I'm thinking of buying a 3DS

I know there's very little software available, but I got money on my birthday, and I feel like I should spend it. Looking at software, I'm only really kind of sort of interested in that Cartoon Network Smash Bros. clone, and a bunch of a GB games on the eShop (Donkey Kong 94, and Super Mario Land, broski).

I'm not really interested in fighters, so that rules out Blazblue, Street Fighter, and Dead or Alive. I hate Zelda games, so don't bother recommending me that. I played that Pilotwings, and Submarine game and didn't think any were good. I like Ridge Racer decently, but I've heard 3D isn't that good, and Resident Evil Mercs looks dull.

But am I missing anything else? Should I wait for a revision or something?

Games I know I want for 3DS include Megaman Legends 3 (may or may not actually be made), Medabots 3D (will likely never be in English), and uh... that's kind of it at the moment. I guess I might be interested in Mario again once the 3DS one comes out, but I prefer the 2D platformers. I'd probably pick up Mario Kart as well.

from what you're saying it sounds like you definitely shouldn't get a 3DS

but, uh, other than that Dream Trigger is the one 3DS game I find pretty decent

You've ruled out most of the good 3DS software in a single paragraph. That is, if you want to base your purchase off what is actually available at the moment.

From what your saying, I would suggest waiting for a price drop. You would be spending a large amount of money for 2 weeks of entertainment.

Come on dude:

Come on!

Nintendo's first party titles pretty much always overshadow the rest- I think the same will be true with 3DS. If you're not interested in the Mario's and Zelda's, there's little point buying a 3DS at the moment. You're better off waiting (maybe until after Christmas) to see if anything pops up that really interests you. There's no point buying a system for one game, really.

Everything you say points to no.

You will buy the 3DS now, not play much, and then when some good games come out later this year, you will probably be jaded and not even play them.

Wait until some of the biggies some out later this year, pick it up then (maybe a bit cheaper than it is now), and have your first experience with the console be a good one.

Given your profile I don't think it's right for you at the moment. What matters is do you think the upcoming software appeals to you? Also, if you missed DSiWare there might be a lot for you there but otherwise I'd just sit on it and wait for some games you want/price drop/new colors etc.

You're in the same boat as I am, meaning we're not interested in anything that's out for it right now.

The difference is though I'm not thinking about buying one. Why would I? Judging from sales this thing will still be around when something meaningful comes out, and who knows maybe a price drop will be there too.

Though for me it looks like I'll have to wait until I get a Vita, because I don't see anything I want to play for the rest of this year.

Just wait, that's my advice.

Or you can wait and get a PSVita at the same price.

My avatar tells you I will be buying one of those.

But I kind of want a 3DS. But I'm thinking it might be the money in my wallet, and a craving for new tech talking.

That..has less games and won't be out for ages?

Sounds like your wallet is itching Takao. Wait for more games to surface. 3DS ain't going anywhere. and if the time comes and Vita comes out and has more games you want, well then..

If you really want it there is no reason not to get it. If you don't mind waiting till September for all the good games to start hitting the shelf, that is.

Also the Vita is going to have just as much of a game drought as the 3DS is, it's not some acceptation to the new hardware launch or a magical device that can spawn worthwhile games on a whim.

Nope. It'll get rebranded as 3DS Lite before they drop the price.

There is never going to be a 3DS lite.

Hold onto your birthday money. Just because you got a bit of cash doesn't mean you have to go out and spend it right away.

See what's coming out and what you want. Maybe you'll want a 3DS more later, or maybe you'll want a PS Vita. Who knows? Give it time.

Don't just throw your money at any system, portable or console, because you want to spend money.

"Should I get a 3DS? I hate every single game available for it"

Yes, of course you should.

What about Tom Clancy's Advance Wars? That's a great game.

Sounds like you shouldn't buy the system, for some smash bros clone and overpriced GB games.

Maybe you should wait a few months for a price drop and more software announcements that will make the choice much easier.

This kinda thing cracks me up, why are there so many people like this.

I mean, wallet itching, honestly, I just don't get it.

You lost me at Zelda, which as far as I'm concerned is the only real reason to own a 3DS at this point.

I just bought one a few days ago along with Ocarina of Time, with a bit of store credit. It's certainly not worth it at this point, but some of the upcoming games (Mario, Luigi's Mansions) look like a lot of fun.

The Gameboy stuff on the E-Shop is neat, but the good games are a bit overpriced.

I would wait until there are at-least 5 games that interest you. By then there might even be a redesign and 1 or 2 price drops.

That is what i will be doing with any new games system going forward. Early adopting is a risky business in it self.

You sound like the same position I'm in. I want one, but I'm waiting until it gets games I actually want. At this point, that's OoT and nothing else, so I'm holding off.

Good lord man, do not buy a 3DS right now if that is your opinion of the existing software lineup. That should be completely obvious.

I'd wait until TGS to get a better handle on where Japanese third parties are going on the system. But I don't think you gain anything in particular by buying a 3DS right now. and particularly if you're already dead-set on buying a Vita at launch.

Spending money just to spend it sounds stupid but who am I to tell you how to spend your money.

Just don't be like some of those other guys and start whining in posts about how you're going to sell it because there's no more new games to play and how you wasted your money, etc.

its your birthday money, you can spend it on whatever you want to make you feel happy, 250 for a 3DS, or you can spend 250 for a decent night

Ya, I sort of regret getting mine now. Don't get me wrong I'm absolutely loving replaying OoT but there isn't really any games coming out until winter. Probably should have just waited in case there was a price drop.

Definitely wait to buy it. I like all those games you mentioned, so the 3DS has been a nice purchase for me, but if there's not much out right now that you're interested in, then you are better off waiting.

(Wait at least another year)

I tried to wait too ( for a different color ) but I got it last week with OoT and I don't regret it.
It feels really great playing OoT again, and the 3D just blows my mind.

There are some little gems in the E-Shop too.

I'd personally wait till the Fall, when the Vita will (presumably) be releasing. At that point the 3DS should have a few really excellent titles, and if not, you can explore the option of getting a Vita.

The only reason to have a 3DS right now is for Ocarina of Time. Well, actually it is enough a good reason. Wonderful piece of software and 3D effect in that game is worth the purchase.
