Exactly, summed up my feelings nicely.I think both consoles will hit their stride.
Then again, I think XBox One is doing just fine, too, just not as well as PS4 is.
2015 will be a good year for our hobby

I bought a PS4 last august and it is really a nice console, however.. My main problem is the significant overlap it has with PC: literary every single 3rd party or Indie game I would like to play on a PS4 I already played it on my PC, granted this is my particular situation but still, the whole IndieStation 4 is not doing it for me because it already exist in a superior form, its called Steam.
I think this is where the Phill Spencer strategy of owning and developing IPs Nintendo style could paid off in the future. I bought consoles for games and so far the xbone and wii-u are giving the PS4 a run for its money IMO.
I don't think MS its going to outsell Sony this gen... ever, but it will remain as a strong competitor for sure, and that is good for everybody.
As an xbox owner i am of two minds...i like microsoft being on the defensive because despite my love for the company they are terrible when they are winning
On the other hand i hope they don't fall too far behind, because Microsoft may decide to either divest of xbox or pull back on the spending on that side
Words like "could" and "hit stride" are so wish washy and vague that it could practically mean anything.
Is Xbox One going to do better next year than 2014? Almost assuredly so, consoles do not hit sales peak during their first year, that rarely happens, due to production, pricing, software line up etc.
As for any sort of idea that they may catch up to PS4 WW, that is pure fantasy, the likes of only the most harden Xbox fans dream of. Its not a realistic scenario
The current free game bundles don't come with kinect.

Why do people keep saying this when nobody is suggesting it and it's not within the context of the article?

I was kinda disappointed with MS's purchase of Mojang. It just feels like Kinect all over again. By that I mean, rather than focus on the core, they keep chasing the golden goose.
Are you trying to police what i can and cannot say here?

I'm IGN's Features Editor - I worked with Colin on this piece. The decision to include data from the IGN-commissioned survey was made very very late in the process, and it wasn't a part of the initial drafts.
Originally, the paragraph before, about MS looking at its sales in a vacuum, was followed immediately by "the free market is a funny thing" - the bit about IGN's polling data wasn't there. I have the Word Doc - I assure you, this is the case.
This is a piece largely intended to examine the Xbox One's first ~year of sales, compared to the Xbox 360's. And how its performance is perceived to be worse than it actually is, because it has to stand alongside the insanely successful PS4.
But please, tell me more about how it was written around this polling data.
I don't see anything big for MS in 2015 outside of holidays, not sure how they will be hitting their stride if thats their plan.

^ if thats their general attitude, i don't think 2015 will be much different than the current status quo.
also, there is a real threat of being overshadowed by Sony's games lineup for next year. Once the ball starts rolling one way there's chance of a big snowball effect. Not only does Sony have big exclusives coming early starting with Bloodborne and The Order 1886, and then likely Uncharted 4 for holidays, but they've got the in-between multiplats in their favor too.
When MS makes marketing deals with something like Dragon Age, but then the game performs better on PS4 anyways, its not helping MS. And then there will be PS favored games as well like Batman or Battlefield, and maybe Metal Gear (which is huge).
Couple that with some big indies coming in 2015, as well as a few F2P games for PS4 slated to release. The December event is likely to give them some momentum going into 2015 too.
MCC will give X1 a boost this year (not sure by how much), although with the void after that i'm not sure how MS gains momentum enough to "hit its stride."

I asked a question to understand where people are coming from.
Policing would have been trying to enforce something on you and clearly I'm not doing anything of the sort.
No, he's wondering where a comment like this came from because no one here said it would outsell the PS4. Nor did the article suggest that it would.
No, Microsoft's big problem is Sony's PlayStation 4. For as well as Xbox One is selling, PlayStation 4 consistently does better. In fact, its sales have been historically high since its release in late 2013. For nine consecutive months, PS4 has outsold Xbox One in the United States, sometimes by a small percentage, and other times by a big margin. Even Titanfall, Xbox One's anticipated tour de force, couldn't stop the PS4 from outselling it the month the game launched. Optically, everything is pointing in PS4's direction. Xbox One's seeming difficulty in keeping up with PS4 on a technical level isn't helping to change the optical problems in a more literal sense, either.
Who said it was going to outsell the PS4 here?

