IGN: The Best 6 Assassin's Creed Games

Revelations is way better than AC1. Sorry, but that's an insta-fail

1) ACB
2) AC2
3) ACR
4) AC3
5) AC

Haven't played 4 yet

Here's my list:

1: Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
2. Assassin's Creed 2.

These are the only two I don't despise (have yet to play Black Flag), so I refuse to include the rest.

Wow, why is 4 that bad? Hard to imagine how it could be worse than AC3.

It's basically AC 3.1 with only a new feature; diving.
The story is a disaster, the characters are boring and they completely ruined the present story which is what i most cared about.

Also, i don't like pirate theme/settings. Ship batles were boring since 3.
The cities are pretty boring as well.

1) Brotherhood
2) AC2
3) AC3
4) Revelations
5) AC1

Haven't played) AC4: Black Flag

My list is the only objectively correct list of subjective opinions.

I wanted to come in here and say, hey, why is there no love for liberation, why am i the only one with it on a list....but, ya know. Vita.

No way Revelations is below 3. It's the point at which the 2 trilogy started to stagnate a bit, but it was still a great game.

Ass Creed 2 > Ass Creed Bro > Ass Revelations > Ass Creed > Ass Liberation > Ass Creed 3

Hoping Ass Flag is at least as good as the 2 sequels.

Aren't you the guy who said he only watched a Youtube playthrough? I don't think you can rank the games accurately without playing ACIV man.

*Have not played Black Flag yet*

Ive only found AC2 to be the only truly great game in this series, the other ones were merely good or almost great but just fall short of being truly memorable

I understand people love 2 for some reason so I'll compromise and leave it at #1. After that should be the first game though because that was the only one with any ambition to be something great behind it. They had the right ideas in that game that should been expanded on in future games instead of what the series (and all ubisoft open world games) became.

Obviously we're excluding 4 from the conversation since most of us haven't played it yet.
I don't agree, but I definitely appreciate where you're coming from. The first just wasn't a very enjoyable experience, but you're right - you could see the ambition; what they were going for. A lot of that was certainly lost in the games that followed, though I really liked 2 and Brotherhood regardless.

This is not a ranking based on ambition. The first games was incredibly flawed. I would say it's the worst out of those on the list.

Yes, i do. I don't need to play that game to know how bad it is.
Like i said in my previous post, it feels like nothing but an expansion of AC3.

Like i said, i don't like the settings, the storyline, the cities, character or even the music. The lack of Jesper Kyd and Lorne Balfe ruined it completely.
Blackflaf is another nail in the coffin of this franchise.

Sounds like it was an unfortunate title on IGN's part, as they were interested in ranking the core titles from best to worst. Only thing I'd change is swapping 2 and Brotherhood, although I haven't played IV yet.

Next up: Top 5 Forzas.

AC for me is AC2 and Brotherhood, with AC1 always having a special place in my heart even if it wouldn't be appreciated much today by most. AC1 still had the best assassinations and the best ad-hoc or planned escapes. You could play it smarter and the game didn't lead you by the nuts for hours on end like the rest.

Couldnt even get very far into AC3. Once it wrested control from me to "teach" me how to fire my pistol I was done. Done with that entire style of game.

Is brotherhood really better than 2? I never bothered to play it but considering its like 6 bucks now I might give it a shot. Not anytime soon but I may eventually get around to it when I have some extra time.

The only instafail is AssRev's tower garbage. Tower defense garbage + worst setting in the series = rightfully at the bottom.

You mean the tower defense mini-game you only had to do one time? And the rest of the time it was optional? Such an overblown critique for something you could ignore 99% of the game

This is not a ranking based on ambition. The first games was incredibly flawed. I would say it's the worst out of those on the list.

They're all flawed. 2 was the game that introduced all of the dumb ubisoft open world filler shit that we love to trash so much. I guess because it was the first it gets a pass but I don't think it should.

I'd arrange it similarly.
  1. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
  2. Assassin's Creed II
  3. Assassin's Creed III
  4. Assassin's Creed
  5. Assassin's Creed: Revelations

Don't have Black Flag yet so can't say, but it seems like it's better than ACIII.

Dumb list. AC3 isn't better than AC:R imo. AC2 was the best, AC:B introduced those horrible, optional objectives and boring multiplayer.

1. AC2
2. AC:R
3. AC:B
4. AC3 / AC1

AC4:Black Flag seems promising, could be my new number 1.

