I'm starting to bald and it's bringing me down

You're 30. Be glad you''ve lived long enough to go bald. I know plenty of bald black brothers from the hood but their baldness is due to their scalps rotting off at an early age due to gun violence. Get a brown marker if it bothers you that much.

Well that escalated quite a bit.

Haha what is this?

Friend in high school started going bald at 16, and had the bald spot at 20, he just shaved that shit off until he got married and let it grow back. You'll be okay...

I started balding at 22, both receding and male pattern. What you have really looks like nothing. Might not be nothing to you, but I really wouldn't start to fret unless you really think it affects your hair style down the road.

Personally, I embraced the bald bearded life early and never looked back. It works for me!

Don't feel too bad. I'm 44, and I have a full, luxurious head of dark brown hair. Most men tend to go bald to some degree though.

What in the world.

Genius trolling or lack of self awareness or both?

That's a good read thanks. May have convinced me to try Procepia again. I got a prescription 2 years ago but never ended up taking it after hearing some horror stories about sexual disfunction.

OP I've been going bald for a few years now. At first it really does a number on your confidence but eventually you stop caring. I'm almost at the point of shaving it all but gonna try procepia and if that doesn't work then fuck it, going bald and growing a beard.

I'm surprised you just noticed at 30. It was probably visible for years.

I first noticed my thinning when I was 23. I'm 31 now and it's still not really that noticeable. My GF has asked a few times if she thinks I'll ever go bald, so I guess the current thinning isn't even noticeable to a person not really looking for it.

also taking a selfie with a cell phone tends to make it worse than it is IMO. The weird angle and if you use flash it makes it look worse.

but balding is a sign of aging and you will die soon and never exist again.

Going bald myself at 31. It still grows but it's noticeably thinner right in the middle. I'm losing my hairline as well.

My black brothers with glorious hairlines make fun of me after every haircut :(

Thanks for the tip, OP. I used my phone to check the top of my head. Everything's fine.

My hair's been slowly receding, but it's really not that bad.

I like the way I look bald, so when the time comes, I'll be ready.

Jeze... 30? I'm only 23 and hair has become thin as fuck over the last few years.
My brother, who's a year younger has it even worse :(

Not sure if i should try some anti-baldness products, or just embrace it. I already have a sick beard, so I think i could pull it off.

Get on fin/proscar if you're that worried, I opted out of that because I didn't like the idea of having to take that shit for the rest of my life.

My hairline has been slowly receding and the top has been thinning since I was 16, you starting at 30 is some lucky shit. I'm 25 now, and if I let my hair grow past the #3 the thinning becomes beyond obvious but I've always kept it short even pre-baldness.

None of my girlfriends have cared for it, maybe I've just been lucky.

Then again, I didn't meet them on OK Cupid/Tinder where it sounds like you'd get filtered for showing inferior balding genetics.

Gotta embrace that shit like Patrick Stewart bro:

I started losing mine in my early twenties, and possibly didn't help things with how worried/anxious I would get with OCD and anxiety.

I still have a decent amount of hair, but the top has thinned quite a bit in the damned horseshoe pattern. It's pretty noticeable.

I'm not even thirty yet and it makes me sad. I've always been a hairy guy and can grow a beard without issue, plus practically had a beard in grade 9. But I'm losing it on my head.

My hair has been thinning since I was like 15 and now at 30 it's super thin at the top but surprisingly still no bald spots. That said, I just shave it very short.

Proscar + rogaine, brah. It's your only hope. If you love your hair that much you'll do it.

I found this post on reddit to be both full of good information + inspirational for how much hair you can actually get back.. the dude who wrote this post is basically no longer balding.

Disclaimer: not everyone is going to get the results he got

Thread is freaking scary. Asked sister to check for bald spot. 24 and still in the green zone. Phew.

Not in your position OP but agree with those saying short/no hair can be a fine style. Shaving is an option.

Im going bald in the front. I keep my head shaved (1/4") but you can still tell. Its no big deal. If it gets worse I'll just shave that shit bald...with a razor. I'll still look dope.

edit- I wear a beard and keep it at 1/2".

  1. Shave it
  2. Grow a beard
  3. Work out/be in shape

Enjoy your life.

This is pretty much me I joined the gym a couple months ago and have lost 2 stone as well as building my arms and shaping my chest which is less flabby now.

As soon as my stomach is flat which I think will be 3-4 months away and I'm happy with my body I'm shaving my head and I can't wait.

Every time I look in the mirror to admire my weight loss I'm reminded why I'm doing it.

As with everything else you can't control, embrace it.

Also, men go bald. It happens.. a lot. I know several people who started going bald in highscool.

Also, Gray GAF here. I used to panic about having all these grays, but since I stopped dyeing it, I've felt a lot better... Just DO IT man.. Just love it and live it MAN.

Don't feel too bad. I've had thin hair since I was in high school, and it's only gotten thinner since then. Keep what's there neat and tidy on the sides (evenly shaved or trimmed close to the scalp, I would advise against the shaggy-bald look) and don't fuss with the top too much and no one will care.

Why haven't we cured this yet

How much better would the world be if all men had luxurious hair for their entire lives

Yep. Plunged me into depression and paranoia about my health I still haven't properly got out of yet
Same situation here. I act like it's not something of importance but I'm losing a substancial amount of hair on the top back of my head and slowly losing some from that spot to the entire remaining top of my head up to the front on top of my forehead. I like my hair short but that only accentuates the fact. I'm at a loss as to what to do. I'm only 27 turning 28 on March next year.

That's not even bad man. But if it makes you feel bad, shave it off, Walk with confidence. Put a bit of muscle on you. You'll be fine.

Are you sure you're going bald? Isn't that just a "hair whorl"? Every single male in my lectures has that same sort of pattern at the back.

Isnt the technology for treating baldness getting better and better? Im sure by the time you reach 40 there'd be a proper treatment.

Same for the past 10 months.

Started massively diffuse thinning 10 months ago, a few weeks after a stressful moment (my cat of 16 years died on Xmas eve).

Since then I've been diffuse thinning all over my head. Including sides and back. The hair grows back but the strands are thinner.

I've been on propecia/fin for over 7 months now and so far it's done nothing apart from giving me erectyle dysfunction.

I have a small face/head and big nose. So simply look better with thick hair and the hair I have now. Its 2015 and we still can't properly fix baldness. Its a joke :(

Edit: 25 btw

I work in a med school and a top hair expert from New York came by and lectured on a new form of this (currently being tested in animals):
http://baumanmedical.com/hair-restoration-options/prp-platelet-rich-plasma-acell-ecms/

Success rate is extremely impressive and he expects it to hit the market in 5 years.
He claimed it will successfully regrow hair, not just keep the baldness at bay. I'm hoping/praying that's the case. For now your best best to keep it at bay would be propecia (finasteride)/rogaine.

So don't despair, OP. Just have confidence.
