Sorry I tend to hate that kind of people, like that accursed Sakamoto that had the gall to pull interviews upon interviews making sure that we all knew how intent he was on destroying Metroid.
I really hate that kind of stuffs, I should avoid that kind of news in the future :lol

Try again, I played through LP2 with three friends and all four of us thought it was crap

(and Monster Hunter owns)

I actually bought two copies of the game to play in co-op with my brother, and it was still an awful game.

And the comparisons with Monster Hunter are kind of offensive, IMO. The only thing they have in common is that both can be played with 3 friends.

How about from the standpoint of people who actually liked Lost Planet, and wanted a sequel that continued the franchise in the same way, building on the strengths without making it something else completely?

Fair enough, though most people didn't have that opportunity and didn't see that side of the game. But thanks for speaking on behalf of the Lost Planet community.

Again, my original post in this thread did mention it was a somewhat misguided direction for a lot of people. Duck, I can completely agree with you on the fact many folks wanted a continuation of the original. Indeed, if that HAD happened, perhaps my gripe of levels lacking a certain grandeuer would have been fixed with a more concrete direction. As it stands, and no matter what side of the coin you're on, there isn't really anything like ol' Lost Planet 2...it's something I very much appreciate the game for. Is there a laundry list of things that should have been done better? You betcha.

Well, I remember feeling the first ones demo was like a 3D contra. I did not like the T-Eng, that you had to be "scared" of the snow. It was such a cool world to explore, so it was to bad that the "hook" was that it was too cold.

I also remember feeling that the Mech implantation was like the Mechs in Megaman X for SNES. Overall, I really liked the demo, but I thought it was to bad that the presentation was so hacked, now that they had used that famous Korean toyboy. It could have been really big.


Right now I would rather see a new Dino Crisis. I like the idea of Dinosaur astronauts, but they don't have to be undead!

It'd be nice to hear why you found it crap. If it was the level progression and shared respawn point stock, the few and far between saves, the lack of drop-in co-op, the slot machine unlock mechanism etc., etc. then yeah, it's certainly no industry leader.

The opinion entitlement is painfully blatant, it's fine to discuss what the game wasn't...but it's always a shame seeing these threads with Lost Planet 2 the whipping boy yet again without acknowledging there was indeed some gold within the mud, very much worth finding.

That's all I'll say on it. Llyranor called it his co-op game of the year, which was interesting.

Just horrible to see the team get denounced for the admirable misfire. Lot of interesting ideas within.
 
That's kind of a shitty thing to say. Lost Planet 1 was a really good game, but it wasn't really anything more than a standard third-person shooter and was only really elevated by (and wouldn't be worth a second glance without) the addition of Japanese action game mechanics. Lost Planet 2 was much more expansive and actually had a real identity of its own; of all the complaints you could levy against it, the idea that the game's creators didn't have a lot of love and care for the project is completely absurd. If anything, you could make a stronger argument that they liked it so much that they either didn't bother to, or ignored the results of, bringing in playtesters representative of the general public to see how the game's design would go over.
 
seriously the only upside to the situation I see here is that if he was at Nintendo we would never have gotten Metroid other M...
Thinking about it he might be onto something.
Although I don't see how the multiplayer aspect of LP2 was such a big problem when it was quite well received with RE5...
Maybe I need to play both more than 5 min :lol

Never played Lost Planet 1.

Got 200/1000 in Lost Planet 2 and finished it at Normal once (CoOp) but it's really not that much fun of a game.
Still, it's not bad either.
But i DON'T want a sequel.

Come now, members of a hive mind don't generally discuss in any detail their issues with a particular title. I'd like to think I was referring to a more flexible collective in the bandwagon. :lol

Considering also the storm of entertainment LP2 deployed within, I'd say it was already up against the commercial rocks, so folks would have found it much easier to cast aside after limited exposure.

Maybe this sounds all defense-force-y, and it is a sort of defense of the game's artistic dynamism - the main reason I love the franchise, and especially the second game...the most interesting cumulative colour palette in a long time - but it'd be wrong to suggest I'm in denial of the game's shortcomings.

It was a solid 7 - 8, certainly not worth the wholesale slamming that goes around.
 
Lost Planet 2 really sounded good in theory.

If only they diverted some time and resources away from making 200 emotes and instead focused on modernizing it with features like drop-in/drop-out co-op.

For the amount of LP1, Colonies, and LP2 I've played I'm a bit surprised at my own indifference for the franchise's future. I haven't played much LP2 post-patch, so at the very least this thread has inspired me to pop LP2 in today just to check out how the community has progressed.
 
Damn I was hoping they would continue in this direction. Lost Planet 2 still remains my GOTY and the only game I've put an absurd amount of time into.

This. It's amazing how the man can make himself look awful and piss everyone off after his big experiment in giving one of their higher profile franchises to a Western developer with internal oversight paid off in dividends and he's giving us the Mega Man Legends sequel we've always wanted.

From what I've played in the demo, I thought it was pretty good decent at a MH-style shooter. While I don't have much interest in LP2, I had a bit of fun with the demo and am a little surprised at how poorly it's regarded. It seemed like a game that some people would enjoy.

I can see how fans of the first game were disappointed with the direction, though, but for what it is it seemed decent enough.

pfft he's executive producer on dmc too, he'll throw them under the bus if the game underperform (which it will by the look of it).
 
I think LP2 is a fantastic game. There's some real co-op in that game that you can't find anywhere else.

BUT, I do prefer the campaign style of the first.

Too many games nowadays play the same. The LP series sticks it out even if gamers cry about it. It really is a gamer's game, and while not a big enough audience to surely keep the franchise going, I hope it, for the sake of gamers, keeps going.

I'm glad we have another vocal dev. I mean, gamers themselves are vocal trolls.

So he only sees awful games when he's around competitors, but he doesn't see the awful games at his studio.

Oh well, I guess it all comes down to tastes, I personally enjoyed LP2's co-op, but it only lasted a few hours and the replay value was nowhere to be found, so I sold my copy just two days after buying it. Pretty much the first time I do that in many years...

Well, they still make "too Japanese" games. Okamiden, Basara. Why not bring back Onimusha, which was a considerably more popular franchise than those 2 games.
 
To be fair to whoever directed LP2, how could they ever love that IP? If it were me, I would take anti-depressants to get me through the development process.

Well, Okami will be dead after Okamiden bombs, and Basara isn't under Inafking's control. Onimusha is one of those series that Inafune has retroactively claimed is his, so I wouldn't hope for much now that he's down on Japan.