The fact that AC4 got such good reviews after all these games means that either:

A. The game is really good

B. Game reviewers need to take a good hard look at what they are doing

hmm, I really liked the first game. I suppose it was pretty repetitive, but I hardly ever noticed. Since I skipped all of the tutorials, I was learning all of the different moves and controls on my own, so every mission was a new learning experience. :lol

Is brotherhood really better than 2? I never bothered to play it but considering its like 6 bucks now I might give it a shot. Not anytime soon but I may eventually get around to it when I have some extra time.
AC2 and Brotherhood make up a very large game, broken into two parts. I have a hard time separating the two since they compliment each other so well.

They're all flawed. 2 was the game that introduced all of the dumb ubisoft open world filler shit that we love to trash so much. I guess because it was the first it gets a pass but I don't think it should.

Sure all of them are flawed, but AC1 had nothing fun in it except for the main missions. The stuff you had to do in between those was mind numbing and was repeated over and over again. While AC3 took way too long to get going at least it did not follow that horrible design.

Also now I am questioning myself why I am even arguing about this. I already decided that I am one with this series unless they do some dramatic changes like do secondary stuff that's actually fun and add a competent combat system. Looking at AC4 that will probably never happen.

Pfft...

1. Assassin's Creed II
2. Assassin's Creed 3
3. Assassin's Creed Revelations
4. Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
5. Assassin's Creed

Isn't there a lot more then 6? A bunch on mobile and on the DS / Vita too.

And the fact that ACIII is in the list kinda makes me not take it serious.

Nobody seems to have a Vita at IGN.

Is not reading the articles linked in OPs still a bannable offense? It's right at the top, too:

Special note: There are a lot of very cool Assassin's Creed spin-offs and handheld releases, but we decided to just focus on the core console & PC Assassin's Creed experiences. Bloodlines on the PSP and Liberation on the PS Vita were strong candidates for inclusion since they look and feel like Assassin's Creed, but they also look and feel like side stories. After much deliberation we decided to not include them, as it simply isn't a fair comparison to stack them up against the core console titles that had much bigger budgets and appeared on more powerful hardware.

It's something like this...
1. AC
2. AC2
3. AC3
4. AC:B
5. AC:R

I have a feeling that AC4 might be able to squeeze itself at 3rd.

II and Bro were my favorite. Good to see ACIV is around there. Also get that vibe from members here that it's one of the better installments.

Revelations might be up there too but I was pretty AC burnt out by the time I got to it and never finished it.

Looking forward to AC(PS)4.

I hope IGN does a Top 3 Uncharted games list next.

Something about reverse ordering of lists really does my head in. Anyway the only Ass creed i've played is brotherhood and it was great.

The 6 best? Isn't that like, basically all of them?

It's an ordered list. They didn't choose 6 out of a larger pool.

This has to be a joke.

First post nails it. Why the heck would they call it best six. I guess they count the handheld versions, but still. Should be called 'Ranking the Assassin's Creeds'

Also, I'm surprised by the all the AC: Revelations love. I effing hated that game. I blitzed through the entire series (except for AC3, which I am half way through), and Rev was by far the worst. AC1 gets a bit of a pass since it was the first one, but the first time I started Rev I was like 'wtf'. The character models looked completely different (downgrade to me), the animations were 100 times more glitchy, the story was crap and just an excuse to extend out the Ezio storyline, they added even more redundant crap that felt nothing like an AC game (what is with the tower-defense style missions?), and overall I felt like I was just hoping that every mission was the last one.

I said I was surprised it wasn't on anyones list meaning I'm referring to the posters in this thread, not the IGN list, or I would have said I'm surprised it wasn't on IGNs list. But thanks

I have not played 4 but I think mine would be

1) AC3
2) AC:R
3)AC2
4)AC:B
5) AC

I think even though 3 and Revelations get a lot of hate, Brotherhood was AC2 in a different city and was disappointing, I liked AC1 at the time but obviously all the others have beat it game-play wise and all the others are great.

Hello! I wrote this. It isn't the best 6 AC games. It is a ranking of the 6 core AC games. Please click on a link before you post hate about it :)

Heh. I guess "Ranking the franchise" is a too much complex concept to understand, Justin. :(

Granted I've only played 1, 2, and BH, but I liked AC1 the best.

AC2 definitely has more game to it but AC1 was more grounded.

still, it is a bit disappointing because many of the side stuff (while a bit dubious in quality) tend to be quite unique and interesting in there own way.

The sidescrolling ds game felt a bit like old prince of persia, and the psp game while heavily flawed is the only game in the series with somewhat competent boss fights.

It just feels kinda pointless to rank just the core games of one of the most iterative game series around.

It's like ranking your top 5 madden games or something.

Black Flag above Brotherhood? Interesting, I might have to check out Black Flag then. I loved Brotherhood. And glad to see II on top, another fantastic game. None of the games other than II and Brotherhood have really stuck with me.
