Guys if you watch the extras, the directors cut is BS, Ridley never had anything to do with the directorss cut. THE FINAL CUT was supervised, and done cut by him. Am I wrong??????

When I saw this movie at 18y I thought it was garbage!!!!
When I watched it again at 32, I thought it was a masterpiece!
I have it on HD DVD. One of the top ten greatest movies of all time, and the #1 Sci-Fi movie of all time.

It aged like wine.

you are right that scott didn't do the "directors cut" but that doesn't change the the final cut is awful awful with bad color changes and pointless added scenes. scott not doing anything worth watching since blade runner might also have something to do with DC being great and the FC being lackluster.

But at least the The Thing has a tangible feeling of actually being there in the room with the actors, which is more then you can say for most of todays CGI.

And this is a must read after you've seen BR.

But honestly, I feel like Avatar's story isn't something without substance. Avatar's story is a retelling of a story as old as human civilization. It will never be out of fashion.

Just the name of it is getting me excited. With Avatar's success, Ridley is gonna be jumping on the tech and we'll get another classic Sci-fi masterpiece.

Final Cut is where it's at, and one of my favorite films of all time. I NEED the blu-ray.

I really want to see Scott tackle Dune (again kind of, I guess), but that's probably never going to happen with how much he has in the works now.

It was panned in the 80's, much like 2001 was in the 60's.

Speed Racer will be considered a classic piece of film making in another 10 years.

The Thing is great but Blade Runner really is the pinnacle of physical effects. The Final Cut on blu-ray will blow your mind, the film is visually perfect.

Also, Rutger Hauer's speech at the end is one of the best moments in cinema history. I'm just sayin'.

Yeah, its nicely done. They even fixed the sky on the dove scene (although I originally thought the clear blue sky was meant to be symbolic :O ).

I have the ultra special briefcase edition of the movie on blu-ray, and it's all kinds of extra bad-ass.

Blade Runner is my favorite movie of all time, even with all the different cuts considered. Final Cut is, IMO, the best of them all. So, so good.

I read the book before. I watched it first time when BBC screened it a few weeks ago. Thought it was slighty dull, plodding, confused sci-fi flick. I think most of the hype came from the setting resonating with the world at the time of release.

but at least I get what reviews mean when they describe games like Syndicate as a "Blade Runner type future".

i finally sat down and watched it for the first time time--i saw the final cut. first of all, it's beautifully shot and looks gorgeous. and i liked the movie, too. a lot even. but i think i'd appreciate it more if i had seen it when it first came out since it's clearly most a shitload of sci-fi movies that have been released since then.

Plus there's a couple things like changing effects (the adjusting iris in the opening shot, for example, plus re-shooting Zhora's death with Ford's son) that don't sit well with me and are treading into George Lucas territory.

A movie should be the movie it was released as, flaws and all.

I guess some argue that often the movie can be released in a form not intended by the director, but that's the nature of the film business. I appreciate all the changes normally, though. I like seeing things again in slightly different light, so long as we have access to the original content as well should we choose.