I think people take this PlayStation vs Xbox way too far, I think they both have their pros and cons. Yes the PlayStation does have better video hardware but the hardware also sounds like a jet engine compared to the Xbox one. On the other side of things they Xbox ones OS is far beyond better than what the PlayStation currently has not to mention that this sound for game chat from PlayStation is atrocious. I think it is too early to tell which system will be the better, even though the PlayStation has the current lead it's not completely unimaginable that the Xbox catches up eventually, if it has better first party games. Most people really can't tell the difference between 900 P and 1080 P anyhow. I just buy most of the games that I have on PS4 for that or multiplayer because all my friends have PS4s now. But for multiplatform single player games I may just get those on the Xbox one because I like but OS better at this point.
That and people buy videogame systems for games, not the OS.
Where did i claim that anyone said it would outsell the PS4? Did i quote anyone here who made that remark?
The piece clearly puts emphasis on Xbox One's competition with PS4:
Seems that mentioning this is topical, they claim its a "big problem" so what is the issue? Do you just not like that i even said it? Are you going to debate the point i made or what?
Edit:
Read.
Let's avoid a derail and just call it what it was, a throw away comment that had nothing to do with the article's point or anything someone said.
<-- What i basically said, thus agreeing with that part of the articleeven if PS4 is likely to continue enjoying a sales advantage moving forward.

Reminds me of that 'article' (cannot use enough quotaiton marks here) from Polygon. --Dear Sony, you're #1 but Microsoft is coming for you--
That's what you said, it's not in the article. No one here said it, so are you just trolling?
Who are the hardened xbox fans who's fantastical unrealistic dreams you are referring?

Lol wut!? what do you mean by core? People spend thousands of hours on Minecraft isn't that hard-core enough? It has also consistently being one of the most played xbox live games for a long time by now, They just reacting to the data.
If by core you mean fringe franchises they re doing Phantom Dust (doesn't get any weirder than that).
The title should be "Xbox One could hit its stride in fall 2015", because the first half of 2015 doesn't look that hot.
There is a huge power gap between the two, it isn't just about the resolution.
I'm sure Uncharted 4 and many other 1st party games will highlight the gap quite well moving forward.
Shhhh let him dreamlmao
When did those become exclusive?
Thats why I dont get why there are some threads with people dissatisfied that PS4 firmware updates aren't coming out as fast as X1. I figure because they probably dont have any urgency to do so. Its not like anyone is going to trade in their PS4 cuz it does'nt get updates in a timely manner. They already have their ace which is everlasting...... Game performance.
You of all people do not get to call anyone a troll. Lets make that very clear here.
That is a piece of the article, you did not read it properly since you claimed it isent, it mentions PS4 and word "sales" several times.
I really don't know how optimistic you can be about the Xbox One in 2015. PS4 had much weaker exclusives in 2014 and still blew the Xbox One and Wii U out of the water. What happens to the Xbox One in 2015 when the PS4 gets good exclusives? The PS4 might not just maintain its momentum, it might gain a bunch.
The problem with taking such an attitude is that I only ever turn on my ps4 to play games. Whenever I turn on my Xbox I can play games or do a number of other things that I like to do. I didn't buy either for the OS(though the TV thing really enticed me towards the Xbox) but I sure helps me enjoy them.

I can't really answer the definition of core without ruffling some feathers...as everyone has their own interpretation. I have no issue with Minecraft as a game, or it's popularity. What concerns me is Minecraft and various iterations dominating the console in the years to come, and Microsoft chasing the Minecraft money, whilst letting the quality output wittle away.
Essentially, I don't want to see Minecraft become the 360's Kinect all over again.
EDIT: People also spend thousands of dollars / hours on cheap puzzle games or simple tap / swipe dexterity games on the mobile platform....yet that doesn't make them any more desirable to me.
Their anti-consumer stance at the beginning of the generation meant that I would never buy an Xbox One. It's that simple. They are only in reverse because they have to.
My PS4 and Wii U will do me just fine.
