Yesterday I was reading
an Ars report about India's massive public defecation crisis
(over 600m people shit in public even if there are toilets available) and how it has a direct effect on children. Due to the bacteria and parasites surrounding them, Indian children are smaller and less developed than the children in poorer African countries.
I wonder if this in-turn leads to behavioural changes? If you're surrounded by constant physical filth, could it lead to a less empathetic society where people dismiss rape as a 'social' issue of low importance?
