This is much better than those pretentious and idiotic Mac ads. Those commercials are much too aggressive and fairly pathetic in my eyes.
How is this better if it's a reactionary ad aping Apple's theme?

so apple really won if microsoft has to create a whole ad campaign as a response to their ads, right?

keep it up, apple.

That was cute. Much better than the Seinfeld ones. Now they need to make a whole advertising campaign around Beard Guy and Fish Guy.

This is a response to MS's meandering public opinion much more than an attack on the apple front.

i like it. it takes the apple chop adds and runs with it, attempts to turn a perceived weakness into a strength without trying to take any potshots at anyone else. very positive, and very effective

I don't get the people thinking they need to sell Vista. Everyone uses Windows. They know what to expect. That's not the kind of ad Microsoft can do. They're sort of in a tough spot in terms of how to market their products.
This is what I'm thinking. This just brings up the question of why the fuck are they advertising at all, now. Before, it was silly commercials. Now they're directly trying to compete with something they're blowing out of the water.

Well they do get to the point.....but I still like the Seinfeld ones better. More entertaining.

Alternative OS's have been on the rise for quite some time now, and Microsoft should be concerned, because there are better OS's out there right now, more and more people will clue into that.

Microsoft might be "winning" in the sense that they have the most market share, but what really matters is whether or not they are set out to maintain it.

Was really addressing that PCs are dorks in suits and Mac users are smug hipsters really the most pressing concern for Microsoft? From what I understood, not a lot of people sympathized more with Justin Long's character anyway.

To me it seems that the issue from the Apple ads that they needed to address was that Vista sucks and people hate it, regardless if that is true or not.

The fact that those ad's seem to have really gotten under windows users skin despite starting some time ago seems proof to me that they were effective.

yeah, they were effective in me not wanting to buy a mac.

Cute ad. Doesn't feel like Microsoft at all (good thing?)

But anyway, I'd already made up my mind in this PC vs. Apple war a long time ago. I'm a PC too.

I can build a kickass PC for much much less then a similarly specced Mac. it's pretty much no contest.

I'm not sure what they're trying to accomplish. Do they want to keep their current customers or attract new ones?

windows.com has a bunch of "I'm a PC" stuff on it now. You can upload photos and videos on to it. So you can tell the whole world that "I'm a PC and I masturbate."

Exactly, the OSs' respective personae in the Apple ads haven't really worked in their favor, highlighting the market's dissatisfaction with Vista has. Yet MS is addressing the former and not the latter.

You're not the target for MAC ads. Cool and smart people are.

Yea. I dig the ads.

It's odd to look at the tech sites and hear all the Vista bashing....Then look at your Google Analytics stats and see Vista gain a percentage point every 30 days (about 10 million people?)

Nothing against Apple at all, but all the talk and internet banter does nothing to change the fact that they have a tiny fraction of the market, and although they are experiencing growth, it's very very slow growth.

I think Microsoft is the scourge of the computer industry, and I thought their first two ads were completely laughable, but this one.. not so bad, pretty good actually..

As a response to Apple's ads that is. This say and does nothing to sell M$ products, and with Vista performing like it is surely that's what they should be focusing on?

That said, I'd love to see Apple make ads like the legendary Guiness "Surfer", even if they didn't sell anything in particular:

Such a good ad..

The whole anti Vista thing drives me. It is all perception and zero reality.
I don't have anything major against Vista, but I personally have had a really bad experience with it (SP1 version). That experience wasn't, and it kept locking up on my machine and my friend's machine. I've heard that it's support for older hardware (this hardware is about 5 years old) isn't too great, so it could be that. Also, even when it does work, it seems slower than XP. I like the stye over XP though, which is why I have XP with Vista Transformation Pack installed.

These are really good.

Phase 3 should be set on a white background with Bill Gates punching the fuck out of that Mac loser.

Very nice

Now this is a good move, it's perfect because it doesn't feel manipulative since most people already sort of have a "aren't pc's used for pretty much anything?" feeling and if they pump enough money into showing the ads in enough places to make em part of mainstream culture, Apple's ads lose all their power cause they just don't feel credible any more.

Not really. Apple's "Get a Mac" commercials don't really mention marketshare - they talk about other things like viruses, bloatware, Macs being easier to use, etc. Saying that a lot of people use PC's doesn't really hurt the credibility of Apple's ads.

Assuming makes an ass outta you and me. My computer is not slow because of me not taking care of it. Its not my fault the OS is built crappy and is proned to having viruses. Its not my fault its not the easiest thing to use.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but it is prolly is your fault that it's running slow.

Can't believe people also don't understand or are confused by this AD. Give me a break, what are you? 4 years old?:lol

This is the kinda shit Apple does, it's not a bad comercial, but it's just nothing that you wouldn't expect. People that complained about the Seinfeld stuff should like this.
