I can see if Sony were to ban people from multiplayer due to offensive actions, but banning people from their purchases or subscribed services (other than MP) is near criminal imo.
I also believe bannings should be handled very carefully and only as an action of last resort after multiple attempts at correcting the problem with the consumer. Far far too many online services treat bannings with little care and will punish for the tiniest of infraction. Look at how EA will ban users from content for the smallest of issues, from respectfully disagreeing with a mod or even being on the receiving end of a trolls post.
Permanent bannings should be treated like the online equivalent of the Death Penalty and only used in the most extreme of cases, AND NEVER should it revoke a users access to thier content - Unless the company will fully refund said purchases. If Sony wants to secure their place in the "Digital Future" they need to revoke policies that could be seen as anti-consumer and create safety nets to protect their consumers. Any other action would give many pause when it came to investments made in Sony's online stores and create a environment of distrust; Neither are helpful to Sony's end goal. Creating checks and balances to protect your customers is never a bad decision to make.
