasonable to use. That's how much it costs to get non-warrantly voiding, licensed WiFi connectivity. Overpriced or not. 64MB of flash RAM will set you back about 40 dollars too. That is the precedent that has been set.

MS is now setting precedents in the gaming industry? o dear :lol

company A ripping you off does not give company B a right to in my book. Most rational people would agree that MS pricing on the wifi adapter and memory card is ridiculous. That does not give nintendo a free pass.

of course this all depends on if this is true at all, and what is included in the package.

Never said what MSFT was charging wasn't a ripoff. I'm just saying that is what it takes to get those items. That's why I said "overpriced or not."

But anyway, I think your first point makes arguing irrelevant. $230 is fine. Especially considering it is unofficial, we don't know how much R&D is, we don't know what will be in the package, and it is below Nintendo's $250 price ceiling.

:lol @ that seperation of "features".

You did ask.

I asked because that was a pretty terrible delineation of features.

I was thinking perhaps you got something additional with the console.

Article removed, so this is probably for real.

Alternately, it could be not real, and they took it down because Nintendo conmtacted them and said "Uh, that information is all wrong." Hard to say either way just from the fact that they removed it.

Why not separate them, surely you can accept that the Wii controller cost far more to make than a regular controller. And i did not call then "features". I just listed the additional stuff that is on the Wii that add up to off set that $80.

You say stop using MS's abnsurd accessory prices, but the Wii controller being $50 isnt so far fetched.

I'm not complaining about the controller; I simply wanted to know if I had missed something with "flash drive."

Fair enough, perhaps my wording was a bit misleading. Sorry about that.

No...not a lot of console promotion's have multiple people playing the console. And no I'm not saying the promotional video's mean...2 controllers just saying...they are putting across a sense that Nintendo will push for multiplayer...and as you say broad appeal certainly.

The controllers will have to be cheap ofcourse...but knowing Nintendo there is will be a negative attached to the positive if there is one...:)

Don't forget the screws, plastic, cables, box, and instruction books.

Azazela said:
Scews? Plastic? Cables? Damn now I don't feel so bad about paying $600 for a PS3.

It is why Sony said the PS3 is actually too cheap. They are eating all those costs to bring you the system at that low price.

Just looking back at the games shown and played thus far on the Wii...

No one has brought up the fact that none of the games shown or demo'ed actually use the sensor bar...:) Now something that has struck me...is none of the games shown are all that...inspiring in a new controller sort of way...I mean they're cool and all but it's not ground-breaking. We have't seen true 3d movement in the Wii games something that was promised...

Not to mention Pixart's "Multi Object Tracking" Technology has not been fully explained or shown...and has only been mentioned...

I know it going to sound stupid but I feel Nintendo and co still have a couple of secrets to unveil and we haven't see all that has to be seen in terms of what the Wii has to offer...even at such a late stage and launch only 3 months away...:)

The whole...multiplayer and off-screen comments really seem to still stick out like a thorn in my mind...I like what I have seen of the Wii thus far but somehow I have this feeling we haven't seen everything...

Is it just me?

Are you serious?

Conspiracy! It was actually just Yamauchi dangling above E3 controlling every game! Nobody was playing! It was all an illusion!

Actually, the sensor bar was used in any pointing-related game.

All was not what it seemed...Wii dummies...GCN console's really running the actual Wii games...etc etc...

mario galaxy pointer running on magic confirmed?

did they use the same magic engine for Zelda bow and arrow, metroid aiming and red steel shooting? Perhaps miyamotos pointer demo software was also running same engine.

this could be worth $30 dollars alone.

It was running on stars...:)

Me likes how you grouped together...all the point n click games as if that's what the sensor is really for...and sure it looks like the obvious answer...

Do you think SMG/Metroid/Zelda will have a "Sensor bar" needed logo at the back of the game box? :)

Actually, most of the games use the sensor bar and true 3D movement is demoed in the fishing demo and Metroid Prime 3.

It's up to the software how to handle offscreen, and what multiplayer comments are you talking about?

Those were early Wii devkits in a GC housing.

I distinctly remember Retro talking that the placement of the sensor bar wouldn't matter in the final game... But for the E3 demo it needed to be above the TV.

There were also impressions were people trying to play the Wii were told to point at the sensor bar in some games...

You're the one missing something here.

Says who?

Where have you read that these games need the sensor bar?

Numerous comments...Kaplin, Ubisoft, Pixart...

Yes we know this...

Have you actually played those games anyway?

The Wii can't sense the movement of the remote without the sensor bar. Nunchuck has the same accelemotors as the PS3 controller if I'm correct.

Yeah, but I think the remote has the same accelemotors so a game that just uses it for tilting doesn't need the sensor bar. Games that used the remote as a pointer (Metroid, etc) needs the sensor bar.

what the hell are you on about? what do you mean the "as if that's what the sensor bar is really for..... and sure it looks like the obvious answer....."

you read like a conspiracy theorist, what's it for then ordering pizza?

jesus, this thread went to hell extremely fast.

are we really discusing if the Wii really needs the sensor bar?

omg...

Apenheul said:

Oui...

I played Metroid and SMG but not Zelda as I didn't want to spoil it for when I get it...:)

I found Metroid a little unresposive and very sensitive in certain situations...atleast in turning-wise...or if I was pointing somewhere. SMG was just perfect...and very straight-forward.

I didn't really take notice of the sensor bar and everything...just stood where I was told to stand and got playing...If I could do it again...I'd test out distances etc...

@Chû Totoro: Not every game needs the sensor bar according to Nintendo...thus my original comment...I believe there is another use for the sensor bar which has not been given yet.

@catfish: Hehe...sure...that and to prove the Wii is more powerful then the 360 and PS3 combined...don't ya know!!!
