Yep. You could throw Wave Race in there too, the glory days.

Total War tends to lead the way when it comes to strategy game visuals:

The game isn't actually that sharp but I think this competes with REMake for most impressive generational jump.

Not that the PS1 couldn't do 3D cities like Driver 1 and 2 though. But the within series difference is crazy.

Not having to render any polygons except the characters themselves + massive power upgrade from the previous gen = you win the thread. I doubt this can be topped.

I'd say the jump from MGS1 to MGS2 is more impressive, both on a visual and technical level since RE1 PS1 and RE1 Remake on GCN both used pre-rendered backgrounds whereas MGS1 and MGS2 were fully 3D.

R&C Up Your Arsenal to Tools for Destruction is a pretty amazing leap. I was playing Up Your Arsenal remastered on the PS3 and when I started Tools for Destruction it was jaw dropping. It's even more impressive than the new R&C because they managed that kind of a leap without dropping the frame rate to 30fps

To be fair those are youtube screengrabs. I think if you looked at Tekken 7 running on a PC at high resolution the difference would be far more pronounced.

What's odd is that I saw video of GT sport and thought to myself "this doesn't really look like an improvement over the ps3". Side to side there's obviously a large difference.

Is that a symptom of seeing the graphics of other racing games this generation? Or something else? I had a similar sensation when I played tekken 4. I remember thinking tekken tag was basically photorealistic until I went back and played it.

I just think sometimes we remember games looking better than they really did. You'll often times see it when people say "This game looks like something from [insert past generation console]". It recently happened with a set of impressions of Mafia 3 that claimed it look like an early generation PS3 game.
