I've decided to build a ps3 launch shelter out of my ps2 backlog. There should be enough to build i nice little place to hide until maybe next february. If I see iwata's shadow i'll wait till april. After that I'll come out and see what the software list is and go from there. I'll have one, but I'll wait as long as I can.
 
Hey what the hell is Team Ico doing? They had Ico close to PS2 launch right, or was it around a year after?



They better show up at the Playstation Meeting or TGS or else....

I'd just be fearful of it being another UMD trick. Centering the PS3 around Blu-Ray really splits its chances 50/50.

It's possible, but just as the UMD is important to the *games* on the PSP, Blu-Ray should serve well for developers that need an increasing amount of space to fill out the details of their games.

It came out in late 2001 (a year after the PS2 release), but it was in development for 3 years in total as it started on the PS2. SoTC also took 3 years to complete. They take their time with releases even though Ueda admits he wishes that they could be faster.

But there's still the chance that Blu-Ray fails, and Sony'll've driven up the price like crazy for pretty much no reason (in consumers' eyes). I think Microsoft's got the right idea at the moment. We're about a generation away from set-top boxes. It feels like Sony's trying to leap ahead. It makes me feel nervous about their chances.
 
99% not interested. The only announced game I'd get is Heavenly Sword. I also have a huge backlog, including games I don't even own yet, that will keep me happy for the next two plus years. If I want flashy visuals, I'll buy another X360 game (a system I probably shouldn't have bought to begin with). Not that they care, but Sony is going to have to try a lot harder to win me over.
 
Christopher, I'm totally coming to your party and bringing my siblings as well. I have 2 PS3s and 2 Wiis reserved right now. I'll be coming from the 360 party though if they ever get some ice in their punch. I hate warm punch.
 
I'll get it on launch no matter the price.

Sony has proven itself twice in a row as my main console and I follow wherever Final Fantasy (actual main titles) goes.

Still getting psyched for Wii though.

I offered to contribute $20 to a fund of $200 to make up the difference between the primo PS3 and how much you were willing to pay for one.

But I think based on your trolling, you'd be happier spending $200 to continue complaining about the PS3.

I'm there at launch. #14 on my store's preorder list.

Although I've seen nothing particularly interesting, I want to test its mettle as a bluray player, and it'll have some good games soon enough


I've wasted enough money at launch on other consoles (CD32 :shudder:) so why not?

$599 version, Resistance, Ridge Racer 7, Warhawk or Lair, plus a couple of BD movies. :)

I'll skip the launch if they only release the matte black PS3. :(

Games, most likely, but will depend on the developer/publisher. If they pull a PSP, then most may be playable.

Movies, not a chance in hell. USA, Europe and Japan are in different movie regions.
(Edit: DVD movies, not a chance in hell; BRD movies will work)

Japanese PS3 itself (dashboard, UI and such) will have English support, just like the PSP (or so I hear).

I think USA and Japan are in the same Blu-ray region. So, actually, movies might be the one thing to be guaranteed to comprehensively work between US and Japanese PS3s. So far I'd only bet on Sony's own games as being region-free.

Edit: Yup, for Blu-Ray movies, North America, South America, East Asia (except for China) are officially in the same region, so that'll work.

DVDs will at least still be region locked.
 
$599 version likely, but could easily go for the $499

Resistance, Warhawk, & Ridge Racer as well

Within a few months, hopefully Lair, Assassins' Creed, Motorstorm, & Heavenly Sword will be available.

Have to see what the other 3rd party titles are to see how they work out (Stranglehold, COD 3, Rainbow Six, NFS: Carbon, etc).

Hopefully we'll find out more about Ridge next month. All I want confirmed is multiple drift types and i'm in.
